Beyond not-honest, the last 72 hours have seen the media frame this violent rabble as a peaceful protest for love and peace or some such nonsense, it's madness that blatant propaganda passes unchecked day by day.
If skinheads were the positive charge in the political atom, antifa are the negative charge. They both live almost exactly in the same fashion. They squat in houses and do drugs while LARPing about fighting some imagined enemy. The biggest difference is skinheads come from working class backgrounds and antifa tend to come from upper-middle class backgrounds. Neither know much about the political ideology they purport to love. They both commit acts of violence against their enemies, though antifa are much weaker physically and will never attack except in groups.

Antifa evolved out of the anti-globalization protests of the '90s, like the Seattle G8 riots. The roots are in the Blac Block anarchist movement. To be clear: Anarchist, not communism or socialism. (I'm not going to give you a history lesson on commies vs anarchist, look it up,yourself, there's lots of history). The blac bloc were the ones dressed in black, wearing masks, breaking starbux windows, throwing tear gas back at cops and generally being violent disruptive shits. (Some were also anti fascist skinheads, a whole other story) But they were marching along with anti-Globalists full of love and peace and anti racism/sexism/etc and eventually it all mingled into the broader movement critics call cultural Marxism. Then the nazi came along. And a core tactic of nazism, propounded by hitler himself in Mein Kampf, is to target a left militant group, incite violence and them blame subsequent violence and chose on that group in order to push calls for fascist order and power. Now, those blac blockers already hate nazis. Even more than they hate globalization. And they like to beat up nazis even more that getting gassed cops. So when nazis started attacking "cultural Marxist", left blac bloc anarchist said fuck you, started lunching nazis. And because the cops don't protect anti-globalist racists/sexist etc cultural Marxists, the peace and love hugging hippies said someone has to protect us from nazis and fascists. So they called themselves anti-fascists, or Antifa. And now everyone has someone to hate.

Antifa was started in the 1930s when the Soviet Union was organizing the various socialist groups in the various European countries into a "Popular Front" movement.

While I am here I will also define communism and neoliberalism. Communists support the abolishment of capitalism and the redistribution of wealth through the state. Neoliberals recognise that communism has always failed so support maintaining capitalism and using the state to heavily tax wealth owners and redistributing the wealth via the government. Both groups seek the genocide of all ethnic groups and traditional cultures, replacing them with a single homogeneous working class ruled over by the political elite. The destruction of southern culture is essential to this goal as history and culture act as barriers to homogeneity, hence the current hard on for Confederacy monuments.

Other than that, antifa is also a somewhat international network of people leaving inside the systme but without being a part of it (squatters and probably some other people that I don't know of). Somehow, internationally connected (I believe it is through mouth to mouth communication, squatters that move, and rave parties).
