Why make something like that when you can take your used tampon and call it modern art?

I'm almost certain that we've reached an unprecedented level of degeneracy and historical revisionism to the point that we truly have lost the past. I don't trust or believe anything anymore.

>not making paintings with period blood
How sexist of you

Post modernism. Everything has been made far too easy. The paradigm within which contemporary "artists" operate is one of institutional laziness, really.

The degeneracy is off the fucking charts when an actual whore can sing a song about getting wrist icicles and riding dick bicycles to teenage girls after a terrorist attack incited BECAUSE of your degenerate music. I honestly wish Planet of the Apes were a reality because we've squandered our dominance of this planet.

No worries, it won't last forever. The Roman empire was also full of people doing degenerate shit. We're just waiting for someone to topple our empire.

I was in DC for the last week. Along the way I visited the art museum and the modern art museum. Don't recall the actual names. Art museum was filled with European portraits and landscapes from the 16th century to 19th century mostly, with some late medieval stuff and a smattering of 20th century art (I think). I believe there were sculptures and stuff as well but I didn't have time to see everything.

The first museum was really incredible. Made me want to get some prints. A great deal was simply very pleasant to look at, but a not insignificant portion was eerily realistic. The amount of attention to detail, time and effort involved was incredible. The capturing of the little details of the human form in particular.

Modern art museum was even more juvenile and amateurish than I thought. It got so bad that at one point I was at a drinking fountain and saw a plaque next to it, at which point I had a moment of panic thinking I was messing with an art piece. Turned out it was for a piece of art above me I hadn't seen, but it illustrates the quality and absurdity of the pieces in there.

Unironically, the Jews.

>at one point I was at a drinking fountain and saw a plaque next to it, at which point I had a moment of panic thinking I was messing with an art piece.
you might be retarded. Might wanna get that checked out

One of the art pieces was a sink, tilted a few degrees to the side. Seeing a plaque next to a drinking fountain in an odd location is a good reason to assume it was the same way, at least in that particular museum. I'm not the retarded one, those who made the art and those who decided it was worth displaying are.

It often is ...

>How did this level of art, creative design and beauty become lost to our species?
Because "our" species is lost. The white man has passed the event horizon and will go extinct, leading to this planet becoming dead husk and the galaxy going silent until the end of time.

All they do is destroy everything good. Even the jihadi mudslimes stop for prayer.

Seriously, fuck the communists!

Barbarous peasants looked at pic related and wondered who could have built such marvels.

Decline is like that.

What is the name of this statue?

Good art is still made. The Jewish intellectuals have been promoting post-modernism for the last few decades. Post-modernism is garbage, but since the Jewish intellectuals are putting it at the forefront of all artistic output, all of the good more classical art is drowned out.

"Modesty" by Antonio Corradini (Italian, 1688–1752)

I have never met a single person who has liked modern art, yet somehow it keeps being made.

I wonder who's behind all of it.

There are still good artists out there. Regardt Van Der Meulen does some amazing sculptures and steel works.

Modesty, by Antonio Corradini

fuck I wanna touch them tits and navel

Art like anything needs money to flourish, the jews buy all the art and get off on the decadence of spending $200,000 on a post-modernist canvas drawn over with a bic pencil and period blood done by a poor Colombian, and after the (( invisible )) hand of the market prices this 'art' at $200,000, a couple years later it's worth $300,000 sells it and gets off on being a master of the universe.

Who keeps funding and promoting this modern art crap anyway? Is it just one big circlejerk of these hacks? I gurantee if you ask relatively normal people if they'd pay the price of an art gallery entry to see
They would call it actual art and worth the fee instead of horrid shit like a crooked sink or a canvas with fucking crayola paint splattered on it.

There are still plenty of people making classical paintings and sculptures. It's just that nobody talks about them.

Here you go user: youtube.com/watch?v=lNI07egoefc

TL;DW : Post modernists ruin everything of value.

Even though the proportions are always exaggerated and blunt, I kind of like socialist realism.

Did the greeks and romans have any stories of autistic sculptors making a statue their waifus?

>Who keeps funding and promoting this modern art crap anyway? Is it just one big circlejerk of these hacks?

A lot of it is money-laundering. Think of it as Bitcoin for the wealthy elites.

all of this is still studied and practiced in art schools all over the world (read: not in liberal shitholes), but it's so mundane and basic nobody does it anymore because you literaly can't top the best of the best (all of which are in the past) without being some sort of genius

Just typed in "realist statue" in Google. Turns out everyone is refusing to look in the right place. You aren't born in le wrong generation, you are just bitches.

Looks like a waifufag to me.

This isn't really what the thread topic is about but I appreciate the bump none the less.

One problem is that there are simply too many competent artists out there who can nail realism. They are just using modern materials over marble. There are thousands (tens of thousands) of living artists who can create realistic statues if that is all you are looking for.

The obscene cost of marble keeps them away from doing tradition carvings. It isn't necessarily a lack of skill that keeps them away.

The only way to stand out is to go creepy/weird/feminist.

I think that's part of the problem.
The statue in your post is obviously incredibly real and lifelike.

It's also fucking gross.

This, there's a serine beauty with marble that displays the perfection of the human body in an elegant, neat and clean way. To make it absurdly realistic like this is grotesque and gives it the look of a monstrosity. These artists should bite the bullet and use traditional marble instead of this hideous super realism.

And that is why they put their efforts into things like this.

Realisim is creepy, like you say. Simplified human forms used on interesting ways are more marketable.

I've always felt that the predominance of paint rather than plain marble in classical art and some architecture was a good metaphor for what it symbolized for to modern people. We like to envision it as ethereal works of majesty, but they may have been much more garish than we realize

Most ancient statues were painted as well. The paint was lost over time so only the stone remains.

desu they look better without the paint

my point is that people like
are projecting something that isn't necessarily true. In the same way one looks back at the past and see perfect times, perfect peoples, and perfect societies

agreed, Augustus looks like a fucking melanzane with that paint

that is pretty fucking cool, just doesn't inspire one to marvel at the skill required like some of these marble statutes do

a damn sight better than the rest of the post modern shit

confirmed 4 retard

Pic related. The ancients tried to make their old statues as realistic as possible and their shitty paint jobs were the best they could do.

The paint wearing off is a major improvement to these statues, plus they look more imposing and meaningful when just stone carved coloring.

>what do you mean art is dead?!?! just look at these hideous fucking sculptures!!

It didn’t. You can see anime figurines which look very similar to that.

Its literally money laundering.

Every fucking thread. The method used to discern which paints were used can only show the base coat. Any painting will look like something out of mspaint if you only look at the base paints.

we don't lead great lives though

youtube.com/watch?v=KAExa9P7hME

There are still good modern sculptures

...

Oh I agree. that is why the discovery that old statues had such shitty paint jobs. it is disappointing to see how they originally looked.

Similar things happened with more recent art, like the famous "nightwatch" painting. it turns out it was a daytime painting but like a lot of art for the era the varnish mixed with soot from pre-electric light sources darkened the painting.

It is an iconic painting that was simply damaged over the centuries to the point where the painting was renamed "night watch".

Neo-Renaissance when?

Because it was men who did it rather than blue haired cunts on daddy's dime. It was also poor men. That were paid. A lot.
So yes, it was good because it was their bread and butter.

Botticelli, the true antidote to modern art

Weren't most of them also high up in temples, buildings?

Or like in the Trevi Fountain, a good distance away from the public?

Perhaps the paint didn't need to be hugely detailed?

Is it good or bad I got a slight boner from this? Cause I mean you are supposed to appreciated the work of the female beauty

Google "European art"
Then Google "Jewish art"

There's your answer.

Some were up high, some were not.

The eyes on them were really simple, cartoon kind of shit. It is amazing how much better they look unpainted. Here is Caligula.

Ever wonder why artwork of that caliber is still revered as great art? It's because it's still impressive. But it's been done already.

If sculpture stayed stagnate nobody would give a fuck about the medium. The reason modern sculpture is in its current state is because of the history. You bitching and moaning about how much better that piece is compared to modern art is like complainig that no one composes classical music anymore.

We don't have to as a society. Been there, done that. Take some time to learn human history, expand you're thinking and grow a pair of balls faggot.

Besides, even if you were born when that level of sculpture was made you wouldn't have the access or coin to gaze upon it.

Ungrateful fuck

>DURR WHY DONT PEOPLE SCULPT IN EXPENSIVE ASS MARBLE ANYMORE????
>MUST BE DEM JOOS AND SJDUBYAS!!!!
You people sound like the biggest retards. There's millions more sculptors alive today than there has ever been and they're churning out beautiful work 24/7. They just aren't sticking marble and bronze statues along your ride to Wendy's so apparently you'll never know they exist.

Protip: ALL 3D work is sculpted. The chisel has been set down and the wacom tablet has been picked up. Do a GIS for "zbrush" and blow your minds.

>b-but muh marble!
Do you own shares in some italian quarry or something?

kikes took over the art world and destroyed it out of spite.

Surf the Kali yuga baby

Jesus christ. Thanks for posting this shit user now im depressed

>muh marble
Literally click a different material shader.

Why don't Americans know anything about anything?

Eh that's actually pretty cool. I don't mind some modern art because let's fucking face it, times change but when I say modern art I mean things like this that if not inspiring or beautiful, are at least cool to look at and not regarded as anything more. Traditional art should be encouraged as the main medium

technical art, while awe inspiring and shows dedication and skill, lost it's prominence after generations of the same stuff being made and shown. Newer art would catch on and it continues and continues.
Photography also killed a lot of the technical stuff, since art did also serve as a way to capture the world and people.
Anyone who really appreciates art, it's history, techniques, and message, will relate that loving and looking at one era of art will eventually lead you to look and get why things changed the next era.
Modern art is a mess, mainly because everyone now has a voice (media/internet) and funding for art is a lot more spread out than the patron system of before, which also spreads specific interests of art out as well (religious, portrait, furry, etc)

Also, people back then had less easy distractions and much more time dedicated to bettering their trade.

Greco-Roman civilization never existed. All these statues and ruins were built by the Nazis in the 1940s so they could claim the Jews were dragging them dow from a fictitious past glory. Truth is, it's Weimar all rhetoric way down.

Except that doesn't go into inspiring infrastructure for all to see
At best shitty vidya

Cue Islam? Because that's how it's going to end and you know it.

For sure

>>The paint wearing off is a major improvement to these statues
How do you know? The reconstructions only show the base pigment, it's like paint-by-numbers.

you will never see that art in person. i can't commission that sculptor to create a beautiful work to put outside my chateau.

>How did this level of art, creative design and beauty become lost to our species?
It didn't, it still exists, you're just not looking for it.

Haven't heard that one before, but those trips are telling me I should take your word for it.

Here, have a (you).

Don't choke when you swallow, user.

why? It's easy to confuse some random dog turd laying around with modern art. The difference would be only plaque

Christ you might be right.
>There was darkness forever since the beginning. Life appeared in a spot and flourished, it evolved and matured and even left the homeworld to dip their toes in the universe. Then it went silent and there was darkness forever more.

i'd disagree. There used to be large numbers of people trained in the Baux Arts. That culture is now entirely lost.

Good artwork still exists, but isn't nearly as promoted as the insane postmodernist crap which is really just there to crush the soul.

Michelangelo was 23 years old when he sculpted this.
