China to ban VPNs, fully closing internet

Does the coming VPN ban fully protect China from western degeneracy and SJW?

China's Great Firewall may squash VPN workarounds by Feb. 1

China is ordering the country's three biggest cellular carriers -- indeed, three of the biggest cellular carriers in the world -- to block users from accessing VPNs in the first place

haha one of my friends went to teacha da engrish in China, gonna get screwed if they ban VPN's

oh well sux2bher

>Does the coming VPN ban fully protect China from western degeneracy and SJW?
China is plenty degenerate without the help of the west or the internet.

Lack of empathy or morality isn't "degeneracy"

Degeneracy is society committing ritual suicide aka Europe/USA.

You are confusing the two things.

Maybe it'll end shareblue and half of Twitter?

Companies can still use VPN, this is for personal usage.

adjective: degenerate
dəˈjen(ə)rət/

1.
having lost the physical, mental, or moral qualities considered normal and desirable; showing evidence of decline.

Except China is on the ascendancy. You could call it degeneracy if it was still the cultural revolution.

...

Call me when they ascend above the smog level.

How about a source, goof?

will it really work though? there should be ways to get around it.

Oh no how is ADVChina still going to make videos ;_;

Presumably that's going to make international companies and expat workers abandon China if only because it's near impossible to get anything done these days with most of the net blocked. Plus it'll make China globally uncompetitive, although they may not care at this point.

kek

china really needs to stop with their blocking... the amount of analysis they do on their incoming and outcoming traffic and all the firewall rules pretty much makes their network shit... i remember some chinese network engineer told me that china, at least a year ago, had 4 main firewall systems and connections must travel through that system... what if we anons take it down... fuck the prc!

fuck yeah multiple internets is the future. normies get out.

Curious whether Tor is blockable in China?

wait... how are u posting from China?

it is... but i think certain bridges manage to get through

And there many on Sup Forums who say China is the Besht country in world.
" See China? Communism really works!!. Death to American capitalists fascists!! "

China only cares about propping up local companies anyway. They only want international companies to come there so they bring their IP over for locals to steal.

As long as they control so much of the world's manufacturing and have the capacity to bootleg literally everything Chinese companies will continue to be able to produce knock-off shit in mass quantities.

actually, now that i just looked at tor's page... aparently the meek bridge works well... idk, someone who knows someone in commieland can ask them to try it out

>Plus it'll make China globally uncompetitive

China is large enough to be its own market, much like Japan.

Fuck this... correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't a company in the US manage the distribution of the world's IPs? Doesn't that give them the potential ability to cut portions of the world off from the internet? If they can, then they should just cut off china's fuckin internet

Reddit spacing is a space between meme arrow text and normal text. It is because when you try to meme arrow on reddit you always have to add two line breaks to post normal text under it. Now you know.

They'll still leave the expats alone since those of us working in corporate settings all need to use a VPN to maintain productivity. All this bullshit means is less bitchy chinks next time someone does something bad to one of them abroad. Hopefully abuse of chinks abroad goes up.

yea, and out of all its tech companies, 99% are shit. Huawei is like the only good one... half the companies, like xiaomi, are just bootleg apple shit, baidu shittier than any american search engine, wechat is autistic, and that chinese amazon company sells shit worse than ebay

China's economy mostly depends on producing cheap garbage in slave labor tier conditions.

>degeneracy is the things i don't like
>the things i like aren't degenerate

all the dollar a day peasants can't afford the shit china makes

Makes sense. They don't want their population to use other countries websites like Facebook, Twitter etc
That way they'll keep their internet users from spending money outside of China.

Can they still use tor?

Nice. They have also cracked down on porn and faggotry just recently.

> Huawei not a PLA covert op
Don't be a fool. Never trust Chinese tech.

There isn't much margin in cheap knockoffs. China needs to earn foreign reserves if only to buy oil and other needed minerals, and to keep raising the living standard if only to keep the people from revolting.

If Chinese companies and workers can't compete globally because they're blocked off from the internet then things will definitely suffer economically. It's short term stability (sheltering people from outside news/influence) vs long term economic stability, basically)

Xiaomi is pretty good if you don't get fakes. Alibaba/AliExpress is fucking amazing.

I hear you guys are messing with them in your northern region? Fuck them in the ass if they come for war, okay?

Also, nuke pak while you're at it

Use shadowsocks

Who needs them?
Also why is that girl's face a different color from the rest of her head?

they really are trying hard to fight off the inevitable chinese revolution

It's called makeup. You know, japanese people have been using that shit for a long ass time in kabuki theater.

Did Sup Forums drink retard juice today? More than normal?

...

china apparently can't into tunnelling

kek9th pbp

this certain bridges can get through. But good luck finding the bridges in the first place and there is so sub reddit i assume in china that you can randomly look up for bridges etc.

That's not how the internet works

a friend of mine just got out of there
I think hearing this shit might be coming helped

Thank God, maybe my fucking private wow servers won't be flooded by the scum

that was 5 years ago

Yeah, now they're onto building shitty replicas of European cities that no one lives in. Or are they on to something else now?

>ban vpns
>people use vpns anyways because that's not how technology works you fucking retard
Chinese education

the china market is huge, due to the population. they need to get their infrastructure up, then they can weather international price volatility with ersatz goods.
in theory anyway

It started further back than then!

YES.
50 cent army need to be done.

titanic theme parks 300 miles from the ocean?

This, they'd constantly have to update their list of vpn servers which sounds pretty impossible.

But they can ban around 80%

They should first ban chink drivers

...

did he died?

It makes sense to ban ZOG internet in your country, though.

Do you really want Facebook, Google, and Pornhub corrupting your people?

Probably

Lol

...

Obama gave that shit away, remember?

...

I think we've known for a long time how terrible it is when outsiders do business with Chinese.

...

...

Why is that bitch painted white?

Zoom to face and see line between face, neck & ear

no you dumbass, to start a new line on reddit you have to also add 2 breaks, otherwise it just goes into 1 line, there are no meme arrows required

>what if we anons take it down
yeah ok kiddo

OK, so firstly this is unlikely to really happen, this kind of news come up all the time and is never implemented.
This article seems more specific than most of them, so they may attempt a block of some kind.

In terms of technical feasibility of that, They can absolutely block OpenVPN (the majority of vpns) at any point without so much as a problem. They can do that right now. The GFW performs deep packet inspection on all connections leaving the country, identifying encrypted/unreadable streams.

All encrypted connections suspected of being OVPN are followed up by the GFW attempting to connect to the server with the OVPN protocol, if it replies back the IP immediately flagged and added to the throttle/block list.

As it stands, I suspect they can block shadow socks with some reliability, but I don't think they have it down well enough to implement large scale without risking wholesale blocking of legit websites and IPs. I think currently they are throttling potential shadow socks connections, which they identify based on usage patterns, and will then kill any that goes above 100KBs before 1am~ish.

Due to shadow socks nature, that doesn't really stop it from being useful and hinder browsing too much, but you do need multiple private server to really get going gud.

The GFW is not any single set up, it is the responsibility of local ISP to maintain and keep it up to date. I think the hardware and software they use is probably standardized to a certain point, but the actual management certainly in part is done at the local level.

They can just maintain whitelist of domains and block everything else. Registered businesses have the right to apply for inclusion of their own infrastructure to the white list. Problem solved.

>when an entire container storage blows up to scare away foreigners

They could do this and it would be very effective, but I honestly think at that point it would prompt a much bigger response from the locals.

A lot of the locals view the whole GFW thing as acceptable to a point, but if it starts fucking with their ability to make money (any it will), they will go ape shit.

Who is this qt

I am not sure if you can use TOR in China, I don't think they have nodes there.

what was that?, factory exploding?

>China's Great Firewall may squash VPN workarounds by Feb. 1
They can't
Simply without vpn you can't conect to western server, work remotly, work on server. All corporate offices have vpn for remote workres.

You have to use the bridges as user mentioned, which is essentially a semi-private node.

It is slow as a hell though, even more so than normal for TOR, and I am pretty sure they can block it based on usage stats alone, let alone deep packet inspection.

it was the Tianjin explosions, container storage facility blew up killing 173 officially but likely higher in reality due to China's censorship

Corporate offices have the "option" to buy a special VPN just for their use, it is likely that if the Chinese gov went full blocking on VPNs, they would also force these offical VPNs on the companies or invite them to leave (taking nothing with them).

90% of chinas trading partners are slavs, niggers and various other shitskin third world regions

yes plz

>implying they have the capability to block paid VPNs

>tfw they're only doing it so their people will stop looking up how shitty their government was/is

>tfw they had already changed what their people see when they look up Tienanmen square

Quality post. I wasn't aware that GFW can do that kind of actions automagically.

And everyone in east Asia and America too.

I mean, they categorically do if they are based on the OpenVPN protocol, that is frankly a trivial thing to do and an unwrapped OpenVPN session won't even connect most ,if not all, of the time.

Most Paid VPNs use OpenVPN running through either SSH or TLS, but both of these have draw backs. SSH is heavily slowed down and throttled at all times, and any particularly long lived (15m-45m+) TLS session is interrupted and the server IP added to the "fuck you" list.

Block paid VPNs is even easier than blocking free personal connections set up by individuals as the additional connections from other users helps them quicker identify servers to block.

Lol this is entirely untrue. China is large in population and geography but this doesn't not equal being large in sustainable internal capital flow, internal infrastructure, or varied balanced markets. China's economy is totally dependent on the trade markets of the west.

>china
>no internal market
Lol

I doubt there is a country in the world, including the US, that can field a more advanced censorship system than the GFW.

From a technical perspective it is a thing of beauty, and if the rumors are to be believed heavily uses machine learning and AI on their deep packet inspection data to identify users and wall jumping of all kind.

>this is what socialism looks like

The majority of those people moving to cities and towns will be working low level factory or construction jobs, they will be more engaged in the economy in general then in their rural communities, but the Chinese government is smart enough to know they need to slowly turn those people in to a middle class, and that until they do they have to rely on exporting.

Except the Chinese consumer market is one of the largest profit generators for both domestic and foreign companies in china today.

It is worth literally trillions.
