Michael Moore doesn't host Q&A's at universities and allow anybody to attack his position, the received wisdom only goes in one direction because you'd be a nazi to disagree.
For example Dinesh red pilled university students about gay marriage, and why marriage is set up the way it is. It's to reward people who raise families with numerous economic benefits to being married, as raising children is a great cost to bear. Simply tearing up that system is a mistake, it's not as easy as everybody believes if it was then polygamy benefits would exist ect. That's why gays still don't have universal rights across states because there's a shitload of language in very old contracts that need to be changed you can't just willy nilly like Obama tried to do.
I don't know about this book, it's prob filled with well written arguments he usually has those but who knows, so much myths and bullshit about Hitler's regime floating around

So upon quick research, Dinesh's whole argument lies in the origins of Fascism en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Doctrine_of_Fascism and that the two architects Mussolini and his henchman Gentile (plus the fascist movements in France) were both well known to preserve Hegelian and Marxist traditions, while changing some aspects such as removing the idea of individual and replacing with the state as the individual. All fascist regimes in fact were influenced, as were progressives, by Herbert Spencer's interpretation of Darwinism as "survival of the fittest" which National Socialism took to the extreme with eugenics. Here Dinesh tries to tie it together and he's pretty much correct it did start as leftist ideology but it's definitely it's own ideology on neither left or right I'd say.
He also tries to remove nationalism from the idea that it will become 'fascist' as there exists plenty of nationalists who aren't fascists throughout history like Gandhi, king of the designated shitting streets.

Fascism is a third position. It is neither truly left nor right in the common sense, although if you go back to the original idea of left and right politics it is clearly right wing as it respects hierarchy and does not believe in equality. Fascism was invented as a response to Socialism and Communism, by co-opting the movement for worker's rights and containing it within the traditional social order and replacing the internationalism with Nationalism. National Socialism did similarly, although there were major differences in how they structured their economies. If you are aware of all this then you should be aware that the primary goal of fascism is the preservation of the nation, something the Left has seen as inherently evil for a long time now. Everything is subordinated to this end, the specific economic policy was always a compromise to maintain social order and remove the Left's ability to weaponize the classes against one another. Modern Leftists do not want corporatism, they want either total nationalization of industry if they are more left wing or international crony capitalism if they are more neoliberal. I have never seen a modern leftist argue for corporatism, since Peron they all see it as a predecessor to right wing death squads and a co-option of their little struggle towards evil nationalist aims. The modern left would never accept the ordering of economics for the benefit of the nation alone, who would provide gibs for Africa?
