Started watching Macross 7 this week. I brushed it off many times thinking it was going to be shit.. I'm on episode 10 and I wanna listen to his song.

Also Veffidas is my M7 waifu.

BD for old anime is even worthwhile? I know many are just lame upscales and the "cleaner" make the flaws more aparent

Currently watching Dirty Pair and enjoying the hell out of it, planning on watching Bublegum after I'm done with Dirty Pair franchise

What ever happened to that Gorg BD release?

Not upscales at all really. They were drawn in cel and look fantastic in a higher resolution.

Gorg got a BD release? I would imagine that /m/ would be the ones to sub it.

Not a series, but I recently picked up Do You Remember Love on BD, which I plan to watch tomorrow.

Aside from that, I've been watching green jacket Lupin.

TFW It'll never get a NA release

Debating on the regular or special BD

Waiting for those BD's coming in November

Forgot image

>tfw Kabocha Wine will never get a translation
;_;

>November

This got a BD release. Is there any comparison charts for it yet?

i remember reading this when it 1st got dumped here

good times

Just finished watching S1 of Yamato and 2199 in unison. I really liked 2199 over the original, however I can still appreciate the original being great/very good at the time of it's release.

Just started watching the Patlabor OVAs (on ep 4). Liking it. Was surprised how feminine Noa's VA sounded, thought she would have been more average sounding.

I'm gonna do some old mahou shoujo soon. Downloaded Dream Hunter Rem, and I figured I'd check out Cutey Honey too. What are some other good old ones outside the obvious Sailor Moon, Sakura, etc.?

Just started Lodoss-tou Senki, 's pretty good so far. Dwarf is a badass elf is a smug piece of shit

See

I want an M.D Geist BD
Rest in peace Central Park Media

Got tix to glorious 4k Belladonna this Friday. Should be quite the ride. Supposedly an hour long pre-show of other psychedelic Japanese animation but I don't know what they'll be.

Isn't that the first 4k anime? It was done on 72mm cel right?

Finished Video Girl Ai this week and really enjoyed it. Classic feel to it.

This. I dropped it after 10 eps a year and a half ago, but I've been devouring it since I restarted. I wish we could get 7 with Frontier production values.

Or Frontier with 7-quality characters.

I dunno about first, and I believe the original film negatives were 35mm. Still, crazy that the team managed to get a hold of all the originals to make this.

35mm cel can only go up to 1080, anything past that looks bad. I believe that belladonna was done in 72mm which is 4k.

And none of ya'll niggas even know, which is the sadist part because this anime deserves better than that.

Oh shit user thanks for reminding me about that looks like the BD is finally coming out soon.

Harbor Light Story ~From Fashion Lala~
watch it only because it's completely insane and no one ever talks about it.

i want ed guitar and bass chords.

>What do you want to get a BD?
Xabungle

...

Must've been that, then.

I've been meaning to watch this one, I love the character designs.

I just started downloading Victory Gundam. Makes me sad that EG won't be releasing anything anymore.

Started Macross 7 the other day.

Oh I watched an ojou-sama ohoho montage from this. Looks pretty neat and I've heard good things about it.

Now this I've never seen mentioned, even in the context of other obscure 80s OVAs. I'll look into it.

cineliciouspics.com/belladonna-of-sadness/

Says 35mm camera negatives, and it also being 4K.

What do you mean? It was already had a NA release. There's no BD remaster anywhere yet.

I meant BD, my bad. Pretty sure Toho had Japanese BD release for the 25th anniversary.

As far as pre-2000 shows I'm watching.
I'm almost done with Victory Gundam, and I'm around 12 and 16 episodes into Dai-Guard, and Medarot.respectively.

I also just started Galaxy Express 999, and I'm kind of bummed that there are only uploaded BDs up till episode 33.
After I finish Victory Gundam, I'm going to watch Turn A, which I'm pretty sure is 1999.

I'm planning to start that tomorrow as soon as I finish Macross Frontier. From what I here it's at least as good, if not better.

I finished Medabots recently, the finale is bonkers. You'll love it. Not really pre-2000s though, but whatever close enough to let it slide.

Get ready for stock footage, filler episodes, and Power Rangers villains.

It's still really really good, though.

>Gigil singing
Best moment of the franchise.

You're in for a treat. Do You Remember Love is one of my all time favorites.

It's time
to kiss your bot goodbye

METAFOOOOOOORCE!!!!!!!

I wished they gave a bit more attention to the narrative structure, but it's still beautiful and an awesome companion to the show.

There's always hope. Maybe there'll be something for the 30th anniversary.

I am definitely hype. All I know is that I should listen to Basara's song/

Maybe some day Saizen will get a dedicated translator for it.

more like "what post 2000 anime are even worth watching"

Fuck yeah Akazukin Chacha. Was thrilled when that got fansubed a few years back, never thought it would.

I wouldn't mind hearing the English dub that aired in Singapore, etc., in the 1990s. It was pretty bad overall, but it did have a few moments of charm.

>"Don't have me because I'm beautiful, Dorothy."
>"SHUT UP SERAVY!"

I am watching Finnish White Hippos
it's /comfy/
youtube.com/watch?v=-DH9woXopUo

This is objectively the best anime movie ever made and needs a BD so damn badly.

Mah nigga.

>That moment MÃ¥rran appears

the episodes with the groke were creepy as shit
youtube.com/watch?v=W_4Bjd7VEug

If only I could find the Finnish dub somewhere.

I remember this, good times.

Some are upscales of old scans (eg LoGH) and some are new scans from the film on modern equipment (eg Gunbuster).
The latter look so much fucking better than the dvd era it's out of control.

Eye on the DETAIL here for a 1980 TV anime.

eva, never seen it
so far its gud

Slayers.

Always been one of my favourites...is The Big O...I love mecha and noir styles...I'm considering rewatching it and maybe the second one

...

Watching the first Gundam.
The tactical action stuff gets tiring after a while but it's nice to see some downtime where the characters are interacting outside of their mobile suits and spaceships.

Haven't gotten very far but my favorite episode was Garma's death.
The scene where Amuro visits his mother and shoots the soldier was also a nice touch; it added an extra layer to Amuro's development as a character, which is something I didn't expect to see in a kid's show.

>Angel's Egg

What the fuck am I watching

I've seen it before, many times, but I used to only have it on VHS. I finally got it on BD just a few days ago, so I'm pretty excited to re-watch it.

Chacha had old subs back in the VHS fansub days. Surprised to hear that it's a relatively new sub in digital.

Slice of life anime used to suck so hard until Azumanga Daioh came along.

Deedlit is a such a great Elf though, kinda torn about her being a "High Elf" rather than a forest one. Mildly amused when the Witch in Dark Souls 3 was named Karla.

But user, anime doesn't existed before 2006.

Oh boy are you in for a treat.

...

Funny, how a show which can look so good on screenshots is so ugly animated.

who are those fluffy bunnies?

always

yeah it's pretty A E S T H E T I C

Why do old anime have that faded look? It's the same with irl film. I know there's deterioration in physical film or cels but is there any way to maintain the quality indefinitely?

Dude it's the photographic process that makes stuff look like that. It didn't look significantly more faded back then than it does now. At least for anime. And on top of that, if you look at the production cels, they did use more muted color palettes.

And it generally looks a lot better than digital coloring anyway so why are you complaining?

I heard the DVDs were better for Galaxy Express 999

Victory Gundam. After this all I have left to watch is AGE and then I'm done with Gundam. It's been fun.

Yakko and Marin from Akazukin Chacha.

Just watched Wicked City and it was amazing. Now I get where Nihei got his characters for BLAME!

Makie is cute! CUTE!

I just finished up Zeorymer last night. It was pretty good, but it felt that it was missing something.

Finished Dirty Pair a couple weeks ago and enjoyed it a lot, have the following lined up in my backlog: Zambot 3, Oniisama e...,Captain Harlock SSX,Great Teacher Onizuka. Going to start Harlock after I'm done with 999 since I'm 1/3rd towards the end and I've been enjoying it a lot.

With Ideon being the only other Tomino project I've seen outside of his Gundam material, would you say Zambit 3 is the next logical choice?

Also since this is a pre-2000 thread I've been buying a lot of old manga lately: Astro Boy omnibus, Onwards Towards Our Noble Deaths, Push Man and Other Stories, Gits, etc.

Anything I should be on the lookout for which is getting released from the good old days?

>This got a BD release.
Really? When? Where?

Love Wicked City, that ost man. IT'S NOT EASY! I've been watching Ruin Explorers, so far, it is quite entertaining. I like the characters a lot.

Anyone got a download link to scans of Swallowing the Earth?
