They put nearly all their budget into the shows development and not into marketing. That's literally it. The show put everything into the quality of the product. But that's also why it didn't get more episodes, since few people knew about it.

Also, the only bad episode of the show was episode 2. Putting such a bad episode right at the beginning turned a lot of people off.

As for why I personally feel its so good is because it had pretty much every type of joke possible. Not just misunderstandings as people love to claim but also intelligent, physical, delayed, running gag, adult and childish humor. It did it all. It also did what few comedy shows are capable of doing. Having actual character development and progression. Case in point, Mitsuba started off as a classic tsun bitch that was meant to be hated by the audience. But as the show went on, you saw far more to her personality and felt sympathy for her when she was the butt of the joke (which was 90% of the time).
