Again: it does not matter if he did not receive information, and there's no evidence to show one way or the other if any information was shared during the meeting. That's not at issue.
If Jr. knew or believed that the information he was to receive from the meeting was gathered by the Russian government that is espionage.
You can't seek out information through illegal channels and then go "I didn't REALLY believe it was from that source!"
