For those of you who've bored out on the Mueller probe, what's essentially happening now is that Mueller is really grasping at straws. He's partnered with IRS investigators which will give him access to all of Trump, and Trump affiliate's tax returns.
At this point they have nothing on Trump himself but are trying to find something to get someone in his family, presumably Kushner. He may already even have something on Kushner. The idea would then be to try and force Trump out or to play ball with the establishment or else Kushner goes down. This is all a long shot of course, but what is painfully obvious now is that they're not even going after Trump anymore, they're just trying to get someone close to him for leverage on Trump.
If they don't get anything, expect some embarrassing leaks at least. Don't be surprised if Trump's tax returns ends up at the WaPo in the next week or two.
