Why does the military have to be so strict when it comes to joining?
Half of my friends could not join because of various reasons. Most because of IQ, failed math test, the rest are mostly back problems, I know a guy who got rejected because of back problems yet he practiced parkour often.
What is the meaning with conscription then?
And they wonder why more immigrants join rebel groups than the military.

Well conscription is only really useful when you need a lot of cheap and shitty troops that you can train and deploy quickly.
Since there is no major conflicts in Europe right now, the militaries prefer having a small number of well trained and well equipped soldiers since that's enough to deal with the terrorists, and that's lesss expensive than maintaining a huge army of conscripts.
But why is it so easy in the US then?

Our military has more applicants than it could ever make use off while keeping it economically reasonable. On top of that we barely have any troops in duty outside of borders atm, not accounting jagers and frogmen. It makes good sense to only take in the strongest and most talented men and women, if they can only take in a limited number anyway.

When i were 15 i went on a short
internship in the military where we were put through every single test that you would need to pass in order to get into the military and i cleared every single one of them. My SFC said that if i just keep my physical and mental form in shape, i could get into the military and get a high ranking position no problem. If i could do that shit at 15, it just means that your friends are not stupid and not trying hard enough. But of cause you cant do anything about things like back problems and such, that is just unfortunate.
