I love Texas and I want to help you while I get my foot in the door for a new career at the same time. Any Texas contractors in the house that need more hands?

Does not matter, you need to get as far away from the buffalo bayou as possible - as it will be a channel for the water but it also wont be able to channel it also so surrounding areas will be effective.
Dont care if you need to abandon everything and risk it swimming, the further you are from the bayou the safer you will be.

You either have a surge or tidal wave coming towards you - maybe even both.
No official source, that's just the time it takes to spill over according to the steadily rising water levels. But it's probably a bit off, since the weather is going to get worse. And it's an earthen damn. When the water starts spilling over, there's a possibility that it's going to start washing the ground away and that can lead to a total failure. Just like with Oroville spillway.

They release water to reduce the pressure. This will flood houses in affected areas. The alternative (according to theory) is to prevent the dam to break and affect even larger areas.
