You'll never see a more dishonest take than Wemple's here. The book is also a good read. She mentions it in the interview but she explains exactly how the news media creates narratives. All reports begin with an objective, and the reporter's jobs are to get clips, information, etc. that support what they are looking for. If there isn't any they just take something similar sounding and act like it's saying what they want.
