Not really. Don't let nostalgia goggles from the "real 90s kids here xD" born in 1998 fool you.

More White. Less (((technology))). More natural living. More families. Harsher people and more humble. World view was National and not (((global))). Less anti-White propaganda.

>what were the LA Riots

the 90's were a shit time for race relations, at least in America

Relative paradise.

No internet? Surrounded by bluepilled faggots? Gangsta rap emerging. Slowly watching white culture and society erode?...Kinda sucked. It would much rather grow up in this period of red pilling desu.

>He didnt have aol or prodigy or msn

born in 1987 here, it was like evolving from the stone age through the distant future, exactly like Turtles in Time. absolute best generation to live through, cannot wait for space exploration when i'm 40.

The culture and direction of the country was better. The technology was shit, and we knew it back then

Imagine not knowing - and not needing to know anything about Islam except that it motivates a bunch of impoverished crazy people to kill each other.
Imagine being blissfully unaware that your country is being slowly transformed into a third-world hellhole just so leftist political parties can gain permanent power (since their ideas are harebrained and their failures are legion).
Imagine assorted faggotries being merely a "lifestyle choice" and not an Identity whose various sexual acts are given privileged status in the law.

1974 reporting in

You had to walk or ride to your friends house, ring the doorbell, his mom would answer and you'd ask "Hey is Craig home?" And she'd say "nope haven't seen him. He's around somewhere."

Then you'd ride your bike around looking for him.

Riding BMX bikes around the neighborhood. We'd roll a log into the street and put a piece of plywood on it you got from your dads garage and make a jump. No one wore helmets or pads.

Later we played with RC cars in the streets.

Atari 2600 came out and we'd play it but still get bored and go outside and make forts in the woods.

Reagan was fantastic.

Out 80's boyscout leader was convinced we were going to be invaded by the Reds. He showed us how to handle guns and kill a wilderness rabbit by holding its body between your legs and knocking its head out of its socket.

This is too comfy to be real. I want to believe

This thread is full of "le born n the wrong decade" cucks.

Therefore, it fuckin' sucks.

Oh yes the time when Bill Cosby was probably the most respected black man and when nobody outside Arkansas had heard about the Clinton's. To find out anything real about politics you had to listen to certain talk radio. Mainstream media was still deceptive but not near as bad. MTV played music videos and FM radio had live local DJs in your city who would play requests. Girls were way more down to earth, generally.

> new faggots will never hit a makeshift ramp on a GT or haro bike

Born 1980 here.

Dad drove me to friends house in a Datsun in Los Angeles. The valley felt exactly like those coming of age, john hughes movies where things were white and idyllic with just a small taste of ethnicity from Viets, Koreans, greeks. Little did we know that it was already way past creeping up along in southern L.A., a barbaric swamp ready to overrun our lilly whites.

Learn from us , from the 70s and 80s. We were the front lines to the disaster they will befall all of you, to the ruin of all.

Less zerg on our soil.
Now we pic related.

How did it all go so bad so quick?

the best thing about growing up without internet was rumors were completely unconfirmable so any little urban legend was believable and fascinating, roasting marsh-mellows over a camp fire was a time to share with people not something you take a picture of and post on instagram and facebook and wait desperately for acknowlegment

That's how it was man.

I wasn't a city kid but back then most surburbia areas still had woods.

We all had Daisy BB guns and and later Beeman pellet guns, would ride our bikes into the woods and shoot at birds, squirrels. You'd feel great when you bagged one. Then you'd walk over and see it dying in the leaves, and feel fucking terrible. It was a rite of passage.

You'd play outside until it got dark and your parents would have no idea where you were. Come inside with busted knees and elbows and dirt in the cuts, and your mom would squirt Bactine in them which would sting. And it was all normal.

School work though.... that was a different animal back then.

My dad was one of the first in our neighborhood to own an Encyclopedia set. So kids would come over and borrow them so they could write their report. Otherwise you had to ride your bike to the library. All kids had library cards when you turned about 13.

The LA riots were a singular event with a specific cause.
They were a shock to both the bluepilled masses as well as those who figured the state would be prepared for shit going down by sending in the National Guard or whatever.
These days we have riots every other month when some nog gets shot after robbing a convenience store.

Yes, it was better, but not because the era itself was so great. It just wasn't as terrible as it is now.

Imagine you have a popsicle that's covered in a bit of dirt. That's the early 90s. Now imagine someone shoved that popsicle up their ass. That's the present.
Obviously you'd prefer the former over the latter, but overall you'd rather have a clean 1950s popsicle.

Another thing that was different:

In school, all the way thru high school (I graduated in 93) you were taught American history. A lot of it. Every year.

And you were taught that America was fucking great. Even including Hiroshima and Nagasaki, this was absolutely the right thing to do because it won the war with minimal loss of American life.

We had these really slow 1200-2400 baud modems. It would take like 45 minutes to download a black and white nude cindy crawford fake.

great movies in a theatre (alien, star wars, bladerunner, brazil), great music, fun tv(charlies angels, six million dollar man, cosby show) and my god so many white people. I say this as a spic from Texas. I miss the white people. I was the only spic in my elementary school. Now it's 98 percent spic

The 1965 Immigration acts basically set the quotas unleashed for the 3rd world whereas before you had to be from west Europe mostly. There were always exemptions for refugees fleeing communism and the such, but now strong able people from Latin America and East Asia were tapped in.

The first zerg wave happened shortly after, by the 1970s there were millions of mexicans moving into the southland for better oppotunity. This was strong encouraged by both parties for sadistic reason, but was going to have major effects when this dribble became an outright flood after Mexico's economy crashed soon after.

At the same time you had mass emigration out of South East Asian shitholes all congregating for new jobs and opportunities. No Chance for integration. You could literally way koreans just eat up central real estate forcing white flight to the suburbs that were under attack from hispanics. Crazy days

>miss the white people

Where did they go?

Good post about the Valley.

I was an east coast (Connecticut) kid. But we still saw, and loved, movies about you guys.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High was one of the best movies (and still is) about the '80s Valley.

Loved that goddamn movie.

Born in late sixties..Everyone was married and I mean everyone in my middle class area..You had no choice but to find things to do and it was easier to learn if you wanted with less distractions..If you were going sideways in early life you went to work and there was always work..Niggers were niggers etc...It was invaluable growing up in a time when you read the classics..We didn't have shit like this to waste time with...I liked the pace..Sorta like camping compared to the autobahn of internet pace..It was awesome man...Advantage today is more niches, but less community...I loved Reagan and even democrats were patriotic as shit..It was America man...

Sounds exactly like my childhood, though I'm an early 80s model.

I was lucky enough that my father bought a relatively compact camera in the early 90s, which me and my friends would constantly borrow. As a result, I have about ten hours of footage from around 1992 to 1997.
We'd even film ourselves just walking around the neighbourhood, going into shops and randomly interviewing people. I had no idea how much I'd appreciate that footage as an adult.

It depends on where you lived. In the areas that are now multicultural shitholes? Everyone that wasn't black was considered "white", so there were way less racial tensions and miscegenation wasn't really a thing yet. Also, the immigrants that were coming here were the third world version of the 1%, so they were actually well behaved and at least if average intelligence

Then the third world eventually ran out of 1%-ers, and the untouchables started to be shipped in. Now no one likes immigrants, especially immigrants

I remember the front and rear foot pegs some kids would put in their bikes for cooler bunnyhops and endos....

Takes me back !

It was a more innocent time. Trump was just some sort of joke you read about on a tabloid or saw a segment on Robin Leach's program. Today...

Replaced by illegal immigration. It wasn't so bad at first in the early to late 70's, but then every fucking wetback started having 3-5 fucking anchor babies and there you go. When my dad immigrated legally in the early 70's it was hard to find tortillas in this major city.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you find out about and start browsing Sup Forums? Also, how optimistic or cynical did most Americans seem when you were growing up? Did they trust politicians and our government in ways they no longer do?

Yes. Being a kid in the 90's was fucking awesome

The culture was way better. Not too degenerate but also not too puritan. Blax and whites were segregated culturally as well, then Enminem happened in the late 90's and it all went to shit

Eh, a little better maybe. It was an economic boom period after all so most people had jobs.

It's not that the 1990's were some utopian age, but the problems that were occurring in the world were generally not occurring in the US and the west more generally. Also:

> Last really great non-electronic musical trends
> maturation of videogames into something genuinely great, not dots and block crap
> political boundaries were clearer, less confusing
> PC thugs were mocked by the left as well as the right in most culture, roundly defeated for a decade
> a lot more direct social interaction, more traditional experiences with real people

There were downsides though too, make no mistake.

it was probably just cause i was a child.
your mind tends to forget the hurt and only remember the good, even if it wasn't good. I think that is just something that comes with getting older.

There was more optimism.
may not of been true. The internet was so obscure and young at the time that if you consumed anything, at least your major caloric intake would of been some form of corporate media. perhaps more specialized, but still corp.

>EVERYTHING was influenced by cali, miami, and cocaine, which is why anyone cared about the first 2.

>go back and watch any thing from that time with Robin Williams.
> All your childhood movie characters were done by a fucking wigged out coke fiend.
> like, how did noone notice that and say something.
>fuck.

>those of you who know know im right.

I'm pretty sure in the 80's parents either left a full stack of pornography or at least 1 magazine in the closet for their children to find so they wouldn't have to have the conversation. This was universal at all my friend's houses.

what were the downsides?

Pol is a collective hivemind of failed individuals who come together over something basic as skin color. They are losers, and from this resentment escalates racism and other garbage ideologies. I look forward to war, as an upper class citizen, to purge America of whiney losers, both black and white, whom of which have no respect for the work and cultivation that defines the individual.

The 90's were a fools' paradise, no doubt.
We were in "The End Of History". The Agnostic Materialism of Capitalism had beaten the Atheistic Materialism of Communism by delivering more and better material goods. Demographic change wasn't on most people's radar, and they assumed it was a two-way street.
As for gay """rights""" people figured "We'll give the faggots what they want and that'll be the end of it". Oh ho.
The entire outlook on the future was different: we were going to be reaching for the stars, not being overrun by primitive savages.
That's one reason 90s movies and music were so Dark 'n Edgy. It was a reaction to the seemingly aimless, carefree world situation.

Everything went downhill after the advent of the internet. The 90's was the gasp of humanity before it went into decline. Sup Forums being a prime example of the degeneracy spreading across the world.

And race relations are some how better now?
At least in 90's we knew they were niggers and treated them as such

it was pretty comfy

none with nearly the amount of damage and death that the LA ones did

shit we see now is peanuts compared to that

The 80's were great.

After 1994, things went to shit.

Why 1994 specifically?

Lol a superior gentleman has been spotted. THis is why hapa boys should be shot

It was definitely better than current year retard. Just watch a movie from the time period and you'll get a sense of the milieu.

Have you forgotten about hiphop culture in the mid-90s? It was huge. It even reached Norway. Half the guys in my middle school glass were sagging their pants and listening to Snoop Dogg, 2Pac and NWA. It was a golden age for wiggers.

>GT
Who can forget the flying banana.

Reading this makes me sad. You make the country sound like everyone was proud of a mutual accomplishment, happy with what we made of ourselves through the hard work of us all...
Now we're not allowed to be proud. It's taboo to be patriotic.
It's expected that we disadvantage ourselves for the good of those overseas.
I hope my generation can bring us back there, but I don't know if it's possible.

This decade sucks. It's pretty much what Sup Forums is about.

The Clinton Era and explosion of liberalism. Shit we didn't think twice about became "politically incorrect". You started seeing the first rumblings of this around '89-90. But it didn't really get rolling until around 1994.

Was still this great 11 years later. Technology gave a voice to all the idiots and the LCD that we have today unfortunately.

Ah yes, thanks for the reminder. THat was the first 1984ish feeling for me when "Political Incorrectness" became standard rube talking points.

> Less technological convenience, stuff like Netflix streaming is 1000% better than blockbuster

> Despite nostalgia glasses folks there were equally as many shitty trends, songs, and films as good that people tend to ignore looking back

> Lots of ridiculous internet panic and prognostication and dumb bubble businesses
> Irony was essentially the national youth cultural trend, and it got very old, very fast
> People were "le wrong generation"ing the 1970's really hard.

I'm guessing you're a lot younger than me. The 90s still sucked, things just moved on a slower pace.

it's really better even in Thailand
>If so why?
No internet
No Iphone
No high cost technology
Micheal Jackson still alive
It's like Human in each country free from something and get to know each other for the first time

I was a 90s kid. Middle class divorce was rare. Skateboards in the neighborhood was common. Teenage mutant ninja turtles cartoon after school. Game boys were fun and nintendo 8 bit was great. Internet was some new thing you'd hear about but nobody knew anything. The neighborhood kids would meet at night and play games on the street or around someone's house. Basketball, billiards and swimming pools were the norm. The races self segregated and the school's didn't inject liberalism.

It was a simpler time.

I was born in 1980. My whole life, politics was something you maybe kept up with, and only focused on when some serious shit happened (Iran-Contra, "read my lips, no new taxes," Clinton's impeachment, hanging chads, etc.). Now that Trump is president, we're all constantly on edge, watching everything that happens. I'm sure part of it is that the Internet gives us access to minute-by-minute information, but we weren't all constantly on a knife edge over Obama. Trump is a different animal, and not in a good way. The 80's and 90's were a time when you could disagree with the President on purely political grounds because you knew he understood the job, but his policy didn't jive with your ideals. Now, we have a president who has no idea what the president does, how he should conduct himself, what the limitations of the office are, and how he should operate in the international sphere.

So... yeah. Things were better in the 80's and 90's, and far less stressful.

The 90s did suck, but it orders of magnitude better than right now. That being said I live in Toronto so we got hit really really hard over the last two decades.

Mid-1996 is when I would say it went to shit. Especially by 1998. I have a lot of nostalgia for early to mid 90s and none for late 90s.

>I don't like what Trump is doing so it must mean he doesn't know what he is doing.

He's doing what he wants to do, and thus knows what he is doing. You may not like it, but that's probably because you're a faggot.

That's because of the police response now compared to then. Back during the LA Riots they had to bring in the fucking military because the police were under-equipped, slow to actually roll out, and incompetent in general. Now the average police force in a town the size of LA has enough guns to control a small country. They're better-armed, they have actual procedures for riots now, etc etc.

The police have gotten better, otherwise we'd have an LA Riots-tier chimpout every week because DAT POAH BOI DINDU NUFFIN EBEN WEN HE TOL DA OFFISURS TA SHOOT HIM

90s was awful unless you immersed yourself into video games to the point of social alienation, then it was actually pretty great. Everything outside video games and maybe alternative rock (that aged badly anyway) sucked really badly.

Computers were a lot more fun if you were a proto-Sup Forumsentooman. Just getting shit to work was an accomplishment. For normalfags they were either a frivolity or a pain.

bump

You're being intellectually dishonest. Trump tries at a lot of things and gets shot down an awful lot. the only thing he's done the "right way" is appointing a supreme court judge. He signs executive orders because he thinks they're legally binding (they aren't--they're basically suggestions), he meets with foreign dignitaries and embarrasses himself and our country more than even Dubya did, he lies about things that are easily fact-checked like crowd sizes, and he's more focused on his own self-image than on running the country.

You know he's a fuckup. You're just afraid of admitting you're wrong, and that's a normal human reaction. It's okay to cut bait and move on.

80's and 90's music was way better than the neutered, no-edge, low-musicianship bullshit we get now. That's for sure.

bud 99 percent of folk don't know what baud is.

Like, as in, a modem? We're well past that, and I'm not sure it matters.

The reason Trump is in office to begin with, is because of how badly the liberals have fucked over the US.
The tyranny of tolerance can't be defeated by a regular conservative.

Yeah I've always admired Trump's strategy of using information and media bombardment, as well as controversy, to his advantage, but I feel like it's going to do serious damage to this country long-term. I'm not a shill, I'll probably vote for him again in 2020, I just feel like the current news/media/information atmosphere is toxic and unsustainable. But a lot of Sup Forumsacks have a "burn it down" mentality so they probably enjoy it.

Yes it existed no not in its current form like today where everything is is available 2 clicks away. Think geocities

super nintendo, ghostbusters, ninja turtles

It was comfy.

1990 here...remember i had to actually pick up a landline and call my friends " is user home" or ride my bike and knock to see if they were home.

I don't think Trump has a strategy of "media bombardment." I think he just has no ability to hold back when he thinks of something to say. It's almost like Tourette's Syndrome, but without the lack of reason. He could survive in business because he didn't have to answer to 300 million people and the media's constant vigilance, but he's proving that what works in business doesn't always work in politics. "Fake it 'till you make it" is a terrible way to be president, but if he gave the impression that he was actually learning anything, I might be more sympathetic. He's floundering, the rest of the world can see it, and the smell blood in the water.

Voting for Trump in 2020 is irresponsible, IMO, and because of his own ineptitude, he might not even make it that long.

Politics was a boring thing that went on in the background. Even during the Clinton scandals.

Video games were REALLY good. Like astoundingly good. So good that people have been chasing that high again for 15 years and a lot of them have ruined their lives because of it.

There's really no point in arguing with people who honestly think trump is competent.

>JNCOs FTW. I'd look retarded now, but that shit was comfortable as fuck.

Well...

...yeah. I think people are slowly coming around. Slowly. Very slowly.

Are you me?

'69 here.
The 80s were OK, high school for me listening to Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden
The 90s were awesome, good MDMA was legal, good GHB you could buy from GNC and techno music was hot.
Limelight and The Tunnel in New York every weekend.

I remember being scared to death of nuclear war in the early 80s

1980 here. This sums up my childhood, except for my friends and me it was trying to beat Zelda on NES. The best part was the absolute freedom we had, though. If we could catch one another at home, we'd disappear into the woods for hours and no one was worried. Around the time the sun would start to set, you'd hear people calling your name for dinner, and we'd walk home covered in mud and bug bites.
If it wasn't for the fear that the Russians would launch a missile at any moment, I'd say it was extremely carefree.
Oh, and saturday morning cartoons. 24/7 cartoons ruined that feeling of having a giant bowl of cereal and flipping between the three channels during commercial breaks.

Nothing you said in that post was an argument. Just word soup.

>"H-hey, I think we're winning them over! Maybe Podesta won't murder our families!"

Try harder, shills.

Atlanta Limelight checking in.

..well, really, my uncle was there. I was like, 6.

>1988

Back in the 90's that was how it was. I grew out side the city in rural suburbs, meaning you weren't budded up against another. Here few had BMX bikes and most of us had mountain bikes as the roads had no pavement.

You would ride down the back trails to travel to your friends house and knock on the door to ask if Jimmy could come out to play.

We would spend hours out and the only clock you had was the sun, when ever it would be just off the horizon, it was time to come home.

Then I moved into more city area as a kid, still had my bike, and I remember jumping this one hill as the suburbs were still under development and a mound was there for construction. I was the only one to jump the mound and land it. Awesome times indeed. And yeah, no pads or helmets required by law.

Now a days, especially after 9/11, the world freaked out, can't go out even as an adult. Children are being snatched left and right and terrorism is rampant, Domestic or otherwise. Everything in the 90's was "Awesome" and "Totally Radical Dude." And don't forget about "Extreme". Now the only thing extreme are the extremists . There is no Cursive writing in schools, No Physical Education, No Dodge Ball. And all the men are Neo-Men which are just sissy faggots.

>oh but mah rose colored glasses

No you are the one that needs to take your blinders off. 90's was the last great decade. Now it is hard times, lets hope for strong men to make good times again.

Sounds so comfy

It was fantastic. The painful, ironic self-awareness and vanity that people have nowadays did not exist. Subcultures were very common back then, not "cringe". Everyone belonged, everyone had some identity.

>I remember being scared to death of nuclear war in the early 80s
How would you compare it today? I do remember we feared it because the arms race back then. Now times look graver desu.

So much less PC horse shit, but the writing was on the wall.

I remember writing a paper in college about how PC would worsen and lead to the downfall of western civilization. I got a C, because (like most of them) my prof was a libshit.

It was just different. I guess you grow a little numb to it over the years. It was just wide open nuke buildups. Not great hardware, drunken Russian leaders. A lot of shit talking. It was a scarier time to me

1973 uk model. confirmed. life was comfy.

Well there were 2 legitimate genders even though their still are 2 genders, we didn't have any of this Tumblr shit

a lot fewer spics
