I don't think he wanted to be worshipped, when he said he was the son of God I think he meant along the lines of "we are all made in God's image". Except, it does matter based on where the source is comign from. Hitler didn't speak English, nor was Anglo-Saxon so he wouldn't use Wodan.
He was a Catholic, born and raised. This can be attested by his child hood friend (and Mein Kampf). The former wrote a memoir "The Young Hitler I knew" and was in contact with him for the majority of his teenage years and some of his adulthood.
