I would say KY is southern, but it does fit in pretty well with Indiana culturally, ignoring the accents.
IMO midwestern is Germanic descent, while the South is primarily Scots-Irish. Chesapeake and New England are primarily Anglo as far as I'm aware. Not sure exactly what the founding populations looked like for Chesapeake area though.
