You have no idea if it evolved to not. You only ca look at the outward morphology of the species. For all we know it's immune system or internal biochemistry has been evolving. The only way to test that is sequence the complete genome of an ancient specimen and compare it to the genomes of a modern one. If you did that I bet there would be significant differences.

Evolution is not a ladder to be climed. It is an adaptation to new environments based on the INCREDIBLY simple idea that if you DON'T adapt, you DIE.

So then any mutated edge you can get, however small, is carried over to the next generation, and those positive mutations build up, over and over and over.

But if a creature happens to find itself in a stable environment that doesn't require it to change at all, then it will not.

Evolution can happen very quickly, or stay stagnant for millions of years.
It all depends on the environnement the critter is evolving in.

If that thing hasn't evolved for 450 millions years, it means it managed to stick to the same environnement and eat similar food for the same time.

It may have evolved in a manner we don't perceive, such as internal immune system, or perhaps it had no reason to evolve since it already was built in a way to suite the biosphere it lived in then, and lives in now.

Additionally evolution does not contradict creationism. Either God created us in a way and we evolved since then, or he created us in a way knowing that after x years of evolution, we'd become what we are. I like the latter version because it implies that we may have not yet finished evolving into whatever is God's own image.

It is not based on the idea that if you don't adapt you die, it is based on the idea that the creature most suitable to survive in an environment will survive, and the ones that aren't, will die out. This can happen inside the same species too, if a family of birds with more slightly more crooked claws are more suited to the environment, they will be able to prosper at a greater rate, while the others slower or not at all.

It takes use millions of years of that, for monkeys to turn into humans.
