cool
I cry every time
>crystal king had to break up
>masayuki tanaka had to lose his angelic voice because of a fucking baseball
I was gonna post this one.
It's a strong contender.
DO YOU REMEMBER
...
Some nice Kanada style animation there.

The 80s Nisekoi
Is this the most 80s ED ever?
The guy who I'm guessing is the dad has a pretty rad porn 'stache.

Music don't get more 80s than this.
>synthesizers
>guitar solos
>and most importantly, gated reverb on drums
Geist's OST is so fucking good

Why is Ryo so hot?
The very first opening was full 80s

Layzner had a pretty great ost.

Damn I really liked Geist way more than I should've. Guess it's right what they say; It's so bad it's good.
But what about Megazone 23?
youtube.com
Also since no one posted Dancouga yet;

The first Geist OVA is legitimately great
The second one goes full retard but at least it's still pretty
Dancouga was posted earlier youtube.com
All I ever see is that people shit over it and might say "It's so bad it's good"
But you're right, the 1st OVA wasn't that bad I guess.
My bad
not exactly an op but nothing can top the opening scene from bubblegum crisis
CROSS
FIGHT
DANGAIIIIIIIOOOOOOOOOOOOH
youtube.com
Oh fuck me, wrong link
youtube.com
>no Battle Hackers
Come on, nobody remember the show except for that fucking opening: youtube.com
Ah this might be something I'll get into.
I find some of the 80s TV anime have really aged badly, so it becomes a drag to get through all 52 episodes (for example)
youtube.com
Dangaioh has the opposite problem of never actually being finished, it ends on a massive cliffhanger with nothing actually resolved.
Oh man that's fucked.
As far as my knowledge goes a lot of these 80s OVAs have this problem, right?
So I just checked and it's an original work so no manga what soever?
This video is the essence of late 80's: youtube.com

I don't think much can top this.
Guess again.

>As far as my knowledge goes a lot of these 80s OVAs have this problem, right?
Not really. Dangaioh was a unique case, they got the budget for more episodes but decided to blow it all on three instead and pray it did good enough to keep going. Obviously it didn't. Those three episodes are pretty solid though, and really fucking pretty.
They drew it in black and white and used color film. Which is not only more expensive than just filming in black in white, it's also way fucking harder to straight up draw in black and white. Especially when the main robot is almost all black. And in space.
It was just Anno being an artsy fuck and wanting to show off.
>80s TV anime have really aged badly
Yeah, it's a shame a lot of nostalgiafags who go on about "muh shading" and "muh animation" seem to forget a lot of that was reserved for high budget ovas.
Since we are in the topic of 80's, do you guys know Satellite Young? Jp synthwave revival, they also do some sick amvs

youtube.com
So... Talking budget...
Why was it that the last episode of Gunbuster was in black and white until the very very end?
Anno claim it was becouse of artistic reasons, knowing Anno it could be both for art or budget problems
All the still panning shots in the last fight with the space monsters were probably legitimately time/money problems, but the whole episode being black and white was just Gainax jerking themselves off.
Yeah that's what I've mainly watched but then again not all of those OVAs were great as well.
Like come on, look at Violence Jack just for an example.
I was busy reading the manga (which is hard to even find completely translated) and here I am thinking to myself "Why have they even tried making an adaption to such a manga?"
I see what they were going for, but still you are introduced to this big as villain of villains Slum King and by the end of the 3rd OVA there's not even a confrontation between Jack and the Slum King
Fags that go on about that for ages haven't even watched shit in the first place.
There's still plenty of good shows.
Tanaka still actually has a good voice, not even near to his old levels but still he can sing
That or Kamikaze

Top this.
How did I know it was going to be Galvion
Swank Powered Tracer Layzner
Hard to belive the manga was written by Naoki Urasawa
Such comfy op

Needs more Condition Green. Anime theme songs in the 80's were just so much more memorable and catchy to me. Nowadays all the "best openings" are usually just some forgettable thing with some shrieky singers that might as well be indistinguishable from one another.
This thread needs more DEBIRUMAN
>Not posting the versions drawn by /m/en

youtube.com
Also, it was released on BD recently and looks much better than the old LD rips.
Because Galvion IS the most 80s OP
-Sick beats
-Synthesizers
-Cool 80s dudes
-Hot 80s babes
-Mecha
-Mecha that transform into lights
-A snazzy singing voice with lots of random Engrish in it.
-Animation quality that is probably a lot better than the actual show
-Sound effects in the OP
Arguably, only thing it was missing was a mysterious bad guy covered in shadow
>-Mecha that transform into lights
*That was supposed to say cars
Oh, the BDs are out already? I thought they only just got announced
So how about Dancougar Blazing Epilogue?
Has it ever been subbed?
Last thing I know is that msubs has done the first episode.
I'm downloading now though it's some stupid italian/jap dual audio release where the italian dub is ripped from an old VHS.
nyaa.se
Well if it's got jap audio that's good enough for me. How'd Episode 3 end up looking? They mentioned they lost the original film for it.
Never been subbed
It's alright but it's not as good as God Bless
I'm planning on using this release for the subs, should work. I have no idea what is up with episode 3 since I have not even seen it before. But from what I can see now is that the episode 3 does look more blurry(?) compared to episode 1.
I like this one. The video is in rhythm with the music, making the music feel actually relevant beyond the lyrics. I need to see more OPs that are well choreographed to the music.
Yeah, I've already got those downloaded. It's a shame about Episode 3, since the last fight with Gil Berg looked fucking great even on the BDs. Ah well, BD rips of an upscale are still better than shitty LD rips.
Whoops, I meant
>looked fucking great even on the LDs
Too many D's in one post
That seems to be the only version available.
>How'd Episode 3 end up looking?
Pretty bad. Picture related.
Ouch. It's always my favorite episodes that get screwed over by the film getting lost.
LD as in laserdisc?
Damn this is on laserdisc?!
Now things are getting interesting.
It's an old OVA, of course it is. At least it's not VHS rips.
So a lot of anime was put on LD? Or mostly OVA only?
LDs never caught on outside of Japan but they were big for a while there. A lot of shows in the 80s got LD/VHS releases, until DVDs came around.
Oh well, at least it wasn't completely lost. I don't even want to think about all the old anime that will never get an actual film transfer.
Since we're on this subject I've been trying to identify what song this MIDI is based on, because it comes from various anime MIDI sites, and it sounds pretty 80s.
andrelouis.com
Anyone have an idea?
Oh man this sounds so familiar but I can't think of any names really
Searches seem to point to "Shin Getter Robo" but I haven't found a tune from that yet.
Why hasnt there been a Hokuto No Ken BR release yet?
Also should I watch the 2 original TV series or read the manga?
The British dub of Oedo 808 had some great tracks, I know British clubs and techno playlists used to include a certain song from some anime soundtrack for aaages.
Which one?
I can't remember, it was mentioned in another thread recently, some old British dub of a really old OVA.
