If there can only be one death per name written, what would happen if you killed a pilot mid-flight, for instance? Does that mean that everyone on board miraculously survives?

Who gives a shit

That actual question is why no-one is freaking out that Gods are confirmed real. And that by using it, you don't go to heaven or hell. Literally it just confirmed that afterlife. Why is this no significant to anyone

They all die.

They die. The note didn't kill them, the circumstances did.

This.
How can they don't give a fuck when the purpose of life is revealed

Honestly it's a good way to kill someone with the Death Note without knowing the name. You ask someone unrelated who's also boarding the plane and kill him as "user dies because plane explodes mid-flight"
Boom, you killed that guy whose name you can't find.

It would be incredibly ironic considering that, at the end, the only afterlife in that universe is nothingness after all.

For that matter, people DO freak out about it. The last page of the manga is literally a cult following Kira that was founded during the second half of the story. Hence people already believe in the proof of a god.

But that's not circumstance, as noted. "Plane exploding" is something clearly caused by the Note and therefore would conflict with the rules.

Maybe it warps reality somehow, and the plane actually had a defect, or something. I doubt the note just wouldn't work, though.

The guy would die of heart attack and that's it.

>noted. "Plane exploding" is something clearly caused by the Note and therefore would conflict with the rules.
What would conflict with the rules?
It's not specific but it's realistic. A plane exploding is not unheard of by a mechanical failure or something. Maybe there's a terrorist inside, who knows? The Death Note has killed people by manipulating others because they are circumstancial, usually car drivers.

What if you wrote everyone's name in the note and said for all of them the plane exploded?

The explosion would directly kill other unrelated people directly.
Someone getting an heart attack while driving and killing a passerby is not the same thing.

"Even though only one name is written in the Death Note, if it influences and causes other humans that are not written in it to die, the victim's cause of death will be a heart attack."

If one person dies of a plane exploding, then other people will too. So they will just die of a heart attack.

Then you'll have the explosion you wanted. The original suggestion however was to manipulate the rules so you could kill someone on board without knowing their name, so this suggestion defeats the purpose.

ah fuck
the death note is no funsies

Well you could experiment. What if the guy's name is the person who causes the crash?
Either the pilot, or maybe just someone who does maintenance on the plane.

The problem with this rule is it can see into the future, and is broken with EVERY death.
Think about it, if you kill a bus driver, and then the replacement ends up fucking up and driving the bus off a cliff, it means the first bus driver's death caused other deaths.
Whoops heart attack.
But more than that; butterfly effect deaths. Because that person's fate was changed via the note, who dies and who lives in the future has changed. 20 years down the road it turns out that the bus driver would have saved a life, or caused a death, or something. Or maybe just been 20 seconds early to a place and got caught up in an accident.
Or what about 200 years in the future? Because the bus driver didn't care for his children, they become delinquents, who spend time in prison, have kids but parent them slightly differently which causes one to become unemployable and commit suicide.
Butterfly effect deaths invalidate this rule. It's a rule that either requires future-sight, or has a time limit, or has a more abstract limit like 'intentional'. Like you can't cause any intentional deaths. But then you have the butterfly problem again, if you are aware of the butterfly problem you can't kill anyone the way you want, since the intention will include awareness.
And even if that did work, 'intention' I mean, you could get someone who did not intent to kill to write in the note.

>Does that mean that everyone on board miraculously survives?

No

Yeah, and if you write 'this person crashes a car' but a passenger is not written in the note, the driver will have a heart attack and still crash the car.

That rule is stupid.

I suppose the key difference is inevitability. If you write both their names in the note, they will certainly die. However, if the driver has a heart attack there is still a chance for the passenger to avert the crash somehow. If they fail and die, you can't say that the death note killed them; their own inaction killed them. So I guess the rule still holds up.

he would die after he left the plane after it had landed

This.

What happened to the after 40 seconds thing?

Overridden by the "no collateral casualties" rule.

Could you keep someone alive with cpr and maybe even an artificial heart transplantation after they got a heart attack from the death note?

Wouldn't the 40 seconds rule get priority since it's an earlier an therefore more important rule?

Nobody knows, but probably not.

>earlier an therefore more important rule?
Was this ever stated?

I don't remember
I think so

I think it's safe to assume that the 40 seconds rule is one that can be easily overridden, simply because of the fact that you can specify the time of death yourself.

>Whether the cause of the individual's death is either a suicide or accident, if the death leads to the death of more than the intended, the person will simply die of a heart attack. This is to ensure that other lives are not influenced.
>This is to ensure that other lives are not influenced.

So heart attack, but after other lives are ensured to not be affected by it.

How?
How do you do that?
Remember the Germanwings crash?
Are you implying someone didn't banepost on the death note?

Guys there is obviously a co-pilot. Baka!
