...

This guy seems alright.

...

Wouldn't all saints be great thinkers.

Saint Thomas takes the cake tho.

Chesterton is fucking incredible, everything he ever wrote was pure gold.

Not really, a lot of them had barely any education if they lived before the modern era unless they were nobles or clergy.

Saint Thomas Aquinas
Augustine of Hippo
Duns Scotus

what is your opinion on jeanna d'arc?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_More

She was a peasant girl, hardly an intellectual.

Her virtues lay elsewhere.

thanks, i ask because i never really knew which was the true history about her (and from hollywood obviously i dont believe anything)

Sir Thomas More (/mɔər/; 7 February 1478 – 6 July 1535), venerated by Roman Catholics as Saint Thomas More,[1][2] was an English lawyer, social philosopher, author, statesman and noted Renaissance humanist. He was also a councillor to Henry VIII, and Lord High Chancellor of England from October 1529 to 16 May 1532.[3] He also wrote Utopia, published in 1516, about the political system of an imaginary ideal island nation.

thanks

She was a courageous, pious woman who rallied France's hopes in a rather demoralizing time period.

And she was totally framed by the English for the heresy trial.

Not everybody has to write a Summa Theologica to be a saint.

Wait Cuckolicks are capable of thought?

OP started a thread about thinkers, not heroes.

i know, i asked him because i was courious

Pope John Paul 2 - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_John_Paul_II

Which is why my initial response was this.

i wish i would suck her dick

>Which are some great catholic thinkers?
>catholic
>thinkers

...

E. Michael Jones

I think the poster is just unaware of what the thread is about.

How about Walker Percy? He was a Catholic author/essayist from the south during Jim Crow and was a close friend of Shelby Foote.

Try to guess how I know that you're a burger.

+1 this. Written a lot.
Look at:
St. Thomas More.
St. Ignatius.
St. Augustine.

Martin Luther end of discussion the first to stand up to church doctrine. You can't sell heaven to people.

Albertus Magnus

old but good

YOU POST BIG

But seriously though you have GOOD TASTE regardless

Thomas Aquinas is pretty great.

I ended up using one of his meditations on the nature of ethics in a paper I was writing on ethical philosophy. I'm not even very religious; but it was a damned good argument. When asked to define good and evil Aquinas argued that mankind was created with a certain nature by God and that acting in accordance with that nature was good and acting against our nature was evil.

Catholics are too dichotomic in their way of thinking to be good thinkers. Proper thinkers are to be found within Islam.

...

St. Augustine you braziallian faggot

Georges Lemaitre

Hilaire Belloc.

If you haven't read "Economic for Helen" then you have some reading to do.

isidore.co/calibre/get/pdf/Economics for Helen_ A Brief Outline of Real Economy - Belloc, Hilaire_5605.pdf

Christopher Dawson's "The Making of Europe" is one of the most important books written in the last 100 years.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meister_Eckhart

Eckhart von Hochheim O.P. (c. 1260 – c. 1328[1]), commonly known as Meister Eckhart [ˈmaJ̯stɐ ˈɛkʰaRt], was a German theologian, philosopher and mystic, born near Gotha, in the Landgraviate of Thuringia in the Holy Roman Empire.

His sermons on the Godhead are really good and meant for laypeople.

protestants literally believe that the "3 wise men" saw a magical star that appeared in front of them and walked behind it until they came upon Jesus''s manger LMAO HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

this is an oxymoron

Etienne Gilson is quite nice. I've been reading him lately.

>Defending final and formal causes in a school paper

My guess either they were lost by it and very impressed or they were strongly critical.

Either way, neat stuff. Those ideas don't derive from him but he formulated it very well.

ugh, this somehow seems more racist than just having white triplets

I read on the internet that SHE WUZ QUANGZ, but white melanin snatchers covered it up, like they always do.

>Lemaitre - big bang theory
>Mendel - inheritance
>Ockham - logic

It's actually pretty funny how atheists use Catholic intellectual achievements to justify their own heresy.

a jew wrote a great song about her

I am so glad I left atheism.

Congratulations, user.

Anti-theist have never been the brightest. At all. They're next to Evangelicals in sheer stupidity.

If you call the synagogue a brothel, a den of vice, the devil’s refuge, Satan’s fortress, a place to deprave the soul, an abyss of every conceivable disaster or whatever else you will, you are still saying less than it deserves.

- Saint Jerome

There are few better than Chesterton

Good ol' Marty boy begged for forgiveness at the end of his life. Had no faith in the heresy he spewed. Admitted it was all malarkey

Also Hilaire Belloc

NOTHING about misinterpreting Aristotle to fit your Christian views is great.

My boy Benedict XVI, Pope Emeritus and future Doctor of the Church.

Everyone should read his "Jesus of Nazareth" books, they are wonderful.

>My guess either they were lost by it and very impressed or they were strongly critical.

I argued that his position worked with or without the inclusion of a deity. Namely human beings have a nature which can be defined by empirical observation, in Aquinas' work that nature is dictated by God and thus acting in accordance with it is good because God created your nature and God is inherently good. I argued that the argument worked with or without God since empirical observations can allow us to make assertions regarding our nature. So for a simple example it would be bad to deprive someone of oxygen for extended periods of times because they require it by nature. I then got into some more complex arguments regarding the nature of human subjectivity and the means by which the individual will ascribes value to things.

Its been about 10 years; but as I recall it got a pretty good grade.
