Why?

Why?

Because the people who buy anime don't buy anything else.

>buying DVDs
What year are you from?

Because otaku, that's why.

>niche market show aired on tv
>movie shown in theaters that huge numbers of people pay to watch

Because Monogatari is actually worth it.

Movies make the majority of their money on ticket sales and merchandise, anime has to cover their budget mostly through dvd sales there is also far less people buying the dvds and so their price have to be higher.

welcome to a niche hobby

Japanese jews

Although the left side is bullshit, the right side had years between each film's release. The value of a movie as time passes generally goes down a shit ton. Not that great of a comparison.

$37? Not when it came out that's for sure.
But probably a big part is that they already sold a bunch of individual copies already and they don't need to make any more off of the LOTR series, but it's just another way they can.
Anime however has a backbone made of blu-ray sales and the studios depend on it just to survival.
LOTR also has sets of video games and probably by now a tv series or some shit, and way more merch than gatari, all for it's much much larger fanbase to eat up with much less thought as to what they're buying.

Which of these made the greater profit?

Why?

They're both shit, but the one on the left is shit that's popular throughout the world.

>Bakamonogatari

iirc the budget on that futurama knock off on the left was because of the voice actors and not because of the animation itself

>Back in the dawn of the home video business, the industry was constructed in a way where "niche" releases were only meant to sell a few thousand copies, mostly to video rental shops. Prices were high (typically $89.95 in America), but video shops benefited from having a wide and semi-exclusive selection of movies that normal people would never pay for. At those prices, only a few thousand sales could mean over a million dollars of revenue. Initially, video industry people didn't think there was much of a market in selling to collectors.

>But the fans proved them wrong. Otaku of all kinds (not just anime fans) started buying the videotapes and laserdiscs, and they bought them at those high prices that were intended just for video stores. There was no reason to lower it. In fact, there were a few experiments to drop the price to a more affordable amount, but that usually resulted in a slight increase in sales -- not enough to make up for the drop in revenue.

tl;dr blame the otakus whose demand enforced rental pricing for all consumers

Aniplex.

Anime is a niche hobby, the sales are incredible los compared to other media

Same reason left has a fuckton of detailed figures, porn, and other merchandise while right gets kiddy Jaks Pascific toys. One is for otaku, the other is for normies.

...

The one on the left is better animated.

because the lord of the rings movies are older than you

What is the question here? One is clearly a superior product for a lesser value.

But Bakemonogatari has the commentaries and OST as extras. The commentaries are fucking amazing too.

...

>Didn't find a way

Dumb question by a dumb OP

>shit anime nobody but shit eating retards want
>good movies everybody wants but shit eating hipsters
mystery solved

Why is modern US artists so lazy

Why?

So I have to choose between a fat fuck and a little girlyboy crossdresser?

Does this only cover the expenses of making the movie? Or does it include marketing?

ESL-kun please, I'm not even Sup Forums, but stop being retarded.

At least the american character designers knew they were making a clown. Plus, the american character is actually animated most of the time instead of being a powerpoint with flapping mouths.

I guess it's a good thing that the "ur" is the thing that bothers me most about this, it must mean I'm starting to care about tumblrtards as much as the anime industry does. Barely at all.

Is that accounting for the length of each? Simpsons has been going on for a long time, it's like comparing Gundam to a short.

because the demand for frodo's faggoty face was larger than the demand for a loli vampire

I believe that's just for the movie.

I'm fairly certain the budget refers specifically to the Simpsons Movie.

That's a screenshot of the movie, they did a lot of marketing too, 7/11 changed to Quickymart(Kwikemart?) or some shit, not sure if that's accounted for on the image.

Oh fuck no, i'm in that universe again

I love Shinobu as much as the next guy but come on, Elijah Wood doesn't look half bad for a 3D.

No, blame the lack of demand from other consumers that enforced rental pricing for otaku.

Real animation throughout. Big name voice actors. Hollywood marketing budget. Overpaid Hollywood execs siphoning money out.

nips works for ramen and a cup of rice, that's why.

ya but he looked gay

>Bakamono

one job

Look at this fucking westaboo kek

>bakamonogatari

Japs will buy it anyway, so price is bigger to earn more yens.

>not supporting the shit you love.
you're the problem

>implying spending money supports anything good

Huh.

Monogatari Sales best sales

Gotta pay the animators somehow. T-they do pay them well, right?

So do the best 2D boys.

>he loves producers and voice actors
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFaggot.

Treat them well, too.

Pantylines is my fetish

The 3D animators like Mii-chan, yeah.

>What year are you from?
He's implying that you should be getting BDs, retard.

Story about stupid people doing stupid things when?

There's prolly a bunch

Jesus I hate american cartoon art.

Calling it, retard detected.

This is why I don't buy anime.

Anime are animated on threes. This means that they only look a third as good as american cartoons.

>681 minutes of this crap
Jesus christ, just read the book instead of watching this hollywood cash cow.

Why not both?

Artistic merit and animation fluidity are two very different things.
One of those two is a bunch of pretty stills with small movements the other is an hour and a half a fluidly animated and constant movement.

It looks like shit regardless of how many frames it has.

>Plus, the american character is actually animated most of the time instead of being a powerpoint with flapping mouths.
Myth. That is not how anime is animated.

Becouse only autistic manchildren watch anime and people with taste watch movies

This tbqh

>and people with taste watch movies
You forgot the word "shit"

Seriously, most movies that sell are just as garbage as harem anime. You just don't notice it.

...

I could do the same the other way around.

My point is that shit taste exists in the west too, and it takes up most of the media there.

Look up Sturgeon's law.

Sturgeon's Law is not an actual law or even informally correct.

pretty sure this was a sarcastic post

>there are people with this low a powerlevel on Sup Forums

Kill me, this bait is too painful

>or even informally correct.
You're right. Putting the number at 99% is more accurate.

Putting the number at below 50% would be approaching accuracy.

You just have this notion that everything is either irredeemably shit or GOAT, and there's nothing in-between.

>mfw American animation is mostly just flash.

>implying LotR doesn't have more detailed figures, porn and other merchandise than all the Monogatari combined

>everything is either irredeemably shit or GOAT, and there's nothing in-between.
The in-between is forgettable mediocrity.

No, even that is too much of a simplification.

>too much of a simplification.
Why don't you tell that to

The industry needs high prices for the cheaply made Korean cartoons to even come close to making a profit. Please buy more BD's.

If they're made cheaply then why do they need high prices?

What so good about Seven Samurai?? I downloaded it, but 3 and half hours with black and white picture always turned me down.

>Muh HD
Sorry, I'm a CRT fag from /vr/

Because there aren't many buyers.

You said they need to have high prices because they're made cheaply, which makes no sense.

If the prices were any lower no one would buy them and studio's would go broke.

You don't sound like a true fan of animation. Why are you even on Sup Forums?

This right here. There simply isn't the economics of scale. There are only so many buyers willing to spend money. If someone is willing to spend, you might as well up the price.

Movies are expected to recoup their investments when they air, they can afford to knock down the prices a bit. Also, that is a movie series that aired more than 10 years ago. That box is heavily discounted and probably would've cost 10 times that amount back then.

I'm not an anime fan because I asked someone why cheaply produced products need to be priced high in order to be profitable?

Are you drunk?

Why don't you buy a bigger CRT then?
There's full HD CRTs.

Would you like some reading comprehension with that autism?

How did I fail to comprehend your post?

Don't EVER call me an idiot

I didn't.

So where did I fail to comprehend your post?

>Movies make the majority of their money on ticket sales and merchandise
I'm pretty sure most anime make a tonne of money through merchandise as well. Your right about ticket sales though
