Only manchildren/kids and girls like it. With the shit they bring over her it's no wonder people think that.
in the uk it is regarded as being hyper violent and sexual due to how it was marketed during the early 90's and the titles that were selected for release in that time period.
Amongst civilians, it's seen as something only spergs and losers enjoy.
Among the military? Everyone from ghetto-escaping niggas to good ol Southern boys to beaners enjoys anime, regardless of branch.
About one third of the youth watches anime. Some are surprisingly deep into it.
Was really surprised how many people like somthing rather hardcore like MonMusu, collecting tank's and shit.
America says anime is for losers and social outcasts
Still treated as "kiddy" entertainment.
Also, watching anime = pro-Japanese. I don't understand this though.
See Only of you're a filthy civilian.
It's becoming increasingly normie here, popular store chains now have growing selections of shows and nobody cares if you watch it
no one cares if youre in the military
Eh, I've sort of noticed it. A lot of people are still in that mindset though that it's just highly sexual.
Top normie shit.
Everyone watches it. Even shit like Umaru.
We regularly discuss the latest episodes of dragon ball super on the street
Your reply says otherwise.
Here it's treated as kid's stuff with the same repeating offender (DBZ) over and over again due to nostalgia.
It doesn't help for conventions being too family friendly with jewish practices for raping wallets for content which is dissapointing.
Shitgal (Portugal) here.
no you misunderstood. i mean no one cares what entertainment youre into in the military. well done for instantly betraying the fact that you were just looking for an arguement though !
Your vague wording left a lot to the imagination.
In Italy anime is popular but it's considered to be for manchildren and losers, unless you watch the very mainstream shows like One Piece or Naruto
Anime and manga is for autists.
You will be shit on behind your back 90%
maybe youre paranoid
Eh, not sure, regarded as niche I guess.
It's acceptable to watch stuff like Cowboy bebop, though you'll probably be viewed as an autist if you show it to others.
We have manga in our libraries though which is cool
I'm Slovak and most people still think anime is only shit like Pokemon and Naruto
I beg to disagree. With young adults no one really cares unless you're a walking stereotype and having basic knowledge of the medium is somewhat normal - at least it is not seen as tentacle porn, you know?
No one really cares unless you try and talk about the weird anime (that is to say any anime with a non anime viewer). Most anime fans I meet IRL seem to be stoners or at least use pot to relax on weekends.
It's still pretty unknown to the average person, but most people who have heard of it are aware that it's not just Sailor Moon/DBZ/Akira variants.
No. I simply know that Sup Forums has a lot edgy neverserved retards from /k/ who hate milfags and scream welfare queen. I expect hostility if I ever mention being in the service.
I'm in northern ostrobothnia...
Fuck off back to whichever shit board you come from.
GODAMN FUCKING PEDOPHILES
HANG THEM ALL
Shit. I thought OP asked how does anime represent my country. Sorry reading is hard.
In Malaysia, it's an acceptable, semi-popular hobby.
So you are paranoid?
In Flipland (and pretty much SEA as a whole) it's pretty normal to like anime.
Do you know of Animax Carnival, user?
Was about to ask you about that.
In Philippines, it's considered a childish shit since most of the people there are retards who only think about muh social life and sports
Yeah, except cons are becoming a pretty big thing over here.
Finland. We have cons and manga gets transladed in finnish but other than that it is pretty autistic hobby.
It's like Bande dessinée but cheaper, it tends to influence some of our authors too.
One of the big comic books editor could be called weaboos associated and it would be better than their actual name. People like Taniguchi, Tezuka, Urasawa, and so on are considered equals to other "mature" comic books authors.
In Poland anime is for fagots and little girls.
I am both
Germany, we have either casual watchers or the hardcore weeaboo crowd and non-watchers only know Sailor Moon, DBZ and Pokémon, so I don't think its reputation is too great.
Fucking southern scum thinking it's all about them.
Your eurovision singer was weeb as fuck
Shame the qt got no points
it's mostly just shoujo and shounen stuff shown over here (Tokyo Mew-Mew, Naruto, etc)
inb4 irrelevant facts because irrelevant country lol
There's also stuff like Heidi that pretty much every one here knows.
DRAGON BALL Z!
We only talk about nostalgic "American" animes. If it wasn't on Toonami then you might get deported.
Have you been to AFA?
Was about to ask you about that.
Well, we get not very famous singers like LiSA to sing for us in our events I guess. She only did songs for things like SAO and F/SN if memory serves.
Yu Yu Hakusho became the most watch TV show in the Philippines during it's airing. The channel even won an award for how successfully they advertised it. Then it just snowballed from there.
Wait, there we're anime conventions here?
I didn't even know.
I'm betting it's usually at the major cities, too.(Jakarta, Surabaya, etc)
She's like one of the most popular anison artists right now.
Funny thing is that she went here last year and I went to her concert. She recently said in an interview that she liked halo-halo (a local dessert) so much she even wrote a song about it.
Indonfag not knowing about AFA Indonesia
To be honest, I'm stunned.
Also, are you familiar with Animax Carnival, particularly ACMY 2015?
Apart from getting stuffed into Baltland, where it doesn't fucking belong.
(Sorry for finngolian)
Etelän vetelät aina ajattelee olevansa parempia ku muut
Well, nobody actually cares about what you like or watch at all. However, it's thought that anime is only for youth ( just like cartoons. Meh, some people even can't see the difference between them)
pogs are, in fact, welfare queens.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE :^)
I rearely go to any kind of converions at all, MKL.
And i mean RARELY.
So how would i know?
Also, takin' a break from /asean/, m8?
It's also extremely haram.
In leafland, if you're between the ages of 25 and 18 right now, watching anime every night when you were 8-14 was one of the most average things a young boy could do.
Used to stay up all night watching shonenshit dragon ball, inu yasha, gundam, .hack//sign, naruto and FMA, and then spend the entirety of the week circlejerking anime with at least 10 other people throughout junior high and most of high school
YTV (the popular cartoon channel) used to air anime late in the night during the weekends throughout 2000-2004 so it was pretty much the highlight of most of our weeks growing up.
A good chunk of younger canadian adults are closet anime fans, or had anime phases when they were teenagers.
Monmusu is pretty mainstream for some reason. In America it is quite frequently at the top of the best sellers list for manga.
Well you could have at least said you've heard of it.
taking a break from /asean/
Yeah. Sort of. Don't want to say anything about my new overlord.
Murika: most hate it and ostracize those who like it.
Polan here, many people recognize entry level series that aired here long time ago, like DBZ (with polish lector over french dub).
Aside form that, saying "I watch anime" would probably be a social suicide among normalfags. I don't recall seeing anything anime-related outside of internets, like anime clubs or manga being sold in your average bookstore.
I know a few people who watch anime, but they are overrepresented in my acquaintance sample since most of them are math and computer nerds. No one with power level anywhere close to hundreds of series though, mostly barely above an average saofag.
Leave it to a tripfag to be retarded.
Most people don't give a shit. There are some misconceptions that anime is "weird cartoon porn," and it's usually associated with popular franchises, but nobody really cares.
Of course if you are an avid collector you'll be considered a nerd or geek, but that is true of any hobby. Regardless you will never get ostracized unless you're 15 years old with the self-esteem of an average harem protagonist.
There's still a ton of younger weebs in Canada, I work in a bookstore and there's always 12 year olds flocking for the biggest current flavor of the month meme manga.
Holy counter troll
The weebs at Animangaki are much more tolerable than Comic Fiesta's. Also, the casuals are annoying with the whole 'otacool' shit.
The fujos here have good taste sometimes.
In Russia you are either treated as a normal person, or people consider you a wierdo - it's 50/50. But literally everyone is a-ok about mmos for some fucking reason.
I'm from Suomus and my impression is that anime is very poorly known outside of its fandom, is regarded as kids' entertainment, isn't show a lot on TV and isn't well available on DVD/BD.. Manga seems to be huge, but is probably considered for kids too.
Why is it okay to say you like something like gaming but you're immediately ostracized for saying you like anime and manga?
Nobody gives a shit because we had anime in in tv since the 70's, fanbase is mostly cancer, but that's most countries I guess.
Gamershits are insecure about the false sense of accomplishment they've sunk into all their precious achievements.
Gaming is much more popular.
Normalfags like oldass anime like Dragonball, Sailor moon, Saint Seiya and such. Hardcore weebs are mostly deemed as cringeworthy but people don't actually care much
A lot of young people are into it and pretty much everyone around my age grew up watching DBZ, One Piece and other stuff.
Some people still consider anime and manga to be weird or childish, but unless you literally make fun of yourself by going around with a Naruto headband or won't shut up about it with people who don't care, no one's gonna give a shit.
So it's really just one medium being spiteful over another because it's more popular?
It's just that if something becomes popular enough it becomes socially acceptable.
Anime doesn't have a chance because of the deeply ingrained stigma that animation is for children, and the way it was introduced to America.
Yet it's perfectly fine for the average person to like Seth MacFarlene shit and Adult Swim stuff.
In the UK it was a friend mine from the Philippines that got me into animal in the first place
And actually somehow made most of my year try out one piece
Well the exception to the rule is sitcoms. Those are ok because you aren't meant to take them seriously, and they're like the animation equivalent to newspaper comics.
Another problem anime has is that it's Japanese and a lot of Americans hate anything Japanese.
EITHER you're viewed as an autistic man child, or they don't care atall, just another show to watch
Anime I meant not animal
Anime doesn't have a chance because of the deeply ingrained stigma that animation is for children
Western animations are fairly popular among youths. I think it's the language/cultural barrier plus the whole sexualization thing. If westerners weren't such prudes anime would be more popular
But then how do you explain things like Otakon?
HMV has a whole section of anime blu-rays but fuck are they expensive
Bulgaria. It seems to be turning pretty mainstream among teens. Anime-cons are a regular here and are always full to the top with cringy Tokyo Ghoul fangirls. Just walking around town on weekends is a sure chance to bump into some weebs, unironically wearing cat ears. It's disgusting.
Sexual content in anime is a problem precisely because anime is supposed to be for children. American live action shows are more sexual than any TV anime, yet it's no problem because they're supposed to be for adults.
Pokemon and DBZ was huge here. Especially DBZ. Literally everyday at 5PM, the streets in my neighbourhood were empty.
t. black guy
There are a few series everyone watched as kids so its ok to talk about them, but if you mention anything else, you'll be seen as a weeaboo
France here, almost everybody who aren't 40 years old and more watch or have watched anime, my country is the second bigger anime and manga customer behind Japan.
I was beaten up in the streets because I was wearing an Eva T-shirt
Middle eastern country ?
I don't know about younger generation, but oldest people don't give a fuck about your hobbies in Russia. Meanwhile all early 20 people I meet sometimes trying their hard to look adult as fuck. It's pretty cute, so I assume anime and games are big no-no for young people here.
I thought we were third since the US consumption of manga increased.
France is one of best place for artists, right?
Most Flips are Shounenfags
Go to a con in Northern Ireland
Go past Anime stall
Overhear some old guy looking in that direction and saying: "Hey! They're those...wat' d'ya call em', er, JAPANESE CARTUYNS"
I think Anime's too new for most people here, so it just gets the same reputation that normal cartoons get.
No, Italian city suburbs. I guess I'll just post the story here
be 19 yo me
have nothing to wear for a metal concert
"well I'll just put on this black Eva T-shirt, (pic reated) no one's gonna get the reference anyway"
go to concert
a kid at the bus stop asks me if it's from Evangelion (he was a newfag who'd only seen the rebuilds
the bus the kid was waiting for arrives, there's no one else at the stop except me and 4-5 mobs who have overheard the conversation
they start beating me up after calling me a weeb (well, the Italian equivalent) and run away when some other people show up (there was literally no one apart from us at the moment)
go to concert anyway
Normies are cancer who belong in labor camps. What else is new.
If you think they beat you because of T-shirt, you're retarded
On that note:
Have an SnK hoodie that only has the Survey Corp logo on the front and back. It was obscure enough not to draw attention to itself, recognisable to people who watched the show, and not so obscure that I looked like a weird autist if I had to explain it.
Have had it mentioned four times over the last few months having worn it; a 12 year old girl who got ridiculously excited, some guy who's son was into it, and two of my fellow University students
I thought you were some jolly pizza eating guys with a great ex-leader (Mussolini)
Also, what is the equivalent ?
Finnish one, animehomo is pretty self explainatory (anime + homo)
That's why I've decided against wearing any anime shirts in public. I don't want people commenting on them (for better or worse).
Fungary here, too much yaoi fujoshit, Tokyo Ghoulturd and Shingeki no Kyojin fag.
The equivalent is "giappominchia". Giappo is from Giappone (Japan) and "minchia" is a slang word for dick
By the way anime and manga are pretty popular here, I guess I just met the wrong guys in the wrong neighbourhood
Those are lies. In Mexico anime is seen under the same light as cartoons, shit for kids. Watching H stuff would make you a total creep. Only exceptions are DBZ, Saint Seiya and to lesser extent Pokemon as those were very mainstream
This did not happen.
mostly plebs with shit taste here. With my good taste, i am the wizard of my sector.
spic likes dragonball
I wouldn't know since as soon as I'm out of the house i avoid any anime related shit like the plague.
It's becoming a pretty normal thing in Texas, I even see places like wall-mart and Target selling merch for normie shit like Attack on Titan.
Mainstream opinion is that it's all cringy shit
If you speak to artists and musicians, most of them have watch some kind of anime or is open to watching it.
Bangladesh. Its one of newer sources of entertainment along with superhero movies, tv series like GoT, and eating out. It only exploded during the last 8-10 years mainly, with the introduction of Animax(which was banned later on). But its still mostly limited to the urban youth. Also, many of them are equivalent of SEA powerlevel fans who take it way too seriously if you go against their headcanon. Still nice to see more and more of them appreciating the beauty of Saber and fighting for their waifus.
Ethiopia. We all like Yuasa Masaaki here.
In upside-down bongland it's somewhat popular among asians and university students but everyone knows we're just copying the americans as usual
Sweden. I've met a surprising amount of normal people who watch anime, it's usually just the entry tier like Attack on Titan or Death Note though
Not a good one, I'm sure.
I'll talk about it if someone else brings it up, otherwise I talk about normal everyday shit like politics, hunting, fishing, work, economics, etc.
Cangarooland or Kiwi?
No one also knows it's animu.
Anime is for losers.
So since there's a bunch of brits here, who's going to the con next week?
Why? Why do you accept shit like thsi?
Indonfag here. Liking anime is very normal, because most youth here are really prone to escapism.
We have big anime convention and Japanese culture festival in major cities every few months, but it's filled with riajuu so I don't give a shit.
Sweden. The only anime I know people ever watched was either Akira or Ghost in the Shell.
Whereabouts are you from? Suprised that Bangladesh has an anime following at all other than the anime targeted at children. I thought that most people would be very close minded about it
That being said I haven't been there in years and pretty much basing this off of my ignorance.
Associated with UKIP
because anime is supposed to be for children
Isn't stuff like Sailor Moon, One Piece, Dragon Ball, Ranma and so on more for teens?
Oh right, for some god-awfull reason we basically see them identicall to eight years old.
Come on anons, you should be more responsible than to suggest that being a weeb in Vancouver or Toronto is the same as being one in Calgary or basically anywhere in Atlantic Canada
I haven't been to any cons here, but aren't UK cons all shit?
I've heard it's just filled with normalfags discussing entry level shit.
Stuff like Avatar and Thundercats 2011 (it was decent enough, too bad) goes into the right direction (was mostly aimed at 10+, too).
It's still ridiculous rare.
And hell, Venture Bros. basically has an advancing storyline and character development, but it's aimed at older teens, and it's not even a Simpsons-clone. I wish we had more like that.
technnically there were some MTV-shows like V, but that was a weird time in the early nineties
Same here in Chile.
The "otaku" community doesn't help either
Cons are for normalfags and utter retards.
You have the oldest comic culture in the world, and your stuff is as varied as japanese stuff (hell, I have a few french porn comics in my collection, not bad, even if I prefer manga style).
And from what I heard, you actually respect it.
So it's no wonder mango got popular.
The series was controversially aired as a "midnight movie" at a time when other anime films were being played on youth station Teletoon, supposedly as an accident as a result of nobody checking what was screened. Only the first 30 minutes were played.
Them wacky frenchies and their pranks.
and then a bomb exploded everything
You don't go there to talk.
Just for merch
Suprised that Bangladesh has an anime following at all
Hell, I'm surprised that Bangladesh has television.
buying garbage AOT clothing and wearing it in public
I bully people in my Uni for this shit.
Dhaka, the capital. Most urban parents can't/don't have the time and energy to chastise their children's online behaviour 24/7. They'll probably disinherit you if they catch you watching porn, but anime? Nah.
Of course, I am talking about a target demographic- the urban youngsters comprised of middle/higher income, who can afford decent unlimited internet to stream/download from kissanime(not good enough to download stuff from nyaa/other Sup Forums essentials). We've actually been having 2 comic cons for the last 4/5 years, in which anime fans are a large part of. Of course, shounen stuff is still the most popular(the big 3, DBZ, YYH and FMA:B) with only oldfags/more hardcore fans going into HxH, Inuyasha(which served as the gateway anime to the first watchers around 2006/7). Only within the last 2/3 years have I seen people watching season by season.
Also, why did you go there? Just curious. Have family?
People who can't afford to wash their asses with clean water have television with bootleg electricity. I am not even joking, local models are very cheap.
I once read a story about a Bible Camp actually showing the first 20 minutes or so of Bible Black (councilors got out before it really started).
Don't know if true, but for the sake of the children's sanity I hope so.
What actually happens:
Sees normie in AoT clothes
Whispers "Fucking normie scum"
"What's that user?"
They probably laugh at you for being an elitist autist
go to a computer science college in Poland
some students hate anime, but it's mostly because of different taste
quite a few people know some mainstream anime, some watch it regularly
you can spot a high power level weeaboo from time to time
I guess that's what happens when you go to the nerd junction.
We don't. That's what english subs are for.
Have an SnK hoodie
Fucking end yourself.
Christ, these threads really remind me how shit Sup Forums and filled with normalfags is.
Appearently this is not the normie opinion, or this lector shit wouldn't have been so fucking common.
Why am I not surprised?
I only wore my Anaheim Electronics shirt because of this. Most people would just think it's some random company.
Europe had some more "mature" cartoons for children that didn't assume their viewers where fragile idiots.
Stuff like Animals of Farthing Wood and Redwall.
US also made Prince Valiant in 1991, we watched this a lot as children.
Certainly not the Silver Age "never say die, never show violence, never have a plot" stuff.
STOP LIKING THINGS THAT I DON'T LIKE REEE
Well then, how do you bully?
It's really for young adults
I try not to bring up anime at all, it's pretty cancer talking about cartoons outside of the internet
Those don't wear SnK hoodies.
I wasn't that guy, but you should none the less go back to /v/.
Normalfags don't watch anime. The term you're looking for is newfag.
I wasn't that guy
Too bad, I'm actually interested.
Also, why did you go there? Just curious. Have family?
I have relatives in Sylhet and Dhaka. I rarely visit, but I went for just over a week to attend a wedding in the former. So I didn't really have time experience how much the culture had changed since the last time I visited before that.
We pretty much get no dubs, voice-overs only.
When it comes to anime, no one really watches those, most people >stream their cartoons with english or polish subs. I don't think there is any anime dub (or rather voice-over) industry in Poland, just a few series that aired long time ago.
On unrelated note, we also have infamously retarded title translations, one of the best being Rogue One translated word-for-word, with "rogue" as a noun and "one" as a number.
It's how it's always been. Most things on TV have a lector and maybe that's better because most of the time polish dubs suck ass. And subs are uncommon outside cinemas, probably because of the "Ah don't wanna no fancy letters in my movies" attitude.
Anime isn't mainstream except for these that are mainstream
u nigga cereal
I live on the west coast of Canada, and nobody here gives a shit what you do in your spare time. Whenever I go out east though there seems to be a much heavier stigma around anything considered "nerdy", and your much more likely to be made fun of or chastised for it.
How far east?
Anime used to be all tentacle school girl shit or DBZ.
Now just about everyone under 30 has watched it in some form or another. All twenty something men play video games and jack off to hentai but you're still the weeaboo faggot if you talk about anime.
Southern Ontario and Montreal.
No one cares about your shitty video, stop posting it in threads.
Normalfags don't watch anime.
Keep thinking that. Soon the age of CHAD will be upon us.
The cultural lag is quite interesting desu. You've got more and more global brands opening shop in Dhaka, people spending hundreds/even thousands woth in dollars in shopping, buying tickets to cricket world cup games, going to posh restaurants and spending money that can likely feed my entire family of 5 for lunch, and of course watching sex scenes in GoT(in their computers alone). On the other hand, you also have a ton of poverty that isn't hidden, dilapidated buildings, people bemoaning western clothing(especially of women's), saying that western shows harm society and yet watching shitty Hindi serials showing infidelity and general breakdown of our traditional families, which has a more pronounced effect. Seriously, a couple of years ago many stores began stocking some stupid dress worn by one of those heroin, charged a ton, and when some girls/married women didn't get it there a number of suicides, divorces etc. It even made into the national newspapers.
Really? Montreal is pretty liberal by my standards.
You get stares sometimes where I live in Atlantic Canada, like if you're a brony.
Only men though. Women get a pass here because anime is seen as highly effeminate.
all you autistic weebs mad when nip cartoons are referred to as cartoons by normies
Learn to lighten up or kys
Anime is slowly getting more popular in the US, but it never gets farther than entry level shit like KLK, SnK, Jojo, WPM, Hero Academia, etc. Also despite how many people watch subs around here, you're hard pressed to find anime fans IRL who aren't dubfags.
It still angers me to this day that anime fans are made fun of while furries (in fursuits, no less) get to walk around town and people just think it's a lighthearted joke.
My family lives in the english speaking parts, so that might have something to do with it.
He still gives a shit about things like this
Grow a backbone
I feel like the general opinion on furries is split between people who don't understand the full extent of it and think its a joke, and those who genuinely want to see them killed.
Chads and Stacies will stay far away from Anime and Manga
They don't really know neither care. We are all the same nerd virgins in their eyes.
Is like the people on prison, those killers that are disgusted of pedos and vice-versa. They are all monsters in the eyes of the people.
LOL! This is exactly it!
No one hides it, but they only talk about anime when asked.
It's like porn; everyone is ashamed to watch anime, but still do it.
Newfags are the ones who only watch popular seasonal shit like SnK and OPM. True normalfags don't even go that far, and view anyone who watches anime as the same, regardless of their powerlevel.
Not really. I feel like the general interest in anime as of recent is due to the popularity of "nerd culture" being spread around places like reddit and tumblr.
Americans have an almost nonexistent knowledge of anime before the 90s. If you were an anime fan in the 80s you were buying Animeigo's localized VHS tapes and importing LDs from Japan. Before DBZ and Sailor moon there was Transformers (which is only half anime) and Speed Racer. And most people don't even know Speed Racer is anime.
I hate nerd culture so much, not like they do anything serious to qualify as nerdy other than consume shit.
Wasn't Hokuto no Ken or should I say Ken il guerriero super popular in Italy?
"Ah don't wanna no fancy letters in my movies"
You should have just used subs right from the beginning, people get used to it, and you wouldn't have lector cancer.
That's something useful your new government could do for once, banning lectors on penalty of torture.
American cartoons are for kids or they're "adult" comedies about fat middle aged fathers.
It's pretty much an offshoot of modern identity politics and millennials desires to be as quirky and unique as possible, but without actually putting in the effort to get involved in any particular medium.
Chad posting here.
I refer to it as cartoons in the rare circumstances I have to talk to outsiders about it.
makes things easier and is technically true.
deeply ingrained stigma that animation is for children
That's slowly changing as kids who grew up watching anime are adults now. Though the "anime is for adults too" mindset is usually held by narutards who think their shounen shit is actually for adults just because they're a tad more violent.
Do you look like this?
It's the beatnik of the 2010s.
Or hippie or whatever was popular in the 80s.
Is Chad your name or is it your home country?
France are the original weeaboos.
Go back to /r9k/ you filthy crossboarder
Anime is for fucking fags
Atleast us manga people can play it off as reading comics but anime shit will always be downplayed.
not calling them "chinese cartoons" in real life
I see what you did there Texas. And I like it.
You're basically right, millennials no rely more on shit labels than any other generation to make themselves super special and unique, liberal, SJW, feminism, nerd, gamer, geek, etc. You get my point here. I personally blame social media since while it's expanded and made everyone realize how utterly boring they all are they'll stoop to any level to make them appear on the outside interesting and complex so they seem different from the herd.
I find it's associated with winning elections.
Your really trying to force this meme hard aren't you?
children's television plants the seeds for monstergirls and furries
Quite appreciated by the young and as long as it's not moeshit or echi , by elders too , Naruto was huge here.
Nah, every third Trump supporter having an anime avatar does it for me.
But Naruto is haram
america is in permanent irreversible decline
Here in Chile nobody actually gives a shit about it, as long as you're not very eloquent. Anime was pretty common in TV during the 90s, hence people grew somehow accustomed.
Universities's campus are often used as anime conventions venues, and anime expos are bigger and bigger every day, and you even see people riding the subway wearing their cosplay but are minorities.
The last summer was the biggest Anime Expo ever and Asian Kung Fu closed the day with a concert.
I've a pretty decent powerlevel but I never talk about it unless the person likes anime. I have my personal collection of anime related things but nothing that stand out so much, like posters or a bunch of anime figures. My only anime figure is a Haruhi one.
In summary, nothing to be so ashamed, pretty normal as long as you don't scream it.
Teen girls fucking love it (Hetalia was huge here), and most teenagers and young people in general are weebs due to YTV airing anime all the time and school libraries being stocked with manga. I actually remember mine having stuff like Rosario + Vampire and Karin in mine, which was the best thing ever when I was 13.
I still think to this day the number of female weebs outnumber male ones in this country. Every person I've ever heard discussing anime in real life was a 14-year-old girl.
I saw a young fujoushi in the making with her mom when I was at work. She had an attack on titan bag but all it said was the title and it was in japanese. I said that's a nice Attack on titan bag and blew her mind. She said nothing but turned bright red and the spaghetti was flying.
doing something useful
Just where do you think I am?
It is actually pretty popular comparing to other countries. In each somewhat important city there are anime clubs and several conventions across the year. It is getting specially popular these days, you see a lot of 14 year olds kids getting into it. As usual, 90s kids grew watching ranma, dbz and so on.
That nerd culture shit is so fake.
Yeah I'm a nerd I played Mario 64 and watched Sailor Moon as a kid. Now I watch Naruto and play CoD so nerdy XD.
And as soon as you drop some serious nerd knowledge on you they call you a nerd.
The bad news is that shit is everywhere.
The good news is none of them know what the fuck they're talking about.
- "It is for children"
- "It is extremely violent for children"
Yeah, I know. Sometimes I'm ashamed of my country for its ideology.
Don't worry about Chad. He'll make fun of you but as soon as the girls are gone he'll tell you he thought Jojo was pretty sick.
Tumblrite gender politics cretins are what you should worry about poisoning our hobby.
talking to a normie about anime
"Isn't it hentai?"
Only hc fans and autists go to cons here.
They're most likely a fraction of what is in reality the amount of -casual or not- anime consumers in Finland.
We are so reserved in nature anyway powerlevels show exceedingly rarely even in bastions of "weirdness" like departments of humanities of universities.
As someone who goes to Spain occasionally Spaniards seem raised on Go Nagai's work, hell there's even a mural of Mazinger Z in one of the places I drink at whenever I'm on holiday.
Isn't there like 2 episodes on each of the Nise BDs?
The call them chinese cartoons, and think that everyone who watches it unironically are pathetic perma-virgins who jerk off to little girls and do ridiculous cosplays. Oh, and that they live on a basement and never go out.
That, or that they are dumb crazy girls who like faggots.
Tumblr and SJW's will have zero effect on anime itself. The reason cartoons, comics and video games have been affected is because their creators are based in North America, but Japan is completely disconnected from the western political scene. The only thing they can do is complain, which will likely fall on deaf ears considering how little of a financial impact the west has on anime.
Canada has a massive amount of weebs. Anime aired during the weekend nights used to be a pretty regular thing here. Anime stopped airing on television but manga still sells a lot.
A good chunk of Canadian cartoons poorly mimic or ape anime and end up being fucking cancerous.
Just look at this fucking abomination.
Never talk about it unless it's sperg online friends or someone you already know likes it. Sometimes, even if they do like anime it's still in your best bet to play dumb.
watches it unironically
I hate this term.
So as long as I'm ironically sucking cock it's not gay.
Its still Niche as fuck, and only the most western anime is accepted by the mainstream. We're probably around Italy levels of acceptance for it, behind Germany and France in Europe, and wayyyyyy behind the U.S.
Couldn't get past the 7 second mark.
Didn't know that was Canadian.
Do westerners even try at anything anymore?
What even happened to anime vanishing from our television screens? I know they show some things on Sony Movies but it's all shit we've seen before but I remember early 00s we used to get some decent stuff, at least I could always go into my local Waterstones or Traveling Man and pick up some decent manga.
If they can't make Japan buckle they can complain enough to have laws passed that severely affect our access to anime and manga. Though before anything extreme like that happens we'd see them infiltrate localization companies and censor material as well as slip their agenda into dubs and translations. We already see that happen.
You're not one of those gaymur gates are you?
And not necessarily outright censorship but just dumb childish localization like "roaarrrgh that's I love you in dragon".
Eh, the early 00's saw some Western stuff on BBC and Channel 4, but really there hasn't been that kind of success replicated again.
That and the BBC strangled the UK animation community to death at birth. We literally have none, all the animators who are worth a damn go to America. And because, thanks to the BBC churning out 100000 documentaries and dramas every year, there's no feasible competition either. Even the current BBC white paper is about restructuring the content rather then reducing the BBC monopoly.
So in the long term, UK anime communities going to have no presence on TV at all. Although Manga's been increasingly popular, with bookshops stocking more of it.
Texas here too. Its been getting pretty mainstream. Weird seeing your different social cliques weeb out about the popular shows. A lot of people refuse to read out here though. Only manga discussion Ive had is with friends or in college.
The only conceivable impact they could have is through sites like crunchyroll, which few people here use. Aside from that, torrenting is already illegal, so passing laws limited access would be pointless, and the people who upload torrents will always be one step ahead of the law anyhow.
it's been demonised by most mainstream media outlets, but normal people don't really care. though it would be weird if they walked in on your watching some baka kawaii uguu moeshit
No Jonathan Ross joint Louie Theroux documentary about the anime and manga industry
At least we got some anime and manga related things in Japanorama, I'm expecting some cringe inducing documentaries explaining what anime and manga is to normalfags when the Olympics comes up. Should be interesting to see what is shown.
popular store downtown up in canuckistan a decade ago
all over the front windows were naruto, dragon ball, and one piece posters
same store but now
it's all SAO, attack on titan, and KLK posters
it's pretty popular too
Surprisingly normal in the US. I know a lot of people I met in the military like it.
Pretty cute tbph
Japanorama was the show that made me into a weeb. I'm still not sure if I should be grateful for that or not.
There was already a BBC documentary on Babymetal which pussyfooted around the Junior idol thing. It can only get worse.
David Pilling (some UK japanophile) made a good indicator of what to expect come 2020. There's going to be lots made out of the bullet train, sushi, Samurai, Bushido, kimono's, the tea ceremony and geisha's.
And maybe a little something on unspeakable war-crimes, but probably not.
Seeing normies try and talk about anime and manga's going to be interesting. As far as I know, the BBC correspondent has no history with that.
I think that most normal people in most countries know nothing of anime, and so don't have an opinion. Its a really middle class activity.
When I say passing laws I'm more referring to banning sexual stuff.
anime is problematic it promotes rape and unhealthy sexual depictions of women
Vives en algún pueblo chiquito? Yo vivo en Monterrey, y la mayoría de la gente de mi edad ve anime y lee manga, en especial cosas de normiefags como Sword Art Online, Attack on Titan, y Mirai Nikki.
Just because something is made illegal doesn't mean it will stop. Western anime fans are used to dealing with society and government telling them what they do is wrong, a few more legal hurdles isn't going to do shit.
This is the BBC. This is how they'll do it:
"This is called Ah-nyme"
"There are many Ah-nymes in Japan"
"Ah-nyme has been criticised for it's excessive and problematic sexual overtones, which, some say, verges on misogyny"
"Ah-nyme has been further criticised for it's steadfast refusal to accommodate large numbers of black characters, in spite of the growing numbers of blacks living in Japan, facing appalling treatment at the hands of PM Abe's Right-wing Government."
"Mr. Miyazaki would go on to state in an interview in 2015 'Ah-nyme was a mistake'."
They'll get some shitty Youtuber who claims to be a massive fan but really has entry level taste and doesn't know much about how the industry works claiming to be a mouthpiece for the oppressed fans
We need Wossy back.
"Hey guys, SuperMinecraftTeen420 here, and I'm a MAJOR anime fan. I've got posters of Attack on Titan and Naruto all over my room, only I have to take them down when my GF comes over #secretlife amirite?"
Or they'll just disregard it as Haram.
growing number of blacks in Japan
Please tell me that isn't true.
Oh god I can see it now.
If they do one of those 'apply now and get interviewed on it later' things I might just do it, to represent Sup Forums
memeing about Haram
Sure is American in here
growing number of blacks
Yes. Although bare in mind that 1 + 1 is an 100% increase
Most anime is banned, a friend of mine got fined pretty badly for watching some anime due to the portrayal of women in it.
No, I was making fun of the fact that moving from 5-10 would be considered something that the BBC would gush over for how "diverse" it was, and how they desperately need more, and that the media should promote every step of the way.
It's gotten to the point in Sweden that this could have happened.
Just kidding, criticizing anime is cultural imperialism, check your privilege
It's pretty fucking popular
Literally everyone aged 30-15 has watched Dragonball and everyone aged 25-20 has watched the entire series
Also everyone aged 55-40 has watched Grandizer
And a vast majority has watched Digimon, Naruto, Eva, Death Note, Hunter x Hunter, Fullmetal Alchemist, Tokyo Ghoul, and well generally all the super popular stuff
If you've watched more than this you're the cool guy who knows a lot of fun animes and people will actively ask you for tips and hentai recommendations
If you never shut up about anime they'll avoid you unless they want hentai
Where the fuck do you live?In the worst suburb of Naples?
"Mr. Anno, why does Neon Genesis Evangelion not incorporate any Islamic symbolism. Surely you understand how problematic this is?"
"Why do Anime characters look so white? Is it a remnant of White standards of beauty that were the result of Western cultural imperalism?"
So the international consensus seems to be.
It's for kids. And if you're watching the stuff that's not for kids you're a fucking weirdo.
But we have to ask ourselves. Is that really wrong?
There you have it ladies and gentlemen, anime is racist. Up next on the BBC is Britain racist? After that, Top Gear.
everybody just cares about cosplay and videogames
I hate this country sometimes. Why cant we produce good comic and doujinshis. Where are my cikgu suraya doujins? We have good illustrators and even lewd ones, why cant we get any comic material?
Manga and anime in sweden officially died in 2010.
Nigga HD freed him
Well some guy in Britain got convicted for something similar, but he'd already been convicted for real life cp, as well as being a late 30s guy who had saved literally hundreds of pictures of that shit on his hard-drive.
But the swedish manga industry remains dead.
Fuck off, /pol/. The outcome of that case was him being acquitted and loli being legalized in practice.
Fuck off, /pol/.
Keep that head in the sand.
I don't think it had any connection to the case though.
My local library has Noragami vol 1 and 2 and some SnK/death note. Not enough, but I got to enjoy some Yato in a lunch break.
So it was nothing like that sweden case
Remember that kids who were watching anime in the early 80s now 40+ year old adults and they still love them
That's because the main publisher went full retard and dropped the two popular shounen/seinen magazines for a shitty shoujo magazine nobody really wanted, then dropped everything but Naruto and One Piece during the economical crisis (the former one being retardedly far behind, and the latter having a way too localization-heavy translation that tried to eradicate any trace of Japanese or English names).
"Ladies and gentlemen"
"Not referencing gentlexers"
Gotta represent non binary genders on the Beeb nowadays.
how did tokyo ghoul got so popular?
The dude was the sole translator for 80% of the manga being released in sweden at the time. He lost his job as a translator, and because the reputation of japanse media took a big blow as well, the publishers didn't bother to find a new translator.
I don't agree at 100% with the guy you quoted
Tokyo Ghoul isn't that famous(between normies) and almost nobody here is into hentai
The conviction was basically for him preaching his previous conviction, so there's no precedent set under common law.
they still love them
People who watched anime in their childhood and adolescence probably have fond memories of them, as most people have in their adulthood about things they enjoyed as kids, but that's it.
Nostalgia doesn't mean they wouldn't think anime is for children because they themselves consumed it as kids.
They do not follow and watch new anime. They most likely stopped watching sometime in their puberty because "cartoons are for kids" and as adults never went back because they had new interests now.
If they saw now excerpts of several popular modern series they'd just say "it was better when I was a kid" or "this isn't what it used to be" and ignore it all.
Is this the blog thread?
I have no idea
And I forgot AoT and One Piece but they're super popular as well
Hentai is super popular
I had a guy in high school who drew hentai in class too
He got busted drawing Asuka and got out of it by saying it was just a basis for the skintight suit
more like the fuck normies thread
Jesus christ... There's no running from you teenage faggots, is there? Even here on Sup Forums
the only ones I've encountered irl who watch anime watched fairy tail and nothing else
80% of the manga
More like 50%, considering they were already down to just Naruto and One Piece. The only things that were impacted was One Piece getting a new translator (which improved the translation if anything now that places and characters with English names didn't get butchered), and the Swedish edition of the Love Hina manga which had already been out for many years being removed from mainstream bookstores.
I wouldn't know, I don't talk to people IRL.
fuck off normie
Naruto and One Piece
He was the translator for both of those.
Love Hina got removed due to cp scare?
Reminds me I should go read it sometime.
Any Dutchfags here?
I feel like it's getting more popular here, but can't really say.
Where I live it's somewhat popular and not looked down upon at least. Some girl did think it was just porn, though, before watching FMA and enjoying it.
No, YOU fuck off you trend-chasing /reddit9k/ idiot.
When there's hooblah over lolicon you always think the rowdy eromanga but no it's shit like fucking Love Hina and the sex position chart with the chibi characters.
Tell that to my dad
He's still unironically watching old anime for nostalgia and new anime whenever he asks me for new stuff
He gets uncomfortable during fanservice scenes and whatnot mostly because
I can't watch this, these girls are as old as your sister
Got him to watch Eva and he liked
back in my day it was just about the robots, now it's feelings, robots and life lessons, like women are nothing but trouble
Misato's a good woman though
you sure showed him
Love Hina manga which had already been out for many years being removed from mainstream bookstores.
Tell your dad the internet says he has good taste.
Only normies use "normie".
Either way, he was hardly great at it. Localization is one thing, but stuff like turning Skypiea into Uranotopia, Pluton into Pulton and shifting around the names of Dracule, Dragon and Drake was just ridiculous.
To be fair, though, he was at least better than the translator for Yu-Gi-Oh, Shaman King and Bleach who inserted some of the most cringe-inducing attempts at slang and pop culture references I've ever seen into nearly every other line.
Misato is a good woman
Truly, what a time it must have been to be introduced to anime to come out of it as such a man of refined taste.
Your old man sounds like a great guy but is definitely among exceptions.
Hell I'm 23 and my contemporaries don't and wouldn't touch anime now even if they used to be transfixed by Pokemon, Digimon and any other saturday morning toy/game tie-in series that aired 15 years ago.
It is expensive as fuck. I had to pay £25 for a blu ray of Cowboy Bebop -- not complaining though as it usually retails for £45.
I like the word 'normie', it distinguishes well without elaboration.
No one cares as long as you don't sperg. I see students of every level with pins, you can find popular tanks in any street newspaper shop, and in the yearly book festival in the capital I found some unexpected ones.
However, all the buyfag stuff doesn't work. What few shops imported those closed, and J-List is somewhat hard to get through customs.
You discuss how bad it is or how bad are those who think The Goku and Vegeta show is bad?
Love Hina had always been controversial in Sweden due to it originally being published in a seinen magazine called Manga Mania (it also ran series like GTO, Chobits, Negima, School Rumble, Air Gear, Blade of the Immortal, etc.) that loved using Love Hina fanservice pics for its covers, complete with captions like "HOLY MELONS!". It also had some censoring of Shinobu/Kaolla bath scenes with added foam to be on the safe side, but I'd imagine the publisher just took the opportunity to wash its hands of the controversial series when the translator was taken to court, since it might have been among the pictures he got tried for.
It doesn't distinguish anything. Its only purpose is to create a false "other" for tryhard newfags to feel like they fit in, all the while using the very same memes and language those "normies" like so much. is right, more often than not the one saying "normie" is the true normie.
It was popular around girls here too
wear a Light Yagami shirt to school
girl from class comes up to me
" nice but just because you're wearing a Light Yagami shirt doesn't mean you're as cool as Light"
other girl overhears and butts in
"oh please Light is just a psychopath, L was the good guy"
girl a does a mocking impression of girl b
"oh look at me, I like the wierdo that probably gets a boner on spying and torturing people"
girl b does a mocking impression of girl a
"oh look at me I like a guy who wouldn't even hold my hand before killing me"
"oh shut up, besides user is the anime expert and he prefers Light, so Light wins"
Anno didn't put Islamic symbolism in Evangelion
I remember downloading a PDF with a number of the images that were involved and as far as I remember all of it was lewd fanart rather than anything straight from a manga.
A lot of it was terribly drawn though.
Here in Australia only high schoolers know about it because they teach Japanese at most high schools
besides user is the anime expert and he prefers Light, so Light wins
Things that never happened, but I'll give you benefit of the doubt because you got a laugh out of me
Thank you for your service
they teach Japanese at most high schools
God if only the UK was so lucky. This is compulsory or by choice?
a globally irrelevant language
compulsory or not
Yes, I wonder.
implying I know Australia's educational curriculum
It actually happened
My sister has that shirt now since it doesn't fit me anymore
It was the first year of high school and the bickering lasted for like 3 days at least
I don't feel like writing it because we've all heard these arguments a million times
Anyway girl A just meant that since I was the guy who knew a lot about anime, I was obviously right and so was she because she was "on my side"
Only compulsory for the first year (year 7) then after year 8 it becomes optional.
I don't think they have a very solid one probably just like
"Okay what language should I teach these fuckers... Japanese it is."
Some High Schools teach french over here as well
ciota i chuj
and pedalstwo sometimes
They hate denmark
I second this.
Also: if you hang out in a group of meme sprouting weebs\attending conventions\listening to animu music in your car - nobody gives a fuck.
But dare you talk about Sup Forums related topics irl\publicly - chances are you'll be branded as a low-life degenerate pedophile.
ciota i chuj
Hello, are you from the 90s?
Make sure Tusk gets on the plane.
If you watch anime, you must be an autist.
It's either hardcore anime fans or people who think its extremely weird because that's how the media portrays Japan here.
Not many fans though, the girls who like it and cosplay and all that shit are mostly really hot and the guys are mostly the ugliest, nerdiest greasiest things.
it's actually compulsory
There can't be that many anime fans in a country of just over 8 million
Do you even have internet there?
Only certain games are accepted
In my country nobody gives a shit as long as you don't go full autist by watching moeshit like pic related in public.
Anime is a normie thing here.
Thank you for your support.
In Norway you're a first class weeb if you watch a Ghibli movie
Do you live in Singapore or Taiwan?
Fujos are taking control over there. The last convention I went was filled up with Free! shit.
Its still Niche as fuck
HMV has entire sections dedicated to anime
and not just bleach and hungfu samaurai, but shit like Nichijou
Outside of Black Lagoon/Jormungandr literally nothing. Vietnam, we're the ones getting a helping hand from Japan but we don't even get a cameo.
In my area, you're made fun of for being a "weeb" for simply watching anime. Even tho a weeb is someone who is obsessed with Japanese culture, by definition. If you're someone like me who just simply enjoys watching anime, you're regarded the same as someone who wears akatsuki cloaks to school and posts pictures on Instagram with their waifus.
America, forgot to add that.
everyone treat you like an outcast/outsider/weirdo when you say you like anime, unless you've watched dragon ball Z, saint seiya and naruto, then you're ok, also somehow everyone watched heidi, legend of galactic heroes and most old school anime without even remembering it was japanese
The backpedalinf butthurt is so real i feel bad for your parents
this, general Flip public is totally oblivious to Japanese culture
in shitpostralia everyone watched DB/DBZ/Pokemon/Digimon as a kid, then you have the usual entry level stuff watched by a few people.
we have a government run tv channel called SBS that played Evangelion occasionally, but it was only ever on at like 11pm
Gook here too. A lot of people here watch it secretly thou. Not to mention shinchan is still popular in korea to almost everyone despise being a japanese show
implying the military isn't all spergs and losers
"Weeb" is overused. Even other anime fans will call you one as soon as your knowledge surpasses theirs. It's a form of cognitive dissonance and dubfags use it all the time.
Is that how things go now?
Because all the anime girl cosplayers I recall seeing were fucking landwhales.
Unless you were refering to the ones doing LoL cosplays.
a robot helped end Martial Law
long ago, there's a couple of anime series on the early primetime slot
there are at least two anime channels on cable
Eva was aired in the afternoon long ago
almost all local TV stations have aired anime once in their lifetime
Yep, it's pretty great to be a Flip who likes anime.
The problem is that licensing is non-existent.
Based Voltes V
Though, honestly, it's not a British thing to say "problematic", or complain about "Right-wing Government". That's US.
Other than that, you're mostly accurate.
It's all about the Vietnam war...
