Can someone give me a quick rundown on Charlie Gard? Why was he not allowed to the US for treatment after being granted a Visa?

The only thing that matters is that fucking toddler to die as soon as possible

>Redpill me on x
Does that baby have a nose?

US doctors said that it's too late so they stopped trying

>Can someone give me a quick rundown on Charlie Gard?
God wanted the kid to die for some reason.
If we knew the reason we would understand the universe a lot better than we do now.

>he knows too much

Yes because the UK didn't release him. Why did the UK not let his parents take him to the US?

>kids dead
>parents don't want to believe it
>keep it "alive" with machines
>can't move, feel, see, hear, it's dead
>want to get it treatment that won't do shit because it's dead
In more civilized times it would've been abandoned in the woods, everyone would've politely forgotten about it and they would've tried again.

>Death Panels aren't real!

Kid would never have a remotely normal life and require constant care which the state would pay for. The both rational and humane thing to do is let him die weeks if not months ago.

Because the sovereignty of socialized medicine and its death panels can never be questioned.

In all seriousness, the hospital should let the parents seek treatment elsewhere if their own diagnosis indicates it's hopeless. The hospital should just issue a disclaimer absolving them of all responsibilities and obligations to the parents and let them take the child. Even if the experimental medical treatment was ineffective, his results could be studied and offer new directions on researching a more effective treatment. But nope, the arrogant hospital used every legal dirty trick to stall and delay, making sure that their diagnostic prophecy is fulfilled. I hope whoever filed the injunction burns in hell for all eternity.

he could have lived if he was given treatment in january.

Literally none of that is true.

It was a clear case of the government letting a child die when treatment was available, but lolbertarian faggots are just going to ignore this because it isn't about weed.

>life would be difficult
>so let him die

That's a sentimental argument.

This is what I was going for.
Why did the hospital not allow the parents to seek treatment from other hospitals if they deemed the case to be doomed?

The kids arms and legs didn't work plus he had a bunch of brain damage.

Seems like a clear quality of life decision to me. Sentimentality needs to be removed from it.

It was the question of if the child has human rights and should be forced to continue to be experimented upon until the parents run out of money or he dies.

Are the parents making the best decision for him or them? Does the court have to step in to protect the child from it's parents?

Most "quality of life" decisions come down to someone speculating that because someone else might have a difficult life, they'd be better off dead. It's nothing but sentimentality.

The hospital refused to treat him.

>The hospital refused to treat him.
Without reason?

It wasn't 'the UK', it was his doctors in the UK. They refused to do so because they felt there was no chance of success and it would only serve to prolong his suffering. The US doctors and even his parents pretty much agreed, but wanted to try for the infinitesimally small chance.

Because they didnt want to spend the money.

So the parents said, fine, give us our son we will pay to take him elsewhere. And this is where it gets fucked beyond belief, they refused and mandated that the kid must die.

The fucking Pope even offered to take the kid into the Vatican's children's hospital FOR FREE. But even that, the easiest of all PR outs, was rebuffed.

The government wanted to make it clear they decide who lives and who dies. Britain is fucked.

The simple answer lies in two things, OP.

First, there is the nature of the disease. He suffers from the worst of the kinds of Mitochondrial Depletion Syndrome.

So far, the child is already deaf, blind, paralyzed and severely brain damaged as a result of this degenerative disease. In the meantime, it is slowly destroying his organs as well. The child is not, nor will he ever again be able to live without artificial respiration. It will only get worse from here, as the condition is invariably terminal.

The experimental treatment offered in the U.S. may help scientists and doctors better understand the disorder, but it has no chance whatsoever of improving the childs condition or stopping the progression of the disease.

Meanwhile the child will suffer as a result of transport, then if he survives that, he will suffer more as a result of the experimental treatment. In all honesty, this should be called an experiment, not an experimental treatment, as it cannot improve the childs condition. All we can control is a small increase in how long the child will live once his organs all begin failing. It's inhumane.

That argument holds no water. The parents had raised their own money, so it's not as if getting treatment in the U.S. would have been any skin off of the ass of the NHS in terms of funds. The only issue that was ever in question was ethics. Is it ethical to subject the child to an experiment to which they cannot consent, in order to learn more about an invariably fatal genetic disease which in this childs case is already very well advanced, leaving him with zero quality of life?

The courts decided no. Despite the parents grief, it does not entitle them to prolong the suffering of the child when there is, in truth, no hope for him.

The reason there is controversy here is because it's a sensational story, and that the parents and media have convinced laypeople that there is a sliver of hope. Very unfortunately, there isn't. There was never going to be a happy ending to this story.

A terminally-ill child was ordered to be taken off life-support by the state, due to British healthcare being paid for by the state.

The Gard family took issue with their baby being taken off life support when American doctors were willing to do an experimental treatment, but the UK's NHS, having full control of health care and ultimately full control of its citizens' health, refused to, saying it was better medically to let Charlie Gard die. The UK courts and the EU human rights courts agreed.

While Gard had a visa, his own country would not let him go. The US cannot simply extradite someone because they are given residency. This fight continued on, despite the POTUS even lambasting the NHS' refusal, and Charlie Gard's health deteriorated to where the US doctors believed Gard to be past the point of no-return. With no options, the Gard family has given up.

This is literally the death panels that everyone thought were FEMA camp-tier conspiracy. The state controls healthcare, pays for healthcare, and controls access to it. You are not free to pursue treatments even if they're slim, hospitals are not allowed to operate on you if there is too much risk of failure. Your life is literally taken out of your hands, and determined by the government's decision on whether to let you keep trying to live, or to let you die.

Socialists are fucking evil.

That is so fucked up. Do UK citizens not have the right to refuse treatment and seek other methods of care?

That little vegetable died last Saturday.

He wasn't a vegetable. he was responsive and treatment was avaliable.

cruxnow.com/global-church/2017/07/07/vatican-hospital-proposes-experimental-treatment-charlie-gard-case-back-court/

The governments and the courts in the UK decided the kid was going to die and while the kid's body withered away for four fucking months in the hospital the parents sued to try to take him to the US for an experimental treatment. The parents decided I think yesterday in court to terminate his life, as his muscles and body had deteriorated to the point where they thought he was fucked for life. In short, remember those death panels the Republicans warned you about? The UK has them and they used it to tie up medical care for a baby in the courts until it was too late. His chances too small, his care too costly. This is socialized medicine.

>Britain doesn't believe in the death sentence for convicted murderers
>Does for infants

>parents think the kid wont die

>doctors disagree

they were prolonging its death cause they are stupid and emotional and not logical

The parents should get to make that decision, don't you think? The state is not God - it does not get to decide who lives and who dies.

>this

But the was a treatment. The hospital decided it was cheaper not to treat him.

The moral issue of the child's suffering is bullshit. In socialized medicine, doctors have to weigh the cost effectiveness of each procedure. If they believe the patient does not have a reasonable chance of recovery, they won't authorize treatment because it is deemed a waste of taxpayers dollars. It's the unfortunate consequence of socialized medicine that when faced with a life threatening condition, the state has ultimate control over your life. Normally you can go to a more free country like America and pay out of pocket, but The EU is taking this Charlie case to new levels of autism.

Is it ethical to let a child die without treatment, even if a chance existed that it could work?

Your argument is based on an emotional appeal. Lots of treatments cause "suffering", but they are still used.

Lol no

It was not a treatment. It was a therapy which MIGHT have somewhat lessened his symptoms.
He would never be able to see, speak, or move and his brain damage was irreversible.
He was a vegetable and his parents would not let go.

No there was an experimental treatment in another country that had .0000001% chance of keeping him alive so his organs could fail later.

Don't you have some cocaine to cut?

I agree. There's doctors willing to treat and the parents can afford it... How the fuck does the state get involved?

Pretty much this

Why wont NHS buy them a new baby?

In the UK the queen owns your children and she decides what happens to them.

That really is it.

This. The British dictatorship was sending a clear message to its people, "We are in complete control".

Bretty much this.

The parents had money to pay US doctors but the UK didn't allow it. They took custody of the baby and refused to let it live.

When the doctors currently in charge of his treatment say that he's absolutely fucked and releasing him to someone else for experimental therapy (therapy is NOT treatment btw) which they've already read all the data on is hopeless to the point that they believe it to be a violation of their own Hippocratic oath.

I'd rather you die. 2 shots at high noon , or fisticuffs? Faggot.

>Life as an absolute vegetable is worth living

That biomass would even be more valuable in a cow or a pig

And yet they regularly bring in Shitskin children from 3rd world shitholes and perform surgeries on them to save their lives.

Really horrible. I can understand the government refusing to pay for a hopeless treatment, but how can they stop the parents from taking their child to a private doctor?

The gov pays the bills, they might as well be God.

He was still responsive. Not a vegetable.

It was a 10% chance. If I had a 1 in 10 chance of a treatment saving my life, I'd take it.

Are you retarded? Why are so many people itt so ignorant when you can just look up the case on wikipedia?

The baby is FUCKED beyond redemption

He is deaf
He can't move his eyes
He can't even breath
His heart is failing
His kidneys are failing
He has intense seizures that would result in tormenting pain assuming his defective brain can even "process" pain

His condition has only been recorded 15 times in history and there exists no cure for it. The doctors know 100% that the kid is going to die but the parents are too retarded and only care about "feelz", so what do they want to do? They want to take the baby to the US where they can try a new experimental therapy just to see if the baby can be saved, while the doctors are certain it won't and all it will do is prolong the suffering of the baby.

Why would a bunch of dumbfucks think they know better than professional doctors? Jesus Christ, it had nothing to do with "cheaper" dipshit, they just wanted to relieve the vegetable baby of it's suffering instead of perpetuating it by taking it to the US and making it last longer.

Doctors aren't infallible and the patient always has the right to seek a second opinion

it doesn't get any more christtard than this
>god is giving pain to innocent people but he won't tell us why and we are not smart enough to understand it ITS NOT BECAUSE WE LIVE IN AN UNFAIR AND GODLESS UNIVERSE

But they don't, the taxpayer pays the bill, the government is just the accountant. This is where people lose sight of what a Government really is, it's not their fucking money.

Tl;dr europeons are faggots.

>flag

Also its not about Charlie or his condition, it's about the state stripping two parents of legal custody over their child and euthanizing him

Lolbertarians woukd have allowed the parents to seek treatment for their child , you lolgayfascist faggot. Neck yourself.

No he couldn't. Even if the experimental therapy which hasn't had clinical tests on lab rats had worked exactly as intended the absolutely best case scenario was that he would have remained immobile, blind, deaf and dumb, and maybe lived a few extra months.
His parents were absolutely delusional. They had some of the best children's surgeons in the world saying he had irreversible brain damage and was completely unable to respond to stimuli and could never improve with multiple tests and scans to back it up.
His mothers response was "he's not done fighting and I know best cause muh mothers instinct"
It's bullshit. Complete bullshit.
The kid was a vegetable with no chance of recovery from that state.

the yank doctor in charge of the clinical trial said there was no point in treating thd kid because, er, he has irreversible brain damage which is EXACTLY WHAT THE KIDS FUCKING DOCTORS HAVE SAID ALL ALONG HURRR

>it doesn't get any more christtard than this

Get out of my country. You are not as safe here as you think Brit.

Even if the parents were delusional, you're asserting the government has the authority to make life and death decisions against the will of the family (who presumably knows the wishes of the patient). It's communist bs.

Because in single payer health systems, the state owns you and your children.

No you dumbfuck, it's about the state relieving a child of it's suffering because the parents do not care about the baby suffering tormenting hell as long as he lives and makes the parents feel good about themselves.

The doctors clearly said the baby should NOT be taken to the US, because it would only prolong his suffering since there exists no cure for his condition. The state did the right thing to do, it listened to professional doctors that have sworn the Hippocratic Oath who have recommended that the baby was in pain with no possible cure and should be relieved of it instead of the retarded parents that won't let go because their emotions matter more than the suffering of their infant.

It was not "treatment" and it would not have saved his life.
It was a 10% chance that at BEST he would have been given an extra few months before he died anyway. During those extra months he would still have had total body paralysis and been blind, deaf and dumb.

>white parents fight in courts and raise millions to keep a white vegetable alive
>black parents abort perfectly healthy children as casually as they'd cancel a hair appointment

ahah finally, less public funds wasted

>implying black women have hair
>implying those that still do would ever cancel a hair appointment

Don't bother, once 99% of these retard read "NHS", they immediately brought up socialized health-care in their heads and went on to defend the parents without giving it any thought.

All the doctors agreed the baby was beyond saving and was in immense pain, yet all the dumbfucks on Sup Forums think it's alright that the baby is suffering because as long as the state does nothing about it, the suffering of a child is perfectly fine.

>if you treat the illness, it wins

Pls canada I just had these sides replaced

>Say that the doctors confirmed there is no possible cure
>LOLZ BUT Y DUN DEY TREAT IT? LOL CANADA!!! XDDDDD

Can we please ban all burgers from posting on Sup Forums? Would significantly increase the IQ on this board

The state will take your child off you if you abuse it, and we don't consider that communist bs.
Flying your artificially sustained vegetable across the world for experimental therapy which offers 0 chance of curing his condition and only a 10% chance of giving him an extra few months as a vegetable is abuse.
He was totally immobile and with no way of perceiving or interacting with the world. He was constantly having seizures. The doctor offering the experimental therapy acknowledged that there was NO chance it would change any of those things.

kek

So this is the power of free healthcare...

Except there was an experimental treatment for him in the US, but I guess fuck trying right? Doctors get to decide who's children live and die now because of the (((Hippocratic oath))). Doctors shouldn't be the fucking deciders of a life they did not create.

UK is holding a US citzen until he dies, won't let the family pay for his treatment in America, death council.

Gotta love all the burgers crying "hurr durr this is what will happen if you have state-funded health care!!!" Piss off. No one will pay for a child in this condition to be kept alive a little while longer. It is a HUGE drain on everyone involved, including the kid. Let G-d take him.

>Canada asking for a range ban
You're adorable, leaf

"Treat"
Stop using this word. There was no treatment. No cure.
THERAPY IS NOT TREATMENT.
The parents wanted an experimental therapy to alleviate his symptoms. There was and is no treatment for the underlying cause.

>there was an experimental treatment

No there wasn't. Stop lying.
Therapy IS NOT treatment.

>if you can't cure it, why bother?

Great argument cuck, I guess we should just toss chemotherapy while we're at it

The parents still have their newly obtained US citizenship, hopefully they'll get the fuck outa the UK.

RIP Douglas Adams

>Baby was deaf
>Baby was blind
>Baby couldn't breath
>Baby's heart and kidney were failing
>Baby had epilepsy
>Despite baby's paralysis, in reality his brain could still be processing pain and he would in tormenting anguish without anybody known
>Doctors in the UK said he can't be saved
>Doctors in the US said he can't be saved
>Doctors in the US said they might allow the vegetable baby to live for an extra few months

>B-B-B-BUT GUIZE Y DIDN'T WE LET DA AMERIKAN DOCTORZ CURE DA BABY? XDDDDD

Let's also ban leafs while we're at it...

And what would that treatment have actually done? Nothing. Perhaps prolong the little lad's life by a few months but he'd still be a veggie either way.

Not to mention, who would be banking off that "experimental treatment?" Sounds like more pharmaceutical snakeoil.

The caliphate of the united cuckdom they can, apparently.

The trolls, kikes, and shills don't want what the UK actually did to sink in so they try to make it about other things, this was one fucked up situation and it was used like a big ol' "MUH DIK" at the expense of a family and maybe the child, we'll never really know at this point.

Had this happened even 30-40 years ago we'd have declared war.

The stop giving chemo once it stops doing anything.
In this case even in the absolute best case scenario of this miracle therapy which has never even been tested on mammals exceeding all expectations, the kid would have remained immobile, blind, deaf and dumb and racked by constant seizures. He would maybe have stayed alive to experience that wonderful existence for an extra few months though!

The parents raised over 1,300,000 dollars through gogo funding

The US clinics gladly smiled and offered to try a completely new "therapy" (Not treatment, cause everybody knew it was gonna die) to increase the baby's lifespan by a few month in return for over a million bucks.

This is why private healthcare is fucking terrible, there is nothing stopping hospitals from screwing people over to drain them out of their money. If this was the US, the doctors would've kept the baby alive and suffering for as long as they could until the parents couldn't pay anymore and then it would be off life support. Good thing nationalized healthcare doesn't allow barbaric shit like this to happen.

Either the child was a vegetable and can't feel suffering, or it was alive enough to have sensation, in which case why not try? Medical research is moving at a fantastic pace. Just keeping the patient alive can offer so much hope. If it's my family and my money, why wouldn't I try?
He's right. Fuck trying right?

>It was not "treatment" and it would not have saved his life.

There was a chance it would have. The parents could have afforded it. The state had no right to intervene.

The actual doctors proposing the treatment seemed confident in it.

>All the doctors agreed the baby was beyond saving

Except the doctors who were demanding the treatment be tried.

>This is why private healthcare is fucking terrible, there is nothing stopping hospitals from screwing people over to drain them out of their money.
Exactly. American health care is a racket.

The satanic pedophile cult running Britbongistan loves to kill children.

Once the parents publicized their son's health issues it became even more of a power trip for the despicable demons running that godforsaken country.

Worst part is that the poor kid had to die in that sandnigger infested, rainsoaked excuse of a country. Were they even allowed to bury him, or was he just shipped off to the local kebab shop for processing?

>There was a chance it would have.

Wrong.
There was a slim chance it could have sustained his existence as a paralysed vegetable unable to see, hear or feel for an extra month or so. Nothing more.

Stop trying so hard to justify your socialist faggotry.

The NHS refused to treat him even when treatment looked promising.

standard.co.uk/news/uk/hospital-treating-charlie-gard-seeks-fresh-hearing-for-terminally-ill-baby-after-new-evidence-on-a3582956.html

But he was still responsive. How many times do I have to tell you faggots?

>muh magic treatment

the kid was going to die either way

It's fucking disgusting, watching leafs and broken teethed brits defend this becuase they're so fucking insecure about their little liberal dictatorships.
