>The U.S. Department of Agriculture states that, “about half of the hired workers employed in U.S. crop agriculture were unauthorized, with the overwhelming majority of these workers coming from Mexico.” The USDA has also warned that, “any potential immigration reform could have significant impacts on the U.S. fruit and vegetable industry.” From the perspective of National Milk Producers Federation in 2009, retail milk prices would increase by 61 percent if its immigrant labor force were to be eliminated. >ers.usda.gov/amber-waves/2012-june/immigration-policy.aspx#.U1TfkfldUSt

enjoy paying 100 dollars for a cucumber and gallon of milk
Jacob Mitchell
Fuck no. I don't want any more of my tax dollars going to millionaire farmers.
Daniel Collins
Jokes on you, I grow my own cucumbers and don't drink milk.
Nathaniel Taylor
Oh no, those evil farmers might actually have to pay their workers a decent wage. Whatever shall we do?
Gabriel Kelly
>deport illegals >hire the homeless to do jobs illegals were doing I just solved two problems at once.
Dylan Phillips
This so much. Liberals crack me up, bunch of fucking hypocrites. They don't want to give us their housekeepers and pool cleaners that they can pay $10 a day either.
And the industry would be fine. Even for foods that are more delicate and complicated to pick, automation isn't very far away. Only reason it hasn't taken over yet is because of the supply of cheap labor.
Think paying a bit more for produce is a fair price to pay for fewer illegals leeching off the system, more skilled labor and engineering jobs held by legal residents to design, built, and maintain robotics, etc.
Charles Sullivan
Agriculture will not collapse. There are almost no illegal workers [or non-whites] in places like North Dakota, which is #1 in wheat, honey, and a bunch of other stuff.
I've driven through the "farmland" in Southern California. That's the only place that actually "hires" these illegal workers, and the way they do farming is completely absurd. It's ridiculously inefficient; they are irrigating deserts using subsidized water. They are paying people to walk around in the muddy rows of vegetables and shit on the plants.
A lot - I mean a _lot_ - of great things would come from America shutting off the stupid economic stimulus that makes southern California an "agriculture center". It's a giant money sink and it is being used as a wedge to allow a constant stream of brown undertow into the country.
Meanwhile, the descendants of Germans and Scandinavians in the Midwest have been getting bigger yields with bigger, American built machines, and no immigrant help, for years and years and years.
Also, the price of milk would also not skyrocket. Most modern dairy operations are completely automated and have almost no human labor. California does NOT have the majority of US milk production. Anyone hiring illegals to work in dairys is way outdated. They are hurting our country economically and demographically.
>hire the homeless there's a reason they're homeless
Isaac Martinez
Because all the low skill jobs are taken by illegals who will work for pennies?
Nolan Hernandez
God forbid they have to pay a living wage. The hypocrisy of you liberals.
Joseph Reed
The liberal bureaucracy defending itself as usual. I wish Trump completely purged the government when he got into office, but I guess I understand why that would've been a bad idea politically.
I really wish Bannon can do more with his promised destruction of "the administrative state."
Gavin Nelson
>milk would be $3/gallon instead of $1.89/gallon >illegals would all be removed
This sounds great to me. When do we start the purge?

Maybe the agriculture industry should be explaining why they hire so many illegal immigrants. Pretty sure that shit is illegal.
Camden Ortiz
>North Dakota, which is #1 in wheat, honey, and a bunch of other stuff
Yeah because growing grain and harvesting grain totally the same as growing and harvesting fruits and vegetables
Matthew Morgan
Good.

But the wages will go up, with medical insurance and retirement packages and shiet, so that /The_Donald/ NEETs will fight for those agriculture jobs!
Lincoln Bell
Worth it to get rid of the spics.
Bentley Johnson
Ultimately in the long run, this will be economically beneficial as workers who pay TAXES will be ushered in to take these jobs. This industry will be forced to pay fair wages and will probably have to undergo much reform.
Why is this a bad thing? I agree, it would be too much of a shock to deport all immigrants at once but that is not realistic and will never happen. If anything, it will be a slow trickle out beaners back to Mexico or whatever shithole they came from.
Pay your taxes beaners. Stop sending your kids to school on our dime. No more free healthcare for you. You can no longer sleep on America's couch for free and you're mad about it. Get over it.

very good point
how do we unionize illegal immigrants
Lucas Ward
This.
Low income workers are not needed in agriculture to the degree we have them. Automation is not just coming, it's already here. These low income "migrants" are only slowing down the automation that socialists claim to love so much.
We don't need low income migrant labor, they need their income.
Jason Howard

Remove illegals, then the exploitive industries that capitalize off them get hurt. Oh no, what ever will we do once we can't exploit people anymore.
John Collins

Evan Myers
WTF I love slaves and child labor now!!
Charles Gonzalez
People making less than the minimum wage is good, let's double the minimum wage for people working bottom level shit jobs, then businesses will break the law and hire more illegals
Owen Brown
I love that Democrats still fight for slave labor to this day. The segregation train never ends.
Jayden Carter
What exactly is wrong with this if it makes food cheap and they're happier than they are in mexico? it's also been proven they pay into the local economies they live in so local businesses profit from it as well.
Jacob Ward
>not punishing companies for hiring illegals >not pulling federal funding from states that host illegals >not converting the unemployed into workers with no longer depressed wages Fuck no to subsidizing, that just kills local farms and makes setting up farms more expensive.
Camden Edwards
It's not even a matter of it being "worth the price." It's a matter of enforcing the law, Mexican citizens are residing in the US illegally and businesses are skirting the laws and taxes by paying them under the table.
Nathaniel Diaz
oy vey, my strawberries will cost me $1 more, how will the economy ever recover? Drumpftards BTFO

Got that backwords. Rural landowners and farmers are massively conservative and that's why they won't go after the illegals in agriculture, they'd be hurting their base.
Isaac Peterson
>From the perspective of National Milk Producers Federation in 2009, retail milk prices would increase by 61 percent if its immigrant labor force were to be eliminated.
And there goes the US dairy price being so much lower than Canada's because of Muh Free Market myth. Not only are they subsidized all to fuck, they also rely on underpaid illegals to keep prices down.

The majority of conservative farmers in the US do not employ illegals.
The link between illegals and primitive agriculture is a highly localized problem.
Jack King
They wont go out in the fields to pick shit unless you call it a local food experience and have them pay you to take the produce home.
Seriously though people don't want to work for the wages the farmers want to pay. Eventually, something has to give and it will be better in the long run but no matter how it goes down it's going to be MESSY.

what are you talking about? these people are not happy doing this. they are replaced or just stay there because they are stuck and cant go home for many reasons. dont act like their job making shit wages working a lot probably live on the farm. most are uneducated know little english. dont ignore that aspect you high and mighty cunt.
Tyler Jenkins
Exactly how it is in Maryland. If you don't have the family name or are a friend of the family, you aren't getting any jobs at the farm.

You mean Americans aren't willing to work for the wages that are currently being artificially depressed by the refusal of the state to enforce immigration law, allowing tens of millions of illegals from a country with less than 1/6th the GDP per capita to stay and work in the United States.
You can't disconnect jobs in agriculture paying jack shit from the overabundance of dirt poor mexicans willing to do them for jack shit.
Joseph Hernandez
Conservatives are smart. They move according to market forces for the biggest gain. I know of plenty of them who take advantage or stupid government subsidies for corn and soybeans because why leave money on the table and plenty are willing to look the other way or not look too closely at documents as long as they pass the required minimum plausible deniability and even without going that far many use legal immigrant labour that has a similar effect on the market. Smaller farms sometimes don't really have a choice if they want to compete with large-scale farming operations and stay in business. People today don't want to work for what the farms can afford to pay. Even some of trump's hotels apply for immigrant cleaning ladies from poland because it's the most efficient financial move, why leave money on the table.
Unfortunately using those avenues of success can lead to relying on them and reinforcing shitty systems.
Kayden Fisher
What do you think I meant by >Eventually, something has to give and it will be better in the long run but no matter how it goes down it's going to be MESSY

What ever happened to the liberal push for a $15 minimum wage?
Does that suddenly not apply to agriculture workers?
Why do you want to exploit vulnerable people, OP?
defend your love for slave labor, OP
Dominic Gonzalez
Automation has already replaced a lot of the labour for the large scale operations. It's the smaller farms that need the labour more to compete and couldn't absorb the losses from a huge market change.
I was just recently seeing news about small blueberry farms struggling because unusually big yields dropped the price.
Leo Jenkins

Defend this, abolition tards.

The majority of illegals don't work on farms. Tell illegals that they can stay for now, but only if they work on a farm. The left loses it's only legitimate argument, and we get to deport all illegals who don't want to compete with everyone else for a $1 an hour hard labor job. Then we can start deporting farm spics slowly in order to encourage technology development that will rid us of the need for migrant workers.

>only selected "trust worthy" inmates eligible >each morning they sit through a power point presentation for an hour covering the basics of farming techniques, information, and modern advances >just enough to claim they're receiving an education >spend another 7-10 hours working the fields
We could probably get away with this. I mean we have inmates produce women's underwear, work in call centers as telemarketers, and do a ton of other things for basically no pay. The more I think about it the better this sounds. Some prisons will even train people as fire fighters and utilize them to fight forest fires in California, no reason why they couldn't work on farms.
Thomas Wood
We're fat enough already

>And there goes the US dairy price being so much lower than Canada's because of Muh Free Market myth. Not only are they subsidized all to fuck, they also rely on underpaid illegals to keep prices down.
The dairy cartel here in Canada is fucked. They basically force supermarkets to buy the milk for more than what they sell it for. All the while, paying the actual dairy farmers jack shit.
It's why I haven't had milk in years. Not to mention if they legalize ultra high temperature pasteurization here, that shit has the nutritional content of water.
