There is too little money going to space colonization

And a fuckton of money going to the military.

If only half of the military money would go to space colonization, we would be terraforming the outer planets and having a new wild west frontier.

Why is Trump not doing anything?

there is nothing out there worth our time

It is difficult to justify space spending while gutting the NPS and destroying the ACA.

>terraforming the outer planets
Artificial space habitats are the future

I'm sure Europeans said the same thing after discovering the new world.
Look, exploration improves technology, improving the quality of life for everyone, and drives us towards a common goal, improving community.
The only way you'd think it's not worth our time is if you can only see what's right in front of your face.

Maybe, but if we don't at least try then it's HUMANITY BTFO.

>there is nothing out there worth our time

Space wild west balls... nothing worth our time.

BULLSHIT.

You could get stranded on an island after your piece of shit boat comes apart and still live. The space ship fails in any of a million ways everyone dies.

It's capitalism 101. Private capital will not invest until there's a profitable goal in sight. It's the same as colonizing the Antarctic. Even screw the Antarctic, consider Siberia, Siberia is so huge yet virtually un-fucking-populated. Because there is no point.

>If only half of the military money would go to space colonization, we would be terraforming the outer planets and having a new wild west frontier
Source or are you talking out your ass? Also the outer planets are gas giants. How do you terraform gas?

You know jack shit. Colonizing the new world was a very urgent agenda for all great countries. They just lacked resources, mostly people to send there.

Might as well just stay on your couch watching reruns.

>space

Do you even know how vast atlantic ocean was and the ship and boat were not that great, so most probably your boat breaks down in the middle of ocean and you drown or storm fucks you up. Risk was always there.

Source for an opinion? Wud?

>Also the outer planets are gas giants.
What is Firefly?

I didn't say all Europeans, I just meant short sighted ones.

That might be what's happening. With the de-escalation of the proxy war between Russia and the US (again), through Assad and US-backed ISIS faction(s), money will be freed up to pursue other missions. That might as well be funneled to the new Space Corps being talked about lately.

For now. Terraforming is always going to be ideal.

What are you spacenuts even going to do out there? The reason no one cares about space is that it holds nothing for us.

>b-but muh science
>b-but muh knowledge
Space is the biggest larping field of academic. Even worse than paleontologists.

>holds nothing for us
Do you want humans to go extinct, or do you just not care?

>the new Space Corps

Dude, America hasn't had its own human carrying space vehicle in 6 years. Now you want some military Space Corps?

Let us just take a step back, what we want is space colonization. So what we need is a good new mission as a next step. The best one is a human Mars orbital mission to Deimos or Phobos.

If the alternative is a few individuals flying around in a tin can drinking each other's piss, I do think extinction is preferable. Humans and the earth belong together.

The technology to reach our closest star is still 100+ years away if you look at how we are progressing.

We will probably see true AI before we get close to inventing or developing anything that can get to an inhabitable rock.

We look at massive amounts of money to launch this sort of space program. Think of the GPD of the entire planet.

Our best chance is to send out space "arks" to slowly spread life to dead planets with skeleton crews.

This.
Terraforming any object in the solar system bar mars and venus is impossible.
Moons don't have enough gravity to retain an atmosphere, and the only terrestrial planets in the right orbits to be near the goldilocks zone are mars and venus.

Where is your spirit of adventure user? Your thirst for new frontiers? If you're non-white I guess I understand, but if not then I suggest changing your flag to the faggot one.

we need at least a three dozen breakthrough techs before we can ever fucking live on another planet. any attempt until then is a fucking money drain.

american colonization was feasible because it was guaranteed the land was fertile and available. the water was pristine and resource untouched.

closest available planet is mars and it's a fucking barren desert.

the technology must become available so the current resource production steps (harvesting, manufacturing) can be compacted within a small colony. until then it makes no business sense to even fucking try.

otherwise that 'colony' is just a resource drain that must be resupplied with water, food and manufactured goods.

>we need at least a three dozen breakthrough techs before we can ever fucking live on another planet. any attempt until then is a fucking money drain.

Oh no, we need more tech for space flight! So everything we do right now to get this tech and experience is just not worth it! So let us just get fatter, have more diabetes and put every last cent into the military and liberal arts degrees!

Europe doesn't spend any money on their military nor space.

I talked to some Leftist criminals about this, they made it clear. They see going to space as a way for whites and their imaginary porkies to "escape" the also imaginary damage they've done to the planet.

They will gladly hamstring our development to force us to pay for their healthcare.

> So let us just get fatter, have more diabetes

why don't you just go out and exercise you dumb useless faggot

well put

Thank god someone else gets it. Apparently people make some link to astronomy and 'the heavens'. Except if you are going to be honest, theres no 'heaven just for science'. Its just literally space. Empty space and a fuckton of burning gas bubbles.

For better or worse, our position in the galaxy mathematically assures we will never make real-time contact with other civilizations. Theres just basic physics, distance and time to consider. We can't even pass each other going elsewhere and the odds of seeing each other before one of us is extinct is pretty slim. The distance that needs to be traveled means generational periods away from Earth. Meaning you have to accept you will never see Earth again just to go look. The nearest, rather useless, star is 80k years away at top speeds. Meaning you could go 20 times faster and still take 4,000 years to get there.

Mars is worthless for real estate. It can hold no atmosphere so we cant terraform. Humans genuinely do not do well over time in artificial environments. Without the curiosity and novelty of space, no one would want to stay. Every child born off planet would dream of coming to Earth. Without a defense or energy interest, we have already explored enough of this system to know the rest is worthless.

At best, we will get some government assisted trailer parks in low orbit for workers to maintain whatever boondoggle they end up building, perhaps a tourist trap. But learning details about useless things is just more useless information. Its interesting, but in truth you are paying people to stare at the sky and imagine they will see something.

Colonization implies an actual colony, not simply an outpost. Im sure there will be a bubble house on Mars and or the moon. But the interest will become short lived. There's nothing useful about a desert where you can never leave the house and pay a fortune to say you took pictures.

War is gonna happen sooner or later. Investing in military is hard to percieve as a bad idea, no matter how you look at it, unfortunately. And that's unlikely to ever change

>ywn have a laser gun fastdraw duel on mars

>For better or worse, our position in the galaxy mathematically assures we will never make real-time contact with other civilizations.

fucking yawning at your naive and outdated, close-minded views on astronomy and physics. people like you are what's wrong with my country.

We have to maintain our military budget because if we don't some euro trash would try to take over the Fucking place... Looking at you kraut.. Back to back WW losers

Because inbred hicks in bumfuck west Virginia need those jerbs

Cutting our military budget in half would still make it over twice as large as China's budget.

That military money is going g into weather manipulation and "terrace forming" sciences being used in the oceans.

The only thing slowing us down is making sure (((they))) do not catch wind of operation white phoenix.

Where your sense of realism is. Your idea of space exploration doesn't only hinge on us suddenly finding something out there worth exploring, but also that just about everything we know this far (you know, about how big and empty it is) is somehow wrong or made irrelevant.

Might as well prepare for the second coming of christ will finally make your life interesting. Just as realistic as hoping that we invent FTL, wormhole travel or whatever meme technology you think will deliver you.

There is no space to colonize.

>We spend too much on the military
Oh im sorry that we use our military to keep other countries from making land grabs

the james webb telescope is launching sometime next year.
we're gonna see first light.

>this is what every Burger on every planet anywhere in the universe said

200yrs later the monckey race of that planet took over and civilization ended... without any space colonization. Just because the smart part of the population was too busy doing VR games.
