A question for oldfags

A question for oldfags,

I was born at the end of the 90's and of course being a child in the early 2000's was great because I was a child, but for oldfags who were adults in the 80's, 90''s or very early 2000's...were things way better back then? Was it 9/11 which changed everything?

Yeap. 85 here. Life felt a lot different before 2001.

89 here, i felt politics were more Chill back then. Maybe im wrong Because i didnt care that much.

And islamism wasnt really a thing back then.

around 1995-1996 when internet and nintendo 64 happened, it was like a limitless future with pokemon.

then came 9/11 and the kike wars, and youtube facebook tumblr iphones, and with that, came retarded women and niggers on the internet.

then the kikes went full Weimar and white genocide on the west around 2012-ish.

69 here.
Everything was simpler and in some ways more boring bitd.
Sunday's in the 70s every shop was closed, it was a day of rest no question. That is when things changed when we stopped traditional things.

>69

No fuckin way

9/11 made americans way more crazy

social media was good early on, before radfems discovered how it could fool the average woman

steve jobs and the iJew ruined western civilization by making mass communication available to women, who are useless at communicating anything useful

It seemed better in comparison. The truth is that it only seemed better.
The matrix is very old.

can you fuck off back to Sup Forums?

83. 9/11 is really when it changed, though it could have been the election of Bush II (almost certainly those are related somehow).

1970 for me. Yeah, things were definitely more relaxed. Remember when Russia (USSR) really was an existential threat? The 4 minute warning?
As a fellow bong you would also remember strikes, the 3 day week and regular power cuts- all the glories of socialism in the 70's.

74 and yes things were a lot different back in the day. 2001 was a bad year for many things including jobs....major distractions.

00 here. Don't remember jack shit

39 here, things were so comfy with WW2

2010s: best tv/serial shows
2000s: best growth of internet, otherwise wasteland
1990s: good democratic economy, otherwise shit tier
1980s: best action and comedy movies, good music until rap/hair
1970s: best music and drama films, best drugs, cool women
1960s: best sex and stand-up comedy, worst war

The media seemed more reliable. Seemed. Because there was no alternative media besides that weird guy on the corner handing out photocopied fliers.
Catching out a newspaper trying to memory hole something involved going to a library and digging through the stacks, and you still had to have a vague idea of where to start.

'87 here. I honestly feel bad for you. You'll never know freedom.

Yep 89 here, old enough to remember pre 9/11 really clearly. Flying used to fun and easy, life was better, less people gave a fuck about 24 hour news. There was no "muslim" or "refugee" problems. There was a "mexican" problem but the euro homeland seemed safer and it wasnt as bad then so people just weren't as concerned.

mass communications in the 90s really didn't work the way they do now. people used the news differently- they didn't use it as an ideological weapon. they'd watch the local news and then vegetate to random talk shows, soap operas, whatever was on TV. people spoke to each other for no reason at all sometimes. racism didn't exist- it was pretty much extinguished, though the klan had small rallies (that were not very well-covered or acknowledged). niggers had thick skin and couldn't give a fuck what whitey was doing in the 90s, they just smoked their reefer, drank their liquor, and did other nigger things without bothering anybody (unless you went into their neighborhoods). they had their own schools of degeneracy but this was before magnet schools and bussing whites into bad schools to "even things out"

with the mass-adoption of the internet, the wrong people started talking to each other and decided that they all deserved the same rewards as white men without doing the same work that white men have done over the course of history. they feel entitled to what we've built and now they are in the process of ruining it because they don't know how to preserve societies, since they haven't tried and failed to build them as whites did until the 1700s, when we finally got shit just right and had a cultural and industrial explosion

I'm 30. 9/11 happened when I was a sophomore in high school and it really did change a lot about our attitudes...made people MUCH more security minded, it opened up our knowledge about a part of the world nobody cared about, it introduced us to radical Islam, etc. All the obvious stuff.

But actually I suspect it simply accelerated what was going to happen anyway. The mid 90s were one of those unique and fantastic times to exist in America that only come around every 40-50 years. I realize you're Australian but maybe that applies to your country as well.

It's sort of hard to encapsulate. You had this great moderation of political beliefs, prosperity, sense of community, relative ignorance about shitty things happening in the world, cool movies and music, optimism for what the internet would become, vidya that was almost entertaining enough to keep you from going outside to play basketball or have a water fight. Retarded teenagers who thought Jews controlled everything or wanted a cute lil Communist revolution were rightfully ignored.

Nothing like that lasts forever. Even without 9/11 you'd have the anthrax scare, the Madrid bombings, etc. Shit would have changed eventually, we'd all lose trust, etc.

I'm thinking of the Hunter Thompson "Strange memories..." quote about SF in the mid-60s. It very much applies to suburban America in the mid-90s.

I was born in 80. Things were much better before 9/11. I think it has more to do with the internet though. People have become desensitized to porn, violence and really to other people in general.

Everyone can spout their opinions online and someone out there will take it serious. It's like global gossip has become the new sitcoms. And it's just a lot of noise that people didn't have clutttering their minds back then.

People back then focused more on their own personal interests and occasionally some news story would capture everyone's attention for a while but it was never anything dangerous or personal. (Think baby Jessica stuck in a well or Tonya Hardening beating up that other figure skater with the horse teeth). These kind of things were amusing and odd but no one lost sleep over it.

Your opening really is an amazing point

There was no twitter, no youtube, the cellphone in your pocket (if you had one) was a piece of shit, hell maybe you had a pager/beeper?

Even if you saw some shit on the news you just stopped giving a shit, hell if somebody said something crazy, people didnt start a fucking twitter campaign in the universities to change it.

born in 90.

childhood was like a dream world. 9/11 was like your mom waking you up for school from said dream.

The only thing 9/11 did was ruin the news for about 8 years.

"So-9/11-today in the news-9/11-we are going to be -9/11- talking to a man who Thinks-9/119/119/11- that the moon gives of its own lightsorce...9/11911919191919191919191911191919191991911919"

Every..day... they would say 9/11 so FUCKING MUCH that its lost all meaning and made me not care lol

Jesus, lest we forget Terrorist and OSAMMAH BEHNLAWDENnn ever 5 fucking seconds D:<

God damn, shit was worse than commercials getting ever longer and the programs getting smaller.

This is partially correct.

IMO it was around the mid 00's that (((((THEY))))) figured out how to weaponize the internet and use it for manipulation. They perfected it in the 10's

remember unplugging your telephone at the house....people literally enjoyed themselves and each other more than any outside stimuli. I miss the late 80's.

Yup, I think the first WTC bombing and the Waco event as well as a few other things were sort of the "foreshadow" to this future but it didnt really switch over until 9/11. That was the moment the entire world went "welp fug :DDDDDD"

37 here. The 90s were the last good decade.

>threat of sudden total nuclear annihilation gone
>Cold War over
>cool President who plays the sax (later turned out to be less cool)
>economy starting to boom
>awesome cars
>Internet starting to become a thing (and wasn't ruined by idiots yet)
>popular music kicked ass across genres
>video games went 16 bit and then 3D
>optimism everywhere for literally everything

9/11 was like a punch in the gut to everyone who lived through the 90s. Shit is very different now.

then in 2009 that was replaced by "in these tough economic times" in every commercial

And yeah old 3d games look like shit, but at the time the fact they were trying was mind blowing and had everyone stoked, shit like EQ and DAOC were legendary

1980:
There was a slight fear of the soviets and nuclear holocaust, but I miagine it was worse for kids who grew up in the 50s or 60s.
Muslims were just generic bad guys in movies who occasionally just hijacked a plane.
Toy guns looked real, but we weren't stupid enough to point them at cops.
You had to walk or ride your bike to your friend's house, and he might not even had been home.
Your parents had to yell from the front yard to let you know dinner was ready.
We all knew the 30-lives-cheat for Contra.
We all took our cub/boy scout knife to school in case we needed it for apples.
Politically? I first noticed what was to become the crazy SJWs sometime in the early 90s. After the AIDS panic, homosexuality started to be introduced into mainstream culture with Ellen and that kiss on Roseann. I grew up in SC, so it was around this time the confederate flag became a hot issue, and the attack on male institutions with the first woman admitted to the Citadel. But, yes, I'd say things really didn't start to go nuts until the 2000 election/9-11/invasion of Iraq. It's been a leftist feeding frenzy since then.

Born in 1972. Things were much better. I wish I was born in 1958.

Yes, spent most of the early 80s expecting nuke war any day.
I liked the 3 day week and power cuts, it was fun times for a kid.
We should bring it back, once a month have 'turn it all off' day. No electric shit at all, board games and candles.

>mfw the Patriot Act changed the US in a way that we will never recover from
Was okay before '01, especially at the dawn of the consumer internet and all the best consoles.

14 year old kids could buy 1 ounce of gold
with a weekly paycheck from a summer job.

today..

maybe 1 ounce of gold after 3-10 weeks of saving.

2008
CASH FOR GOLD DOT COM!
2017
BUY GOLD ROSLAND CAPITAL!

I say that in direct comparison to now, where the advances in technology made recently should have us at the dawn of even greater age of gaming, hyped beyond our wildest imaginations and although some are working harder to try, we have gamergates failures constantly reminding us SJWs won a large foothold in gaming that has damaged it as an industry (creative quality wise) immensely (see bioware mass effecr andromeda)

This was NOT even ONE OUNCE of a god damn thing in the 90s, the women who did work on games were overwhelming considered talented AS FUCK and were well respected and they didnt go around shitting on men for being straight

I'd suggest Sebastian Junger's recent book called Tribe to anyone in this thread interested in the consequences of our loss of sense of community. Some of it is obvious, and he's a bit of a leftist so he doesn't go into the criminal justice implications as much as he should, but it's still an interesting read. 2.5 hours tops.

I wonder if we will ever reach a time where our minds are at peace again. Perhaps we're just starting to accept the complexity of the world we have created for ourselves and we will eventually go back to simpler things, out of necessity, for our own sake, so we don't die angry, thus for nothing

the difference is:

pre 2001, enemy outside, all together against that thread.

post 2001, enemy within, all against all. mistrust.

I miss IRC, my Warcraft 3 friends, my parents, and the small town community when there still were jobs

Warcraft 2 > gayass newfag Warcraft 3

IRC was, and is, an amazing communications protocol. I still run an IRC server for my lab buddies, and we find it's great (especially since every single operating system has a great client)

we're at least now seeing white men start to stick up for themselves and say "hey, fuck you" in response to some of this shit. more and more people are waking up to the "muh white supremacy" meme being a thinly disguised attack on white men so that we incrementally acquiesce control over what we have taken time to build over centuries

led by fucking white women, who had and still have the best fucking run in life imagineable, because the Jew has used trickery to convince her to be suspicious of loving providers.

82

Ive always said 98 was the last "good year" where shit just moved along like butter and there was still a future and society still had its head on straight.

but 2001 just fucked everything up. culture and mobility music games movies and society in general just shit the bed. Believe it or not people werent always assholes, even on the internet (mostly)

I see kids growing up paranoid and scared and dont have communities to lean on and they know the ones they do are hollow. Theres a boogeyman around every corner and blues clues didnt equip them for it.

I feel bad for those antifa kids but at the same time they dont know any better than to lash out. they are war babies. When I was a kid you would get 40 people together on friday at the mall and get high and cause mischief. These poor things have to hide themselves and rampage just to be acknowledged as people. crazy man.

It was social media that changed everything. The web was around in the 90s and early 2000s but the world remained fairly normal. Then around the mid-2000s social media started to be a big thing, and everything turned to shit.

OP, in the 90s this fucking guy would just be ignored. He'd be your mom's cousin who's "never really gotten his life together" that you see a couple times a year at grandma's house.

I was born in 1967 and I'll hit the big 50 in less than a month.

9/11 changed a lot of things, but it was just the bust after years of pre-millennial optimism.

The 21st Century was meant to be where everything was going to be perfect, with too cheap to meter electricity, electric cars, moon bases and all that good stuff.

That optimism had been building since the wall came down in 1989, we thought that the end of Communism and the ever present threat of nuclear annihilation meant a golden future.

Not looking very golden from here.

It wasn't so much 9/11 that changed anything as the reaction to it with fake wars for oil and the rich exploiting everyone else just to make another billion dollars.

Having said all of that, the Internet is pretty cool.

The situation is snowballing out of controle we rolling down right now.
I really don't think we will die peacfully but this time we have the internet and that changes everything so my only hope is that enough records are left to history and that whatever happens the inevitable attempt at the tempering of the internet's various archives FAILS.
We're making a huge mistake and we're recording it to show our children, don't let them take that away.

In the early 80's, Wizard's BBS was where all the cool kids hung out.

I always appreciate the wisdom from poetic french posts

Still waiting for all that free oil the left told us we were going to get.

in the 90s i was making more money than you would ever dream of, brainlet.

the dot com boom and then diversifying made me very rich very early and as soon as the economy recovered from the worst of the post-9/11 dive i retired

lol your mom's loser cousin who knows nothing about politics is also a secret dot com millionaire. very 90s, well done user.

Born in 85- before 9/11 no one really thought or talked about war much. From that to groups of guys at the corner store talking about which branch they joined up with, overnite.
The biggest thing culturally has been all this racial shit. I've NEVER thought much about race, or heard it discussed among friends/family, until fucking king nigger showed up and set things back 50 years.

I would say yes and yes. Although the technology we have now does offset it somewhat.

born in 1975 here. The 80's were the best, rifles in pickup trucks my freshman year of highschool, I was kinda shocked, but it was the norm, BMX bikes when I was younger, no herbie curbies, we had 55 gallon steel drums, which would be used to make ramps in the ally with, with boards repurposed we had to beat the nails out of. no one said shit. there was no one saying "wear a helmet. REAL fireworks, even in the hellhole of Illinois, M80s, cherry bombs, 8" mortars... yeah no problem. different times, the music just was about having a good time, and kick ass America was the order of the day. Niggers got dropped off in all white neighborhoods by the cops, and got the fuck beat out of them by kids with skateboards. ( canaryville chicago) what is a hate crime? lol.

different era. It all started changing in the mid 90's. Clintons... false flags... OKC... then 9/11... 8 years of the nigger in chief.... :/

Don't ever give up because the internet DOES change things. How would WW1 and 2 have gone down if our ancestors could hear more about what is going on than what they read in a heavily controlled newspaper or heard on the radio?

Think of this, the TV era changed everything again and about 20 years after it did, huge unrest occured (vietnam)

Well the internet is only about 20 odd years old from when it started to hit "full swing" so we're about due for all sorts of trying times where the medium becomes the message again

Lets hope it works out

A lot did change after the 9/11 HOAX: the government became even more intrusive and we started this campaign of endless war. From the 60's up until that point the population was generally against war, and the government had to invent clever lies to start a war.

The internet changed everything. I became redpilled sometime after 9/11. I saw that the government had been doing hoaxes for years, but I just hadn't known about them: Apollo, Gulf of Tonkin.... We've been living in a hoax world for a while but it seems to have gotten even worse. Was that a change or did I just notice it?

People are generally more liberal/stupid/ghey. I used to be a liberal 30 years ago. Now I think libs are retards. We have the greatest tool for research at our fingertips and the kids these days are a bunch of ignorant faggot weaklings that don't want to know the truth.

Culture hasn't really changed that much in the last 20 years, (besides becoming more extremely liberal). If you look at the move "Woodstock", there was a band called "sha na na" that performed. They were a 50's retro band, with the pompadore haircuts etc... They were a stark contrast to every other band that was performing at Woodstock. But that style of music was only 10 years old at that time.

Think back 10 years. Was music different? No. Everything was pretty much exactly the same. This seems to be the general trend: that culture has stagnated and people have become grossly retarded.

As you can see, OP, there have always been low IQ crazies, but they were never given a platform. this is the biggest problem with our culture right now. People have lost their ability to filter out baseless bullshit.

Shit was different in 07 though

Mid-90's. Access to the internet changed everything.

Musically speaking that is

Maybe not everything THAT different though, which is a fair point. But it was different

Go fuck yourself nigger lover

You're on to something there.
>tfw caught between being a tech/scifi enthusiast and a cynical Luddite

tell us where your moms cousin touched you

The 90's were unbelievably comfy. Nobody gave a fuck about anything, people wore whatever they wanted, fads came and went at the drop of a needle. Saddam started some shit and we finished it without a scratch. The world was an oyster and everybody was having a blast.

Then 9/11 happened.

Everything became political. Everything became offensive. People started developing victim complexes. And it's only been getting worse. Just what the fuck.

The only good thing to come out of this shitty timeline is the explosion of excessively degenerate furry porn. I can find any fetish, whether it be extreme or mild. The advent of sites like e621, Inbunny, and 4+Sup Forums's /fur/ made sure of that.

can confirm. it was a decade of optimism and peace. islam was dismissed as quaint sand-people and rock worshippers.
political correctness was around back then but widely mocked. making fun of fat people and homos was commonplace on tv.

I don't agree with the assumption that culture is always going to be moving forward and changing. Maybe it's stagnated because we've reached the end and there's nowhere for culture to go.

The internet didn't really hit full swing until about 2002. Nothing was the same after that year.

Everything was perfect. Everybody had money to do/get anything. School was better (fun), halloween was taken seriously and enjoyed by every kid (hardly any more trick-or-treaters), christmas was widely celebrated and filled the air with christmas spirit, toys and socio-culture was far better, boys will be boys and girls will be girls was a legitimate excuse. Everything emmediately went down hill after the financial crises. But 9/11 was the start

Born mid 60s. Life was more parochial. Even the cities were just large villages banded together. People were poor, even the middle classes were thrifty. Streetlife was agressive; lots of fights. Cops were crooks in uniform. Everybody hated everyone else and foreigners were universally despised. But...People looked out for each other more and everyone had a sense, when the fighting and squabbling stopped, of US. Of belonging to something greater than us and worth preserving The WW1 and WW2 generation were still around to remind us of better days and to instruct us. When they died off this country became a place with no sense of belonging. It simply ceased to exist and became one enormous gypsy camp full of transients.

80s were amazing.
Early 90s were pretty cool too.
Late 90s were rather lame but enjoyable.
New century turned to shit after 9/11. It's getting better.

...

the internet literally ruined everything

Yea, it was a lot better.

If we went full bust with nuclear power electricity would practically be free, electric cars would be everywhere, emissions would be at an all time low. You can thank environmentalists for being stupid enough to think the Simpsons are an accurate representation of how nuclear plants work, and thus protesting every goddamn proposal to switch to full nuclear.

yes

user born 1981 here. you could breathe freely and honestly pre 2000. sure a few liberties were infringed now and then but usually to a simple extent. post modernist marxism or politics in general hadn't infected everything. then everything turnt to shit. war without end and a continiuous erosion of our liberties and culture. a distortion of reality by throwing truth out the window. we truely live in sick times. it's the reason i luck here and to be honest i long to return to my childhood when i die back to the better times. i long to escape the decay.. i hope it will get better but the peak of civilization has past and sadly young anons you missed it.

Loved the south side back in the day. Oh how things have changed...

It was less 9/11 and more what 9/11 brought on.
Within a few months for most people we were back to normal except when the news was on. Then the truthers which people thought were just wackjobs until the reports came out, but people were terrified of speaking out about it and stuck their heads in the sand.
What really ruined everything was Afghanistan and Iraq. Iraq especially.

88:
Coming out of the tail end of the 80's into the beginning of the next decade you can begin to track the hyper-usual social parameters start to mesh with intragovernmental computational advancement. Pre 70's our connective technology as a whole was new, slow, bloated, and pushed along by governmental and corporate interests. These bastions of controlled advancement would trickle down the technology at a snail's pace until the layman ostensibly had the incentive to place himself in the race on his own diligence. From the early CES unveilings of the VCR to the explosion of the ease of entry into independent content making via betacams/camcorders/ hot swappable recording methods, made the somewhat brooding ability of the state to control culture almost impossible. There was almost a frantic like state of computational advancement from about 1991 to 1996 when the world finally got a glimpse of how it would be fully connected. Larger means of storage on things like minidiscs / dvd's / zip drives. Video game systems that were way more powerful than PC's and some were even utilized in military simulation utilizing powerful processing units that were linked by a burgeoning internet. Things got rather interesting once the social paradigm as a whole began to have the ability to posture behind closed doors - at a rapid rate constantly connected by modems, endless cable channels and the ability to communicate across the planet without ever meeting. You can certainly bring up convenience, but once computation doubles one can basically proclaim " I have made it to the future, I am in control". 9/11, the new security epoch and the 21st-century hyper-connectedness have made that all a delusion.
I feel as though the nostalgia of the 20th century has burned into our minds so well because it was so well marketed and orchestrated. We even marketed our world wars and atrocities to the click of a galvanizing soundtrack that spans the time our youth. Every decade is a racket.

I donno.. is it better to be red pilled or living in the happy mass hysteria?

1960-1970s: Commies were so bad they couldn't get a security clearance. You knew that the commies were your enemy, homosexuality was still outlawed in many places, some states still outlawed interracial marriage, there were race riots and talk of either paying them 10% of the GDP or stopping the riots with extreme prejudice, birth control was new so the traditional marriage was still around and adultery was illegal most places and fornication illegal in many states...

Few knew about the central bankers and the Federal Reserve. Nazis were almost as bad a communist but the KKK seemed to get some social acceptance.

Grandpa said racist things that upset me but 50 years later I see he was 100% dead on right about everything.

>Born in the early 2000's
Come back when you're old enough to post.

81here. Life was sweet before 9/11 and especially the iraq war. The late 80s and 90s were simpler, more innocent times.

i was born in 96, you faggot, learn to read

>Was it 9/11 which changed everything?

The Supreme Court selecting George W. Bush for president and installing the Cheney administration changed everything. 9/11 set it in stone. Burning through $6 trillion in cash ensured the financial destruction of the American Dream for the entire world. There was a very strong assist from Russia during the late 1990s and through this time frame as the entire post-Soviet sphere of influence collapsed into a collection of 3rd world crime cartels, held together by a political class wielding nuclear weapons.

These events are intimately interlinked and set the blueprint for the world we live in today.

This is a very over-simplified macro-level overlook. Certainly there are many other factors, but allowing the Soviet Union to collapse into a feudal collection of crime organizations was always an incredibly stupid idea, but the Reagan & GHW Bush administrations thought this was a "good plan," so that trainwreck went off the rails with virtually no response. There is so much other history to cover that flows outward from that that there isn't any way to discuss it in any environment like Sup Forums.

But, shit was falling apart worldwide with a veneer of "everything is just fine" from the late 1980s through the 1990s. In the United States, life was very decent (especially compared to today). Even with ups & downs that fucked the job market around, turned health insurance into a criminal racket to break everyone into poverty and some other shit, most people experienced the cruise control of decent wealth & quality of life.

And then the Cheney administration decided to rape the country. The entire administration should have been relieved of command for allowing 9/11 to happen. It was entirely preventable, and they fucked up so they could loot the treasury. Game over. America died and today we're feasting on the rotting corpse.

>Was it 9/11 which changed everything?
1990. Things have been downhill since.

The 80's and 90's were not perfect, but they were a lot better than now. Parents used to trust their kids to walk to school alone 1-2 miles. Now that is unheard of.

It's too bewildering to try to explain. I think technology has slowly alienated and dehumanized us. The older I get, the more I realize Kaczynski was right.

I dont know man, although I was from 97' and never experienced the good ol' days. I could clearly see a shift. Some of you guys are older than my parents...

Well my parents used to talk about how people actually talked to each other. And that people went out and did shit. Shit was cheaper as well back then and they would have to buy cigarettes for their parents. No one had a mobile phone and me who essentially grew up in the 00s still have vivid memories of running around in the neighborhood, making up shitty games and playing around with random kids.

For me the big shift in my era was the release of the iPhone/iPod touch, it was marketed as a status symbol and kids who used to be fun and liked to play around suddenly were staring at their screens half the time. Social media as well seemed to cause a big problem with it essentially being a giant dick measuring competition (causing me to unironically spiral into depression).

Then ofcourse since social media is an endless dick measuring competition, we got all the fucking assholes showing off their lives on the internet. And since the assholes were cool and even the biggest losers have always dreamt of being cool people started to copy those assholes which in turn leads to even more assholes.

Life became a competition, a struggle and a race. It used to be about having fun, seeing sights.

Also yes after 9/11 a lot of red tape was being strung around.

I'd suck OPs dick to be born 20 years earlier...

the kikes are getting better at mimicking us

"as you can see OP" what the fuck is wrong with you

That pic should be fuck right? Not unfuck?

>mfw the term oldfag has entirely new meaning now apparently and does not refer to how long a person has been lurking
when did this happen exactly?

The 90s were better.

When this site was flooded 5 years ago.

Bastards always done their power cuts 30 mins before Dr Who. I hated anyone who was a striker back then.

things were different. things were better in a way, but they weren't "good" and they were getting worse

we've been approaching a reckoning for decades

before 9/11 we didn't have terrorism concerns, existential war concerns like we do now, but most people are still very much oblivious of the dangers today

No way senpai 5 years ago I didn't see old people called oldfags. It has to be much more recent.

Can confirm that things went to shit after 2001. 2010s have been so-so

I think the feeling of more to live for overshadowed by the paranoia that the Rushkies could end it all at any point is far preferable to this slow death and just living for the next meme
