Thanks to advanced western medicines and our high standards of living, old people will live to much higher ages. Canada has one of the highest life expectancy in the world (82). This means that in 10 years, most of those 50-54 age group people are going to retire and will use up resources for 2 decades until most die in their 80's. That is if we don't make more breakthroughs in medicine and the life expectancy grows even higher.
