It's kind of interesting actually. American blacks started giving their kids weird names around the 60s with the civil rights movement and the beginnings of Pan-Africanism. They mimicked French names found in West Africa mistaking them for traditional African names. It continues today because Black America's goal is essentially to be as "not white" as possible so the names just keep getting worse and worse
