War and Glory

For centuries war was synonymous with glory and honor, but now it's only associated with death and suffering. Even in ancient times they understood war is hell, but they still celebrated great warriors and commanders.

Alexander the Great conquered the known world. Julius Caesar conquered Gaul. William the Conqueror took over England.

Each man was celebrated in his time, and is still celebrated in history.

So what changed?

Is it just another example of the feminization of society? How we went from grand battle, to dueling, and now we can't even have fist fights without someone getting sued.

Or is it something else? The nature of war being changed with modern weapons. You see a massive shift start with the American Civil War and completed after World War I.

Did society/cultures, the nature of war, or the men fighting change?

this place really is dead isn't it?

its the loss of tribal instinct and the death of nationalism.

those wars were fought to better something (the country/ the religion), gather resources, or fight for survival(muslim conquests of byzantine, the reconquista, the fall of rome).
this made it much easier to justify war and people went along with it because it was seen as necessary and simply the way the world worked.
now people have more rights and freedoms, most don't even gather their own food beyond driving to the supermarket. people no longer see it as necessary.

then there's the evolution of communications technology.
back then a war was something most peasants didn't get to see only heard about second hand. now you can go on live leak and watch isis member behead people or americans fire drones into trucks full of brown kids.
its a lot easier for everyone see the horrors of war in its entirety this makes it much easier to make war look worse and even harder to justify to the masses.

finally people stopped caring about bettering their own people and country in favor of resting on their laurels and staring at the kardassians or blacked porn on their phones. people care more about their own hedonistic desires the doing what is necessary.

>So what changed?
War changed. Before you marched in peace and quiet until you met the enemy, then a brief very deadly fight occurred, and then you went home.

In today's wars you stay for years in some hellhole constantly in a state of danger not quite as intense as the old battles, but still too dangerous to let your guard down. Not to mention that no longer is life and death determined by your skill on the battlefield, but rather by whether that stray bullet is two inches to the left or not.

>Did society/cultures, the nature of war, or the men fighting change?
obviously the nature of war changed. if you cannot see that then you are 12 and should be in middle school right now.
society and culture also obviously changed. is that really a question, man? and with society/culture changing, people change. it is a large and complex issue. you are much better off picking up a book.

This is all incorrect and you might have down syndrome. The attitudes towards war changed when war became about hiding in a hole trying to survive an artillery barrage. War isn't the same as it was since pre 20th century.

because your post was so good that a lack of replies MUST mean this place is dead.

OP being a massive faggot as usual

>then you went home.

Nigga you don't know shit do you? The only reason Alexander stopped at India was because his army was tired of fighting for 10 years straight and wanted to go home. The Romans fought years long campaigns in Gaul and Germany. You had to walk everywhere which took ages compared to the vehicles we have today.

Okay fine, you didn't go home, but unless you were in a siege the battles were generally short but intense.

>literally just said all of that

I'm putting those in question for to open this up for conversation instead of just dictating that in the OP. Obviously things changed, but was it only those things or was there more? Did something else happen? How did those things changed exactly? What other effects have those changes had on the world? Etc...

As always, its kikes.
The suck in war so they branded it as something horrible.
See its much better for them to resolve conflicts via diplomacy(lies) and economics(theft)
things they excel in

There is no people and no reason for war, espicially not as servants of Jews and Capitalist profits.

>resolve conflicts via diplomacy

What conflicts have been resolved with diplomacy aside from the Cuban Missile Crisis in the last 100 years?

>Warmongering amerimutt makes this tread

Every fucking time.

Leftypol psyop

Fag

I'm just trying to understand how/why war became such a negative thing. I mean, the concept of "War Hero" doesn't even exist any more.

where?

Yes it does we still give the medal of honour and glorify the elites like rangers or seals

>dying for the Jews isnt gloriouams fighting to spread their power
Only war that is juatifiable to be collwctive are wars of defense thus the necessity to create invaders and broadcaat the threat.

>This is all incorrect and you might have down syndrome.
starting with ad hominem is a good sign.

>The attitudes towards war changed when war became about hiding in a hole trying to survive an artillery barrage.
the methods and perception may have changed but at the end of the day war doesn't change. how would hiding in a trench waiting to get blown up be different then marching towards a horde of people and hoping you don't get your skull caved in immediately.

they didn't have gopros so people couldn't see what actual war was like.

There is 0 reason for war, only thing that exists is personal profit in these states.

Wa... wa...wa war never changes guys... oh shit IDF!!!!

Sure, but you could name multiple WWII Generals, but can you name any from Vietnam? Iraq? Afghanistan? Not even generals, just notable soldiers.

We have no Pattons. No MacArthurs, no Montgomerys, No Eisenhowers. No Caesars, No Alexanders.

All of our heroes are gone.

youtube.com/watch?v=jAeoW2IS3g0

Lol no i couldnt im not a history fag. Tim Kennedy is one that comes to mind for Iraq and Afghanistan

this isn't entirely wrong. but it's all about perception.

it was a lot easier for a king with "divine rights" to make a bunch of barely literate peasants kill each other then it is to make a bunch of people with full access to all info on almost every aspect of what's happening and 24/7 media coverage.

nice argument kid

We have Mad Dog Mattis.

>Is it just another example of the feminization of society?
Yes.
Modern men sing the virtues of tolerance and diversity while their women and children are being raped and killed. Only 70 years ago we were setting entire continents on fire, now look at us.

The modern man lacks real meaning in his life. I think this is one of the reasons why so many young men are infatuated with the early 20th century.

Your the one comparing standing armies clubing and hacking each other to death to a bunch of soldiers sitting in a fob doing nothing most days but playing xbox being rained on by soviet era mortars

>Mad Dog Mattis
>Married to the Marine Corp Mattis
>Supporter of "Don't ask, don't tell" being ended Mattis
>Let's have trannies in the military Mattis
>Let's integrate females into combat units Mattis
>Let's hold off on the tranny ban until the studies are done Mattis

That closeted faggot can fuck off. And that's from someone going into the Marines soon.

nature of war changed: running towards your opponents with a spear or sword and piercing/cutting his flesh with his blood painting your body red is certainly different than shooting someone from a hundred metres away or calling an airstike
at the same time you have to constantly be careful noone is airstriking you
and regardless you like it or not we're heavily globalized and what happens on one side of a planet may affect you aswell, which is why you can't exactly have a civil war to say, because eveyone eles military will be over your arse in an hours
everything is tied togheter, if a war breaks out it will be complete hell tough, as gruesome as you can imagine, otherwise the only wars we'll have will be of "terroristic" nature where some Sven will pull a breivik, or Abdul getting some peace trucks into crowds, at least that's what i bet on, the only exceptions are AI or biological catastrophes

again methods may change but the end reults and the the underlying point is the same.

those same people firing those "soviet era" mortars are getting rained on by drones that they can't see until it's too late.

all that's happened is it it went from people beating each other with clubs and flinging rocks and half rotten cows over a wall to firing a rifle from a mile away and firing rockets into a city from a continent away

That picture was unexpectedly emotional. Bravo to whoever made it.

>And that's from someone going into the Marines soon.

Shut the fuck up.

...

Until you've been through it you're fucking worthless.

fair enough.
