Build Fighters

That's an oxymoron. There was no good Gundam.

Do people really like these shows for anything but the robots?

Are there any good Gundam series at all? I watched a few stand alone series knowing that they're considered bad and they were. Then I watched 0079, but it was bad too. I don't want to sit through hundreds of episodes of shit to chronologically arrive at a good series, but there must be SOME reason for the ongoing popularity of the franchise.

I watched for best girl.

00

Is Ironblooded Orphans that bad?
It just felt like a grimdark less good TTGL to me

Thunderbolt

TV: 00
Other: Unicorn

G.

It's not SEED Destiny bad, but due to the pacing of the writing it just feels dull. The mobile suit fights weren't all that impressive looking either

this so much, only 4 episodes but its what a mech show should be like

When we say series, are we talking TV series or OVA series as well?

0079

G-Reco

I think the best part was that they fleshed out the backstories of the two main characters in episode 2 without resorting to a long monologue.

0083

Brutha

IBO was the most recent good gundam. Actually, not good. Great is a better word.

Hating IBO is just a meme from bitter /m/-fags who wouldn't know a quality show if it hit them in the face.

Nu>Hi-Nu

Music. Don't forget the music, fampasan

>meme gundam

kindly fuck off back to /m/ please

00 was great, just don't watch the movie >_> Unicorn was quite good as a reboot/sequel of the original series

Maybe try 0080. It's short, sweet and doesn't insult your intellegence aka no psychic and space magic asspulls

This was the last good Gundam series, OP.

IBO

fyi, /m/ deliberately shit on IBO because it's written by Mari OKADA.

She's related to this OKADA btw

Build Fighters

Origin and Thunderbolt unless you count OVAs

>Want to give BF perfect scores
>Reiji uses Build Knuckle too often

A bit formulaic is its only flaw. The rests are just pure enjoyment, especially for a long time gundam fan like myself

Also, sweet gundumb flamenco

fan fiction tier.

putting itano circus in a UC Gundam story.

First, no matter what /m/ says, there's only one true Gundam canon, and that is UC spanning the life of Amuro and Char. Everything else is non-canon fanfiction.

The original Mobile Suit Gundam is great, as is most Gundam done in the 80's. For the '90s you have 0083. This is really when good Gundam ends.

There are other series with "Gundam" in it that are fun, like G Gundam, but I consider things like this (or Turn A, SD Force/Build Fighters) as parodies. Anything that tries to imitate the ideas of the original has failed. Any new installments in UC are bad.

"Gundam" is a finished product. It was finished over two decades ago.

That animation is amateurish and souless too. It doesn't look like legit itano circus but a clear imitation.

This is what Gundam has become.

IBO was alright. 00 S1 was really good. SEED is the best

>0083
>Great

Pretty sure many would disagree with you due to cuck factor

Also,

>Turn A
>Parodies

Good thing I despise /m/orons so it doesn't trigger me

imho, IBO lacked punch. Kudelia and space boat arc are the main problem. Mcgillis' betrayal was pretty sweet tho

That seems fair. It felt pretty different from the formula of most Gundam series I've seen though

This. The backstories of the main characters were conveyed very well through the flashbacks.

It honestly started off with me feeling like the roles had been reversed. The pilot of the Gundam was some dick hole ace pilot with some kind of twisted family connections, while the Souped-up Zaku Custom pilot was a downtrodden young man who'd personally lost friends to the Feddy pilot and had his own legs blown off in military service.

The more the series goes on, though, the more it becomes clear that these two very different people have a great deal in common, and that neither of their sides are necessarily the correct side. It's a very engaging story with some strong themes. I wish we could have more anime like this in general, to say nothing of Mecha.

Thunderbolt was great to me because the mecha were the least important part of the story. It was the people in the mecha that were important.

Personally, I'm glad Thunderbolt OVA ended with Psyco VS FAG showdown

The space buddhist arc is pretty terrible, plus Atlas gundam looks pretty retarded and out of place

Itano worked on the original Gundam

G-saviour famalam

Jap fans are okay with G-Savior

>but there must be SOME reason for the ongoing popularity of the franchise.

Sweet ass model kits.

But that's just Kira with blond hair

Did you not see 0083?

Most of the Seed and Destiny cast is just Kira is different wigs. Same with Heroic Age.

IBO is a decent gundam show user, dont just jump in the hate train.

Mikazuki is what inaho should be, well given mikazuki's circumstances his personality makes more sense.

>Then I watched 0079, but it was bad too
user, I'm sorry
Your incredible amount of shit taste is uncurable

user making sense in Sup Forums ? wtf happened.

and yes i wonder how /m/ shits so much on IBO, as much as "its not g reco" argument goes, it is true though, g reco is pretty shit.

i see the great /m/ has become shit.

nothing of value was lost.

I still don't get what the guy was smoking when he designed this.

Please don't remind me that

I fap regularly to Meer

>Sunrise: "Go nuts"
>Author: "m'kay"

It's practically an AU, who cares.
What's important is that Thunderbolt tells a good war story with well executed characterisation in just 4 episodes.

If this was like a base mech, like the Liger without its armor, and they were planning on adding extra armor and shit, I wouldn't mind it. But after those awesomely hefty designs and the dust covers, this feels like a large middle finger.

Pretty much.

otakumode.com/news/52fc76ef80cd488c6b00068f/Interview-with-Mobile-Suit-Gundam-Thunderbolt-Author-Yasuo-Ohtagaki-3-3

>In the beginning, I told them that I wanted to be able to work freely, even if that meant it wasn’t part of the Gundam canon, and they told me I could do what I want.

The source material is an AU.

>All dem beams and missiles, also 2 SHIELDS
>Loses to a Nick Vujicic with shit taste in music

Fed dude's an embarrassment to humanity

So what's the in universe explanation for this design? The dust covers and shields were because of the debris and shit, so why this? Were they inspired by the high mobility capabilities of the Psyco Zaku?

It's a Ball with modular Gundam parts
Io's whole thing always seemed to be the revenge of the grunt

>Loses to a Nick Vujicic with shit taste in music

I haven't watched the final OVA yet, but I keep seeing people say he lost. Did the OVA change something about the ending, because in the manga it's a double KO.

>The dust covers and shields were because of the debris and shit,

Actually, that wasn't just for the thunderbolt sector. All the designs in thunderbolt (At least the space designs) are like that. Stuff like the GM in thunderbolt is literally just a nromal GM in that setting. Same with the Zaku, Gelgoog, etc.

And iirc the idea behind the Atlas is that it a highly mobile and responsive MS (hence the free moving balljoints) and it is designed to be highly modular. As shows the core is actually based on the Ball.

So it's a fancier B-Gundam.

I hate the fact that it's designated with the RX-78.

It's the furthest thing from an RX series suit you can get. Would've been way cooler if it's part of the RB series or something

It's still the same. Io loses because the Zeek reinforcements show up and he gets captured along with the remnants of the Moore Brotherhood.
He's a slippery one though. I hope there is a Thunderbolt 2 just to see its rendition of A Baoa Qu and Bianca animated

Hahaha. This is amazing

Yeah, but that's not so much "Io lost". That's a zeon force doing mop up on a concluded battle.

Especially insulting though was that the main EF fleet is literally parked right outside the zone and instead of sending reinforcements they're waiting for Zeon to leave so that they can move through unopposed to A Baoa Qu.

Is she gonna win?

Perhaps not, this a Jap comic afterall

Thunderbolt.

Seed

Here's a hoping that the show does well among western viewers

No kiddy tier politic
No newtype bullshit
Manly battles and jazzy goodness only

Spiritual understanding and karmic deaths are pretty tired eastern concepts anyway

Can you explain what was good about it, other than the obligation some people feel to worship old, influential series? It felt like a children's show because it is one. If you're not that into fighting robots there's no appeal.

>jazzy goodness only

OST release in June, get ready.

please die

oh wait this is Sup Forums where everyone has the shittiest taste imaginable

guess ill fuck off to /m/ now

/m/ has discussed seed constantly for years. If you're looking to get away from seed you're going to the wrong board.

00 Movie was the last truly great Gundam. Buildfighters, Unicorn and Thunderbolt are alright though.

oh man user you just made my night. I thought it wouldn't have any soundtrack release since it was a webshow and hadn't bothered to check since it ended.

>I hope there is a Thunderbolt 2
God forbid. The monk subplot is so retarded it makes Fukuda look smart.

I hated it when i first saw this exact picture but after reading the manga, the Atlas is so fucking based.

Origin's great, what are you on about

IBO, also go back to /m/ you trash

>It just felt like a grimdark less good TTGL to me
>TTGL
Worst comparison ever.

Dis

If it were to my high standards, SEED. As much as it plagiarized 0079, the fact that it did actually made it good, plus the songs.

The thing is about everything else post-SEED apart from Destiny, they're all good with some major flaw holding them back (00 was too character driven, AGE was childish, BF and BFT were just too formulaic and the direction in Reconquista in G was a bit of a clusterfuck).

The design looks like shit but I almost want to excuse it with a " they were trying new things " sorta attitude. I mean the new psycho frames they captures were just zakus in dresses. I feel that the Introduction of the first psy-frame sorta lead to a push on any current experimental production.

100% total head canon for sure but I see it happen all the time in real life. Something Shiney and new comes out and the other side pushes out crap without fleshing it out just to one up.

Also makes sense why the design never caught on since the result of that escort mission. The gun was awesome though

Code Geass

Last good Gundam series? Macross Delta.

Maybe a certain network for cartoons will pick it up

Build Fighter

Yeah, cults kinda turn me off but I can't hate them for adding a 3rd party to the mix of fedi vs zeon

Who are you mad at, user?

No /m/orons here. Otherwise, this thread will be full of Recturdfags saying G-reco is gud

Victory Gundam

Depends on your definition of good. The last Gundam series that is a must watch for any fan of the franchise is Build Fighters.

That being said, IBO is somewhere below 00 and Wing in the, "At least it didn't completely shit the bed" category, unlike G-Reco and SEED. I don't know if I'd call it good though.

>It's like Cowboy Bebop but with giant robots

And dead kids! I love how all the leadership on his current sortie want him to die a horrible death

Io feels like he lost since his opponent is a cripple and a lot of perceived inferiority of his foe and his own perceived superiority.

This one. They've all been relatively bland since.

I'm working my way through Gundam: The Origin right now. It seems to be pretty good so far. Just waiting on the last 2 episodes to come out.

The Zeongs they captured don't have psycoframe. In fact, psycoframe doesn't exist in thunderbolt yet.

The Zeong has psycommu, which is different from what the pycho zaku has.

This.
