DESCRIBE A FRANCHISE ENTRY BY ENTRY, OTHER ANONS GUESS IT

>inconsistent amalgamation of the author's fetishes and favorite topics
>vidya gaem!
>if we remove the humor, the fun, the characterization, the world-building and make it look artsy we can probably get a nice psychological thriller out of this
>unfinished leftovers from the first entry
>clumsy, over-the-top pastiche of the former entries
>half-assed attempt to replicate the third entry by making it less subtle and more generic
>THE BLANDENING
>THE BLANDENING 2: ELECTRIC MARYSUE
>pointless cash-in
>pointless cash-in "update" of the third entry
>misguided attempt to take the franchise back to its early installments by making the protagonist ugly and creepier than it ever was, to focus on the story and world-building instead
>pointless cash-in
>ultra-vague crossover with very superficial ties to the original material
>pointless ugly live-action cash-in

now guess

GitS.

You win!

Now it's your turn.

>A cult classic, widely regarded for its soundtrack and use of music. Popular in the west.
>Over a decade later it receives a sequel because of that
This should be easy.

The reboot some how made some of the most interesting characters in fiction uninteresting

2hu

I'm gonna say Vampire Hunter D to keep the thread afloat but I doubt it's that.
That's Evangelion.

No, Kancolle.

TRIgun?

No, it's no D. I should have specified that the sequel isn't out yet.

Do people like the soundtrack of the original D?

No, but I guess that does technically fit.

Hey, Baccano would too if it ever has another season.

Macross?

It's shit. Every single entry was shit. The entire franchise is shit.

Gunbuster?

Yes.

berserk?

Nope, I was thinking of doing that though. I would have used the phrase "spiritual sequel" if that was the case, even though it counts as a regular one too.

flcl

Still no, but you're closer with the music.

I'll give you a hint: the music is from an actual band.

>unfinished due to copyright struggles but still a hit
>obscure little manga just for fan-service
>small budget fan-service crossover feature
>semi-official addition with a smaller budget
>DARKER, GRITTIER spin-off
>spin-off of the spin-off
>AMERICAN addition to the original entry
>Reboot, less successful than the original
>DARK AND GRITTY AND ARTSY spin-off nobody remembers

Yap.

Oh, Bubblegum Crisis of course.

now THAT'S Evangelion

easy one
>popular manga
>popular adaptation
>EXTREMELY popular sequel
>a sidestory
>a rehash of sequel
>a garbage
>bunch of movies in between.

of course

>My fucking backup can't be this cute!

Berserk

HxH?

>berserk
>sequel

Here's another one:

>The manga has never been fully translated into English
>An adaptation that doesn't cover the entire story, teases plot hooks and has all around fun action
>Years later, a reboot that removes the floof and adds a second season

no

Dragonball?

dragonball right?

I don't think it had a manga but I'm gonna say Burn up!

oh and by the way I forgot
>HOMOGAY spin-off of the spin-off

beat me by 3 seconds slut.

ofc

>anthology movie
>manga adaptation of the best segment
>serialization of the best segment

Nope, it's not Burn Up! It does have a female main character though.

GitS

No, the adaptations retain the humor.

Here's a tough one:
>A cult classic, widely regarded for its soundtrack and use of music. Popular in the west.
>Over a decade later it receives a sequel because of that

It's MD Geist.

YOU DIDN'T MENTION THE MANGA
There's an MD Geist manga too

Wasn't it an American comic?

nope

Well, if we're talking about the same thing, it was written and drawn by an American and released by an American company.

I might be remembering wrong, but I'm pretty sure it was written by a jap

>very amateurish but ambitious sci-fantasy epic
>very remote adaptation that only keeps two characters and nothing else
>spin-off crossover adaptation of the adaptation, without floof

According to Wikipedia, if I'm reading this right, there's the American comic, which is an adaptation of the first OVA, and then there's a prequel called Ground Zero. That might be what you're thinking of.

Yeah this is it. I didn't know about the comic.

I'd only really heard of Ground Zero too.

Anyway, is still up for grabs.

Hint: Space police, idols and hand to hand combat.

Nigga, you talking Birdy?

You know it.

Not sure what to think of Decode after watching both seasons. Manage to do a lot of cool shit, but did bunch of shit wrong too.

The original OVA was some of the tightest shit, though. Love the chemistry of it that didn't seem apparent in Decode. Does the manga for what's translated seem to fair better? I heard it's what the original creator really wanted it to be.

I haven't read the manga, but I definitely will if it's ever fully translated.

I could swear I had more webms from it saved.
