I'm not the one saying Christianity collapsed Rome. But there's no reason to think it was this amazing thing for Romans that somehow made it better.
It's not a surprise that Europe got better at science and technology as they got less religious. The "Byzantine world" was sitting on hundreds and thousands of year old knowledge and not doing anything with it. Now that partly has to do with Roman nature who weren't doing science or natural philosophy. Still, there was even less inquiries into various fields from the Byzantines.
Anyway, Rome collapsing is not a bad thing or maybe not even a good thing. Collapses happen. Blaming people for collapse assumes the collpase was bad. But this isn't obvious. Romans were not akin to Athens in terms to scientific contributions or care and later people were much better at this.
