Evidence points to drugs having been part of the early trade across continental europe, things like opium for instance. We have a rough view of the last 10 000 years of economic history from a high level.

The name ephedrine (and pseudoephedrine) comes from the genus ephedra. The chinks have apparently been using Ephedra sinica since milennia. I doubt it was isolated until the mid 20th century, but that's just a rough guess

I think the thought with doing a troop surge in Afghanistan again is that if the Taliban take control of the country again they and their allies will have a nice staging area to start doing large scale attacks on America again.
Bombing Assad is absolutely moronic though.

1. We oppose democracy. 2. We oppose terrorists. FSA is a terrorist organization. That's how its eastern divisions ended up becoming ISIS. When you choose terrorism, you get terrorist membership. 3. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syrian_presidential_election,_2014

Is it? Your ancestors fought and died for freedom. You should be grateful for their sacrifice.
1. Then you're a moron. You'd rather by governed by a tyrant who gasses people for protesting? 2. FSA may be, but the SDF is not. I support them and their fight for a democratic Syria. 3. Are you serious? That was rigged as hell.

i dont know if its related to the discussion but i heard somewhere that japs were on huge amounts of ephedrine during WW2 both for its energy boosting capabilities and for making the blood very thick so that when they were hit by a bullet they could continue fighting a couple more seconds before they died. does seem like broscience but i wanted to share it
Since nobody's asking I should probably explain why I'm a neoconservative and correct your misconceptions.
As a neocon, I believe that free people, free governments and free markets are essential for human excellence. Tyrants and terrorists are the enemies of mankind and must be fought at every turn. It's that kind of attitude that freed the people of America and Europe from the tyranny of kinds, destroyed the genocidal Nazi menace and ended the Cold War. Time and time again it has been proven that alternatives to democracy and free markets only end in suffering and must be destroyed.
America is a nation founded on the great liberal principle that all men are equal and worthy of dignity and a fair chance in life. As the undisputed superpower and leader of the free peoples of the world, it is the duty of America to promote these values and protect human rights.
It is this noble goal that has led us to oppose the murderous Bashar al-Assad, who gasses his people and shoots innocent protesters. Nobody can honestly argue that he is preferable to democracy in Syria. Yes, Islamic terrorists are a problem, but we must fight them too in order to secure Syria's freedom.
We neoconservatives understand that the road to freedom can be challenging, and that it may take a long time. That does not matter. It is not optional. We MUST secure freedom for the peoples of the world. Our sense of right and wrong compels this. If a thousand Americans must die so that millions of Syrians can be free - that is a sacrifice that is worthy of being made.
Isolationists and apologists for dictators have never one. You people defended Hitler, the Nazis, Hussein and now Assad. You fetishize authority and glorify in the suffering of the innocent. It is you - not I - who should be ashamed of your ideology,
