Does Sup Forums think the super-wealthy ought to pay taxes?

In a newly released paper, researchers in Scandinavia and the United States use the Swiss and Panamanian leaks to show that global tax evasion is likely much more prevalent than previously thought. Their estimates indicate that the top 0.01 percent of the wealth distribution own about half of all offshore assets and may be hiding roughly a quarter of their wealth offshore.

Zucman has previously estimated that the equivalent of about 10 percent of global gross domestic product is hidden in tax havens. These countries, which often have laws that ensure the secrecy of offshore accounts, include Singapore, Hong Kong, Luxembourg, the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, and, of course, Switzerland — which alone manages an estimated 40 percent of the world’s offshore wealth.

Their estimates show that the wealthiest people are getting away with paying far less than their fair share. While about 3 percent of personal taxes are evaded in Scandinavia overall, households with more than $40 million in net wealth — or the top 0.01 percent of the wealth distribution — evade about 30 percent of their personal tax burden, they found. They caution that this figure might be much higher in other countries where the rule of law is weaker.

The chart below, from the paper, shows that, compared with all recorded wealth, the wealth hidden in HSBC's Swiss accounts — or revealed by the kind of amnesty programs that allow people to declare earnings they have previously hidden offshore — tends to belong to those at the upper end of the wealth distribution.

TAXATION IS THEFT

So I'm going to keep voting for Republicans: the party that lightens the burden on the 1% while fucking the shit out of middle-class me.

Moral of the story: People find a way to breathe free air. We might as well reduce taxes so that their holdings are here, where banks will build here instead of there

There's an easy solution to this; the mistake they made was consolidating their wealth into literally 25-35 ultra wealthy lineages. They are powerful in an economic sense but tucking frail in a physical sense. There are people in this thread who know what must be done.

I used to be a conservacuck. spewing the same old "it's their money though!!!" lines. then I saw the light. I saw the rich don't pay anywhere near their fair share. they use their massive amounts of cash to influence global politics and force things like acceptance of refugees. you can't fight against (((them))) if you want to let them keep their greatest tool. they use money to influence degeneracy around the world.

What makes you think reducing their taxes would prevent them from sending them to places where the tax is 0? That would just further lessen their contributions to the societies they live in.

why should they pay?
why should anyone pay the salaries of thousands of politicians an shit
we should pay for services that we use
taxation is normalized theft
a vestigial societal scar of our times as slaves

>progressives use rich as a scapegoat for their regressive policies yet again

this

Why should your progeny receive masses of wealth that they haven't earned?

>Daddy's favourite Nathan Barley.

The rich can afford to pay more for lawyers in order to pay less for taxes. Adding complexity is welfare for lawyers.

Yeah but barring international cooperation on something like a progressive global tax on wealth it isn't going to happen because some countries, cities, etc. are going to continue being havens since it economically benefits them very much.

Aye,
The idea is your either part of that club or dream of being part of it so you
>dun care about muh rich elite.
That's the dream your fed. until you realise you are literally being shafted as it's rigged by class.

Because by owning the means of production you're also exposed to the risks associated with ownership, including losses in times of poor economic performance.

>Why should your progeny receive masses of wealth that they haven't earned?
Why shouldn't you be able to do what ever the fuck you want with the money you earned?

For the current crop there's little incentive because they've already set up these methods. If the tax rate was like 5% there would be much less incentive for the next generation to set up similar rackets. At some point just shilling for donations is going to be a better policy than trying to scalp the rich.

How would you cope with the corresponding loss of money in the short term though?

>In a newly released paper, researchers in Scandinavia and the United States use the Swiss and Panamanian leaks to show that global tax evasion is likely much more prevalent than previously thought.

Yeah, it's like every year there are more taxes and more complicated regulations for paying those taxes. Our tax code is over 80.000 pages full of holes that are being abused by army of lawyers and creative accountants whom rich people can afford. It's like if we make our tax system more simple they would stop doing that, hmmmmm makes me think.

You assume that the rich would willfully redesign protocol to prevent themselves from being able to hoard wealth. Any simplified taxes would just benefit them even further without them having to do expensive tax cheats.

CEOs have been ahead of the curve doing meme dollar salaries.

Then remove the cap on taxes paid into social security and lower the rates for the rest of us if you want it to be progressive.

>Any simplified taxes would just benefit them even further without them having to do expensive tax cheats.

A-are you retarded? If there is no way around about paying certain simple tax, you either pay it or go to jail for tax evasion.

meme dollar?

I guarantee the taxes would be simplified in a way that made their burden upon the wealthy no greater than what it was in the simultaneously more complex and easier to cheat earlier system. Wealthy people are not going to willingly accept a pay cut. If you assume 100% of white collar fraud will somehow magically be prosecuted because we simplified our tax code, you underestimate the cunning and willfulness of sociopaths.

executives often take the salary at a dollar because other compensations (stock options, etc) have a less confiscate tax rate.

taxation is theft

move to switzerland?

>but tucking frail in a physical sense.
Lol no. They have impregnable walls around them physical and virtual.

No one should pay taxes.

Problem is you can't find this kind of money head on. How will you tax someone with 1 dollar salary?

First you need to build a wall despite it first glance has nothing to do with wealth of rich.

No one should die by entropy says otherwise. You can't escape state and taxes same way you can't escape death (also you should not worship state same way you should not worship death).
