If you're out on the town at night on a social event, are you going to be carrying your gun? Likely not, in fact if guns were legal the odds of you being allowed into social events such as a pub/club or whatever, with a weapon, are very slim.
So the question really becomes, do you want to be attacked with men with guns, or with men with knives, and as horrible as the though of knives are, I'd pick knives over guns any day.
Look at something like the paris attacks and 10's are dead straight away, vs knife attack where most people were wounded but not critically, only a few people actually died.

I'm not one to say that making guns illegal makes them impossible to get, but the heavy sentences that go with gun possession in the UK makes them extremely expensive to get a hold of, because with that risk comes a hefty price tag, which does keep the guns mostly out of the hands of wannabe Muslim terrorists.

I actually can't justify the police not having guns, I think they should do. Again I'm not really anti-gun but I think that it's pretty common for pro gun people to boast the benefits of guns without fairly looking at the drawbacks.

I'm from Texas and I usually carry my Springfield Armory XD .45 with 13 round mag under my coat and my Ruger LCR .38 Special +P 5 Round Revolver and in my truck I have my Mini 14 with two 30 mags full of .223s. I live in outside of the city limits on 10 acres of land where I have my own outdoor shooting range I pretty much shoot everyday after work. I have a 30 yard target wall and a a 100 yard target wall for my rifle. I am not afraid of people with knives or guns as I've had guns pointed at me several times in my life home and abroad. I lived and worked in Nigeria, Angola, Trinidad etc, If someone jumped up at a function I was attending and even remotely looked as if they were going to harm me or anyone there. I wouldn't think twice of putting one in the head two in the chest before they good get the second syllable out of allah akbar or whatever the fuck they say. And most likely I would be a hero and the police and any witnesses would lie for me to make sure nothing happened to me legally.
