Furthermore, if this was just an elaborate ruse to get a warrant, why would the campaign/POTUS not have leaked these emails to the press sometime late in the campaign, as opposed to 8 months after Trump won?

The DNC collusion with Ukraine for oppo research is only a small part but its crucial. Keep in mind the DNC run CIA was integral in regime change in Ukraine.
