With that said, I personally think LSD and other psychedelics are probably the best way to get rid of your possible traumas and more or less irrational fears and they should DEFINITELY be legal. Even a bad trip usually turns out to be a good trip in the long run because it forces you to go through all the skeletons in your closet, to say.

Drugs are not inherently bad, they are just often misused and/or abused. Some drugs even have medical uses, but are not explored because of the restrictions posed upon them. I have been a former heavy drug user, and i regret wasting my time and mind on it, but I was cought in a rough place in life, and as a teenager was highly confused about a lot of things, so i turned to drugs, and the people taking them/selling them, as they offered a sense of belonging at the time.
I believe that for drugs to stop being a problem, we need to legalize them, and fund any and all research on them to better understand them. In the world of illegal drugs you are sucked in to a criminal underworld even if you don't wish to. It's no secret a lot of people are alcoholics but yet these people despite their addiction can be accepted by society because it's "legal."
Today I only smoke cannabis on the weekends and sometimes in the weekdays if I am having trouble sleeping (I work an office job so I dont move much), but I still get to work every morning at 8 ready to do what I have to do, and despite the belief that drug users can't get good jobs, I have a fairly high paying job (for my age) in a foreign country, a company car, a decent and happy life.
I feel that after I stopped sitting at my mates house all day ripping the bong, and instead keep to myself and use cannabis as a personal reflection tool and a relaxant I have much better control over it, I also smoke less to get to my desired effect when I do it alone.

Maybe the way I've been interpreting it is diluted, I'm fine with that. But, I've always understood it to mean that humans had begun ingesting certain types of mushrooms and other naturally occurring psychedelics. In doing so, they begun to expand their ability to understand and other more complex intellectual capacities developed from there.
It's a suggestion that somewhere along the line of eating these types of plants and other forms of ingestion, people progressed, with the help of the psychedelics. This isn't to suggest that they became more and more sentient because of them, rather through the continued use of them over generations in what they would refer to as spiritual uses and such.
Of the humans even remotely similar to you, generations before you hadn't had the perspective of the "drugs" you speak of. They weren't at all demonized or hated, they were celebrated and used in responsible and respectful ways.
