Call it being lucky that I have a job in the first place as I don't have a GED.
Walmart pays me $14/hr, at 40 hoirs, but anything after is "volunteer time" as my bosses have unrealistic expectations, and nearly a third of my pay goes towards taxes and other deductions that doesn't go into any savings (I don't have any). It's how it is as I don't have anyone in life to rely on.

I was self employed for 8 years; I made good money, but worked 100 hour weeks, had no time for my wife, and towards the end, our child. Keeping my business successful took a great deal of investment, both in time and effort. It was rewarding.
After the kid was born, I re-assessed my needs and wants, and now I work for 38$/hr at 40 hours a week and all the bills are covered.
Why not? I now have inordinate sums of time to spend with my family, I am able to pursue my hobbies and dreams, and I work remotely from my home in Montana on 11 acres of decent land.

It's more a reference to the people working for low wages in shitty employment. Like $38 an hours is not high, but it's not low either, for a by the hour job that's pretty comfy.
But most people in America do not work for $38 an hour they work for $8 to $20 an hour. The low end of which is unlivable unless your working a lot of hours, and most of them are not, THey're working part time and are on government gibs of some sort.
When people talk wage slavery they're talking about people who work basically to pay bills, rent, buy food and keep working. People whose entire existence is servitude to someone elses profit while they make none of that profit themselves, they stay trapped in what amounts to a subsistence level of employment, without even the personal liberty that subsistence farmer get. Cube slaves and Gas station workers and fast food workers all still have to fit into normal society and conform and obey. Its literally easier and more profitable to be a NEET, you get more money and more by doing nothing crying poverty and maybe even claiming a disability than you do by working honestly at the low end.
Low end employment is such a raw deal that it is literally more sensible to be a leech provided you can find a host. I personally qualifiy for all sorts of free shit, because I am unemployed, income 0, and am argueably disabled. I don't collect anything, because I dislike the the idea, and my(not wealthy) family is willing to support as long as I live on the cheap, which I do aggressively. But for example, If I were to get a shitty job, minimum wage with no benefits, I would lose qualification for a very very complete Health insurance program that I qualify for as an Unemployed NEET.

Disability is pretty attractive. I've been living off tens of thousands in student aid grants/now loans and have some issues that could qualify for disabled status.
