I've lived in FL my entire life. Been through around 7 and for the most part they have either missed a direct hit or have been rather mild. The worst was the 3 hurricanes we caught in a row in 2005. Was out of power for 2 weeks. Water didn't get restored for about a week.
It's funny, because if someone dies in a hurricane it's some stupid surfer(s), or some hold people having a heart attack.

If the altitude data in google earth is correct, the dam is only 108 ft along that part and the roads around there should be flooded, and it looks like they are.
Basically it's not a small "concrete lined spillway" but a large area of low dam where the water can flow over the dam.
