We never fought a true war. A states war. In face we haven't fought a states war since WWII. If we truest wanted to go in a wipe them out, civilian casualties be damned we could. But we always play nice. That is our weakness.
The goal wasn't to take over, it was to destabilize the nation and spread infighting among shias, sunnis and kurds, while the government in Baghdad is weak and depends on foreign support. That's what Saudis and Israeli wanted.

We lost the Iraq war? When? The primary (stated) goal of the Iraq war was to topple the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein and prevent him from doing pretty much what North Korea is doing right now. I'm not saying the original goals were intelligent or based on fact but we did topple Saddam's regime and prevented him from getting access to WMD's. In fact, I think we toppled Saddam's forces in about one week and then found him hiding in a hole a couple of weeks later. He was executed (hung) publicly. So to say we 'lost' the war is just false. The left likes to say we are constantly losing every war. Have you noticed that it's only since the 1960's that we have been hearing about how we are losing every single war? This is about the same time demographic changes were revving up and cultural marxism became a major specter in the west.

We lost influence in Iraq AFTER THE IRAQ WAR WAS WON because for for almost ten years Obama withdrew troops from Iraq and diminished our influence. If we had maintained a strong military presence there (which is typically what should be done after you decimate a country) this would not have happened.
