>Hillary Clinton cited a study showing young people who read the Harry Potter series are "more compassionate" toward immigrants and LGBT community members during her speech Tuesday in Chicago.
>Clinton made the reference while delivering a speech at the American Library Association's annual conference, as fans of the popular book series celebrated the 20th anniversary of the first novel's release.
>"Years of data suggest that reading fiction builds empathy," she said. "It helps us put ourselves in others' shoes. One study even found that young people who read the Harry Potter books, which first came out 20 years ago this week, were more compassionate toward immigrants, refugees, and members of the LGBT community."
>"So it's impossible for me to overstate the impact on children who see themselves in the pages of a book and are introduced to people unlike themselves in the pages of a book, and then are inspired to dream a little bigger," she said.
>J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series is frequently cited by members of the "Resistance" to President Donald Trump. Clinton identifies as a member of the said "Resistance."
I always knew it was a good choice to be a TolkienFag rather than a PotterPussy.
>10 year olds and women are more accepting of things they have no understanding upon which these things do to society
woah.... made me think
Christian Hernandez
I was never into HP. More of a Mein Kampf kind of guy.
Cooper Bailey
Did the study say anything about those kids spending the rest of their life comparing everything to Harry Potter?
Also those tits goddamn.
Benjamin Cook
Thanks for the tip, user. Now I know to personally ban that book in my house.
Blake Smith
why the fuck is it ALWAYS HARRY POTTER

But everyone's a harry potter reader. Ive read all the books and i still support trump
Colton Anderson
mfw I was on voldemorts side the whole time. the dude just wanted to master magic and screw the system over. her studies are bullshit because I'm not compassionate.

>Reading Fiction Makes you Empathetic >Reading Nonfiction and Seeing Reality makes you Apathetic
Really takes my noggin for a joggin.

Is it any surprise liberals commonly associate with children's literature? They never grew up and still act like children. Then again when you grow up watching the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises who can blame them? Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.
>a-at least the books were good though "No!" The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.
James Bell
>my cultists are described by condition A and condition B, therefore studies show conditions A and B are connected! >reading shitty books "written" by a mentally ill autistic lefty from britistan teaches you about life Leftists are a joke

>reading fiction builds empathy
This was unintentionally hilarious

New poll out. Hilary can still win. Just donate your paychecks to the Clinton foundation.
Jose King
I read Harry Potter as a kid and frankly I couldn't give a fuck about LGBT people if it wasn't unchristian af and against 2000 years of white civilisation.
Plus I seriously believe that divergent sexuality is a unconscious choice that can be corrected. I mean the Romans must have known something when they assumed that everybody was naturally bisexual. They still hated fags though.
Logan Moore
Harry Potter reader, Trump voter here.
I think a better indication would be that if you liked the last book, then you are a Clinton voter.
Juan Martin
Read both Potter and Tolkien as a child. Tolkien is horrid literature for children, whereas Harry Potter are childrens books. In the field of comparative literature in Scandinavia Rowling has 0% respect and is not taken serious as anything else than a childrens book author, whereas Tolkien is very much respect for both his fiction and theorectical essays about philology and comparative literature.
Elijah Lopez
I'd kill you all to berry my dick between those breasts.
>Billie Joe of Green Day calls he and his crowd "The Harry Potter" as a resistance to Trump
Billie, you were in your fucking 30s when the first Potter book came out in the 90s and your now at 401k planning stages, your the woman in her 60s going to the college sorority parties
Leo Hill
Kek this. False cause fallacy onward to victory.

>be a huge fan of Harry Potter when I was younger >also hated niggers idk man
Dominic Jones
Song of Ice and Fire is one of my favorite book series.
That being said, I absolutely hate the author (George Riggins Rank Martin). I'm almost certain he slips into a blackout everytime he writes a chapter- there's no way he should be capable of such badass writings.
Jack Bailey
Maybe it is. The fallacies often has more names. And you're welcome my friend.
Zachary Ramirez
he would have fuckin won if boweling didnt add bullshit horcruxes book 6 and retard wand mechanics that pretty much made it easy mode for a feminist shitblood, ginger and manlet orphan to kill one of the greatest wizards of the age.
legit bullshit
Jordan Taylor
I guess you didn't know because you just got here from reddit, but we have a whole board devoted to talking about books.
Hudson Butler
>George R R Martin >Stephen King >Bret Easton Ellis Good writing, but this image sums it up.

Didn't it end in a Deus Ex Machina? I don't know the book ending, because I only read the first four books, when the fitfh finally came out I felt to old to be reading it.
Jackson Sullivan
Voldemort did nothing wrong . He wanted to make a world of pure magicians , based as fuck

That was my thought. Fictional ideals for a fictional world. History and reality are quite cruel and unfair in all senses.
Cameron Scott
Anyone arguing using pop geek culture is a complete man child moron without any intellectual capability to debate as a grownup.

The Harry Potter books are pretty much the only books I have read. I hate refugees
Elijah Ross
Harry inherited a bank vault full of gold, didnt share it with obvious gibs like ron, clearly he isnt a socialist. rich boy bangs poor boys sister, she is white btw, is Harry (ourwizard)?
Jace Ward
What the fuck do they have with their fucking Harry Potter all the time?
Is everyone autisitc today? There are real problems out there and not this 1/10 fantasy books for stupid children.
Nicholas Hernandez
i never really read harry potter although i am of that generation. half of the first book didn't catch my interest. i was a weird kid though. read a lot of these accounts of ww2 battles published in the 50's that my school library had. then i read a lot of cyberpunk shit in highschool. bowden might have been onto something about pulp fascism. i can't think of any media i consumed that told me to negotiate with terrorists.
Ryder Anderson
I never got a chance to read the Fellowship books, is it true that Boromier did nothing wrong and his portrayal left out his true character of being one of the GOATs of humanity only to be humbled by that fancy ring's voices?
Isaiah Wood
>tfw read Harry Potter in 2nd Grade since my reading comprehension was too high for the rest of the class >now am unironic exterminationist
didn't work on me
Isaiah Sanchez
pretty much. she added this whole thing with wand "ownership" and how disarming someone actually makes you the owner of the wand, which goes against events in previous books. there's fanfiction with better endings than that shit.
Evan Jackson
If anything, Harry Potter made me realize that useless people (Muggles) are holding us back as a society.
Adam Howard
Well the research is true. It's not clear to what degree it's correlation vs. causation since empathetic people tend to be more likely to read, but reading does appear to promote abstract, multi-layered thinking with regards to things (intelligence) and people (empathy).
Evan Walker
Voldemort did nothing wrong
Levi Gomez
yeah its all gone to hell im picking up the quran today
James Collins
Yea, banning isn't good enough. We should have book burnings of Jewish, feminist, anti-white Marxist filth.
Matthew Kelly
The core of it is kind of a real problem. Devaluing empathy by getting people to feel over bad things that happen and large faceless groups of people in either way, be it hate or empathy is a very real problem.
Mason Rodriguez
>Harry Potter memes again Jesus christ. Just read classic literature and nonfiction like a self-respecting adult.
Easton Harris
Actually in the extended version of the movies Boromier's motivations are a made a LOT more clear and he's explained far more, and he's not a bad guy. And yes, the books do so too.
Isaiah Lee
Then why do I just want to see muslims burn?
Robert Hall
Am I the one holding the picture or is that the authors collectively holding the picture?
Christopher Anderson
LOTR fans are more intelligent
Austin Perry
Out of curiosity, did Rowling ever get around to letting those refugees shack up in her home? It would be the compassionate, Harry Potter thing to do.
Nathaniel Ramirez
I've read HP novels as a kid and now I hate immigrants. Sorry Madame President
Isaiah Miller
in 50 years (((muggless))) will flood schools like Hogwarts with so many half-bloods that magic will no longer exist due to diluted blood lines.
The magic of our forefathers will no longer be possible thanks to these inferior wizards flooding our borders.
Charles Martinez
Just watched most of the movies, not a single black character until the 5th movie and suddenly they're everywhere making out with the wizard chicks and Harry is getting a woody by some darkie waitress.
David Cox
Fuck off reddit
Matthew Jackson
The authors. Not you. You did nothing wrong.
Ryder Anderson
>"Years of data suggest that reading fiction builds empathy,"
So only in their fucking imagination liberals are able to strengthen their belief in their multiculti dream.
Jose Wilson
Harry Potter has always been high level faggotry.
Jaxon Hill
Boromir is often named as people's favourite character as he is the most human (quite literally) of the fellowship.
He wanted the ring for the power to help his people who were the few people actually dealing with Sauron's shit. But of course the ring doesn't work that way.
John Perry
>people who read harry potter are pussy faggots wow it's fucking nothing
Aiden Cruz
These LOTR headlines are killing me man.
Joshua Morris
Damn straight.
Adam Flores
Boromir was a hero who did everything he could to keep his people's spirits up while being humanity's bulwark against the orcs. This hero then embarked on a lengthy, incredibly dangerous journey away from the front for the sake of attending the council in Rivendell. This journey was in fact so dangerous that Tolkien himself said it could've been told as an epic in and of itself. After successfully hazarding the perilous trip, Boromir finally sits in the council, where he is constantly mocked and derided by the very faggots his people are throwing their lives away to shield. He is given no reason, only empty platitudes and mysterious nonsense. But still, he soldiers on, protects this """fellowship""", and eventually gives his life for its sake.
I hate knife ear faggots and that fucker Aragorn so god damn much.
Bentley Stewart
I hate Harry Potter and I hate that people associate it with Britain I'm not compassionate at all towards the sort of people that like Harry Potter they're all cunts And JK Rowling is a cunt >this is how japanons must feel when people like anime
Eli Hernandez
>The Great Gatsby >god-tier
Neat picture of the Roaring 20s, but I had hard time sympathizing with pussy whipped millionaire, spineless narrator, masculine tennis girl. Not to mention the married love interest or her adulterous husband. Themes of idea of love and incapability of moving on are done to death, usually better than this book. But it was reasonably well written, with living imagery, so mid tier.
>Monte Cristo I liked this more, despite it being something else I expected. And now I want a Cigar.
Hudson Wright
JK Rowling is a luciferian bitch who pops up on twitter supporting Star Trek faggots when they say their should be no borders and sex with 12 year olds. They are more SJW orientated, because they are deeply shit
Hudson Rogers
I read fiction all the time and I hate refugees and fags.

Remember the days back in the early 2000's with all the conservatives freaking out saying Harry Potter will ruin their children? Looks like they were fucking right again, just like the slippery slope with gays.

DRUMPF is literally Voldemort
Ryan Robinson
I read all the harry potter books and enjoyed it. My personal favorite being the second one. >I believe the world is overpopulate by useless people and that should be rectified >I believe that jews and niggers must be killed and the remaining few left alive in humanoid zoo's so the world will know why we killed them >The wrong side lost WW2
Jason Smith
Just a reminder that JK Rowling is a hardened Labour voter and wrote the Harry Potters books while living on state benefits.
Camden James
Boromir was a great example of the failure of man and could be used as a great analogy for alt-light/progressivism.
Boromir is a a great man of his own measure but is corrupted by the allure of more power and usinf the tools ofnthe enemy thus bexominf a tool of the enemy. Tories and Republicans are this on a grand scale. They sacrificed their integrity and people in order to win at politixs in the short term.
Labour and Democrats are even worse, like Denethor. He sees an issue but draws the wrong conclusion and allows the enemy to shape his perception and understanding and thus sacrifice their entire nations to their modern cult of now.
They talk about the failure od the Numenoreans who fled to ME beinf rhat they cared more about their dead ancestors and what they were instead of being doxused on being great themselves and having children to carry on. Great analogy for how we idolise the 'Greatest Generation' and gave up on going forward.
Anyway /foresight and perception
Dominic Brooks
Spoken like someone with a nigger in the woodpile.
Justin Diaz
He did definitely get the short end of the stick in that film, Even in his short plea for use he didn't really get to express how far their borders had shrunk, atleast if I recall some of the stuff I read right.
Kevin Cruz
Haha didn't she come out against Corbyn though? She's a dirty blairite through and through All the liberals hate her now Everyone hates her now
Also George r r Martin is an open communist really makes you think
Colton Rodriguez
Here is my personality profile according to OKCupid.
I have read countless fiction books, played plenty of role playing games and even used to play DnD and still play chess in which all you do is think about what the other player is trying to do. Putting myself in other people's shoes is something I'm extremely adept at.
Brandon Moore
Another bullshit study doing ass backwards research and calling it science. It's more like sympathetic losers who wish people were more compassionate towards them being losers are more likely to read bullshit like Harry Potter to escape their miserable lives.
Oliver Butler
Terry Goodkind at least writes shit that is on point.
Angel Cox
>cuckolds read harry potter
in other news
Oliver Evans
harry potter is god complex the book
>kill supervillain just by being born >one day a hobo shows up and reveals that you are a wizard >travel to a magical castle in wonderland >make many friends who instantly love you >also some enemies but they are obviously huge assholes fuck them >entire fucking narrative revolves around your autistic magical ass and you're a center of every single little thing that is happening in the book
Landon Perry
>Compassionate You're a fag Harry.
Dylan Bell
I hate this bait
Zachary Hernandez
I'm starting to think that people just fall to the left or right based on how lazy they are.
It's easy being left wing. Just say something 'nice' like 'feed the world bro' and you won't be challenged. Whereas a rightwinger always has to go on the defensive with logic and facts, like 'you can't just feed the world with aid as it causes other problems such as X'.
This is reflected in the schism between Harry Potter and LOTR. Harry Potter literally waves a wand and problems go away. He's also 'special' due to his birth. Whereas LOTR is just one big struggle and the ring bearer even fails at the last minute, then departs Middle Earth because of the pain of the stabbing and the weight of the ring on him.
Also look at professions. Stockbrokers are rightwing mostly because they have to take risks, whereas safe space jobs like social care are full of leftists.
>tl;dr
Leftists are lazy and this is reflected in their film preferences and jobs
Daniel Martin
>Hillary Clinton cited a study showing young people who read the Harry Potter series are "more compassionate" toward immigrants and LGBT community Everything about this sentence makes me sick.
Levi Powell
Why would anyone read fiction when reality is far crazier?
