We've had infrastructure problems here in the states for a while now.
The Katrina levy failure and the bridge collapse in Minnesota are notable. Since then we've passed legislation to do more thourough checks on potential failures due to people complaining.
I'm electrical, not civil, but I would guess that not many things built back in the day were built to withstand 500 year floods.
Could be wrong, but I'm going with my gut and saying that at least some damage is certainly a worry for the guys who are monitoring it now.
