Zavala is from PAN, Peña is from PRI. PRI, although economically benefient, has been a fucking mess in social issues, and it welcomed back the corruption so characteriztic of pre-2000s mexican politics. Not to say they are not corrupt now, they were just not as transparently and cinically corrupt. PAN actually made a bunch of good transparecy reforms, which are the reason why like every single PRI governor is being investigated for money laundering and stupid amounts of embezelment even under a PRI president. They thought they could play the same tricks they used to do, but they were too old and stuborn to come with new and less proffitable embezelment schemeze but more legal also.

They diversified it. Currently, manufacturing is our primary export good, and our economy has grown massivly since 1990. Mexicana de Aviacion crashed with the 2008, mostly suplanted by Interjet and Aeromexico, Telmex is still rolling, a monopoly here and growing internationally, in the US and otherwise. Luz y Fuerza was a corrupt shithole suplanted with another state-run corrupt shithole, Comission Federal de Electricidad or CFE. Ferrocarriles has indeed suffered, and its a tragedy. Now, as to other local manufacturers, most are in the electronics sector, like Lanix, or in the food sector, like Bimbo. Farming has grown a stupid amount too. I think that this year is the first one in centuries where we export more food than what we import. Most of the illegals send most of the money they win home, and their sons and family in turn use it to develop their regions and make them productive (considering that the regions where illegal immigrants come from are usually the more undeveloped). This has lead to a reduced rate of permanent immigration, with most people eventually comming back to Mexico (hence why some people quote the net migration with mexico being close to zero, mostly everyone is starting to come back instead of staying as they used to). This also has had the effect that we are getting a retarded ammount of STEM graduates atm, three times more than a couple of years ago: timeshighereducation.com/news/engineering-graduate-numbers-triple-mexico. All in all, in a couple of decades we will probably have developed most of the shithole areas of the country, if proyections are to be belived. Yes, ofc. manufacturing for the foreign market became easier, ensuring more jobs, ensuring the growth of the middle class and thus more spenders which in turn bought american made shit. Seriously, we buy more of your shit than china does, and china has 20 times our population. you gotta remember that mexicans are not niggers and we are developing a stable middle class thanks to the cash flow. Yes and no. We started buying more american goods, but they were mostly proceced foods and electronics, considering we buy our own cars and produce our own energy (mostly, not gasoline though, although the centers for that are not in the rust belt). It hitted the auto industry the worse, and mostly stimulated growth in other areas. The issue was that it was to radical a change and didnt account for a stable move towards other industries in the states that depended on those industries to survive, which adding the global decrease in coal usage (not stealing any of that here, we dont mine coal) and the 2008 crisis, yeah the guys in the rust belt have gone through a lot.
