What is the difference between the left/right and liberal/conservative dichotomies? I'm curious how the distinctions are generally perceived (and by what groups) and what the actual difference between the two sets of memes is. What are the implications of the use of either of these sets of phrases in particular and do you think they are even relevant/useful in the modern political climate?

in terms of non-economic issues, terms left/right and liberal/conservative can be interchangeably used. left/liberal cause is nominally trying to transform the society into a more fair and equitable one as opposed to the current, oppressive society. on the other hand, right/conservative cause is trying to preserve the current way of life which is considered adequate and to prevent unnecessary adventurism the left/liberals are proposing.
