this is untrue. the term "alt-right" and significant numbers of people using it has been around since way before this election. the medias strategy towards dealing with "those people" before Trump was to ignore them and hope they went away. nobody ever expected hillary to lose. they all thought the republican party was toast and dems were the wave of the future.

when trump became popular, it became clear these people weren't just going to "go away" and that they were a lot more of them than they thought. so they thought they could shut them up and make them go away by calling them "deplorable" and "racist".

but unfortunately, saying "racist" as a slur to someone who is actually openly and avowedly a racist doesn't shut them up and make them go away the way it does with everyday fagcucks. they didn't plan on that apparently.

what's more, even real fagcucks like the ones over at the_donald started not even paying attention when they were called "racist" because they realized it had just become a slur to use against white people to delegitimize their views, opinions, experiences, and cut them out of a conversation without having to engage them on the level of ideas or policy.

that's why the media thought they could simply bury trump when he first announced his campaign by saying he "called all mexicans rapists" in his campaign announcement speech. it didn't work and there has been a blood feud between him and the media ever since, presumably in some small part because he made them feel small and powerless :(
