It would be pretty bad for the UK specifically because of how compact everything is relative to America, there aren't really any areas where you can set up a massive fracking site and have it operating and it no ruin the serenity of the place, where as in America there are a shit ton of baron areas where noone really gives a shit about and there aren't going to be protest groups from the nearest town coming and blocking the road. So in regards to aesthetics it isn't such a great option, but you also have to consider water pollution which, no matter what you hear is a problem, but again more so in the UK because of how close everything is to everything else. It's not just like you can pump water into the rocks and out pops the gas ready for collection, you have to use a wide range of chemicals including VOCs (volatile organic compounds) which should under no circumstances get into the water supply, but they absolutely do, because surprise surprise, that's what happens when you pump it into the water supply. Sink holes can be a problem but it depends what kind of rock you are working with. The UK has quite a diverse geology so it would vary from area to area.
It can provide good skilled employment and also lower skilled employment for the area that they operate in, which can be good for whatever area, but the negatives outweigh what it is really worth. I couldn't in good conscience do the job I was doing in America in a country that I actually care about.
