I've been trying to put my finger on why these people have such strange beliefs and I think I've gotten close. Essentially the idea is that they perceive the social world as concrete reality rather than an abstraction built on top of, you know, dirt, trees, animals, humans, etc. I'm not sure any of them have reasoned about anything from first principles, everything they know or think they know has been learned via social transmission.
