It might get a season 2 since many shows are planned with split seasons even though they only announce one at a time, but there's no way it's doing good enough to continue getting adapted on its own merits. Two reasons: 1) these are long running series. 2) the pacing of current sereis is different from the series made in the past decade. Hero Academia is a dynamic manga, when you make a slow adaptation, this dynamic disappears and, consequently, no one cares about the story.

I think the whole superhero stuff appeals more to Western audiences... The manga was hyped to no end by Redditers, Youtube reviewers... I checked it out and I ended up dropping it. I'm watching now the anime and, while I enjoy it, I don't really get what's supposed to be so great about it. Even manga readers say that it's not innovative.

The pacing is just too slow. If the show was something that was going to be long running you could almost bare it but the problem is that its not. its only going to be like 12 or 13 episodes. the first five episodes were pretty much a training montage for the MC to get into the hero school. the last couple have been him just going to class and characters subtly being introduced. the problem is that by the time shit really gets started and interesting in the series its going to be the last episode.

So its pretty much as obvious for "buy the source material if you liked it" as it gets.

I'm really baffled if you really think that's what it all takes to make a good adaptation of a manga. I'm well aware that this isn't the best example but there's a really good reason why the 1999 adaptation of Hunter x Hunter was more successful than the 2011 version or why the 2003 version of Fullmetal Alchemist is loved more than Brotherhood.

Is there anything wrong with the pace other than the number of episodes? I agree that the more recent episodes are somewhat slow but I thought the first arc was basically perfect.

Their sports manga usually do well once they get an anime adaption, Kuroko and Haikyuu both had successful anime. Gintama is also the odd one out where people enjoy their anime more than the manga.

But yeah it's not even shocking that a WSJ manga have mediocre adaption, hell they only do it just bring in new audience for the manga anyway.

Huh? The first thing I thought when I started watching BnHA was that it looked a lot like Naruto, low quality overall but high now and again. The only difference is that it has a much smaller episode count.

The manga is really fast pace for shonen battle manga, so when the anime decided to take the slow pace it threw many people off especially since one of the popular reason why they like BnHA is because it fast pace unlike Naruto or Bleach.

The slower pace also make the melodramatic moments dwell more which may be a good thing or bad thing depending on your taste. You rarely heard people bitch about Deku crying since it only lasted for a few panels but in the anime along with the VA and sad music it made people way more aware of the sadder moments in the series since they dwell on it for so long.

I hope it doesn't become the next Toriko.
