The American empire's decline was always going to happen. US was the only power ever WW II not ravaged by war. It controlled all of the water ways and currency at the time, along with spreading bases across the world. However it was never going to last forever. Since the 1970s, US has been declining rapidly into a third world country, and must compensate more and more by building up it's military, however military spending in the 1950s far exceed the military spending we have today, and we spend more than pretty much like the top 20 nations combine.
