A 46-year-old Chicago police dispatcher shot an 18-year-old woman during a fight in traffic on the South Side, according to authorities. At least five others people, including two young children shot on the West Side, were wounded in separate attacks Wednesday. The shooting following a traffic fight happened about 1:50 p.m. in the 3500 block of South Ashland Avenue in the city's McKinley Park neighborhood. The women became embroiled in a "verbal traffic dispute'' that escalated and ended with the 46-year-old dispatcher firing a shot, hitting the 18-year-old in the chest, according to a police media notification. The 18-year-old was taken to Stroger Hospital where her condition had stabilized. The older woman was also taken to Stroger for treatment of a head injury, according to police. The 46-year-old is a city Office of Emergency Management and Communications staffer who had a concealed carry license, according to a law enforcement source. Records indicate she has been employed by the city as a dispatcher since 1995.
