What were geishas anyway? Fancy prostitutes?

Pretty much.

Same reason there's no enjo kosai anime.

Is there a kabuki anime?

Yes.

Oh. Thanks.

closest you'll get is that girl from Mononoke.

I want ignorant 12 years old to leave.

Nah. Glorified tea ladies. The prostitution meme was just because of the impression that westerners got when they saw them. White piggu can't comprehend why people would keep women around for decoration when you aren't fucking them

They entertained rich old men for money, except it was noble. So pretty much.

>saw Memoirs of a Geisha

I for one am glad there is no geisha anime, despite the potential for amazing art

See any Idol anime.

OP mistakes geisha for oiran.

No. Fancy prostitutes were OIRAN, not Geisha.
But retarded Americans couldn't tell the difference and called them all Geisha.

And retarded Americans today continue that fucking tradition by listening to their retarded Grandpas and their retarded stories.

>can't comprehend why people would keep women around for decoration when you aren't fucking them
Wait. Why would you keep woman around if you are not fucking her?

For the moe.

>But retarded Americans couldn't tell the difference and called them all Geisha.
Then enlighten us, /jp/.

Go back in time and ask the pre-fission bomb japs

Well, there's this
youtube.com/watch?v=k6-9LdItRq8

Why would you keep some slut around if you weren't fucking her? Two nukes were not enough.

Yamato nadeshiko aren't as desired as they were in the past, as far as 2D waifus go.

Doesn't matter
Their pussies are all slanted anyways

Gintama had some

You are right. I genuinely do not understand this. Why not fuck geisha? Why keep attractive women around if no dicku in vaginu?

Geisha are by their nature secondary characters. Being secondary is their job.

Art. Nips are weird about art. Remember, this is the country that invented tentacle porn and who's nobility was so busy writing poetry and drawing they got overthrown.

God bless 'em.

...

Now that I think about it, they were probably just keeping them around to prep them for the American bulls.

They're one of those things you don't talk about, like the Emperor

What a shame.

Sumo wrestlers also seem to be rare considering their importance in jap culture.

Two fat guys fighting isn't moe.

...

Even in the old time anime. I only really remember kenshin mentioning them

We had Rakugo.

>Why aren't there anime about ______? I expect anime about everything!
These threads are fucking cancer.

There was an Anime that aired a few seasons ago which adapted an old Sumo Anime, and no one watched it.

Maybe the Japs are in some kind of Occidentalizing phase

Why no Pearl Harbor anime?

Japs too scared of third nuke?

Even their propaganda goes out of its way to avoid talking about Americans, despite the majority of the battles being against them.

That said, it couldn't be any worse than the movie.

There probably is an ova somewhere. Inital D had some, does that count?
One character in House of Five leaves is the closest I have seen.

No. That would be the oiran.

>Memoirs of a Geisha
>not calling it Memoirs of a Weaboo
I dare you fuckers to prove any of that shit was anything more than a neckbeard's wetdream.

>pol

> Even their propaganda goes out of its way to avoid talking about Americans,
Well. America funds most of their military protection.

I see it more as differing values. Pearl Harbor did the same thing, using the term "jap-suckers" as opposed to nip, chink, yellow devil, and the like. It was criticized for not being harsh enough, which didn't go well with all the other inaccuracies the movie had. You know very well that Americans back in the 1940s had far worse things to say about Japan, but the movie didn't want to show the Japanese in too negative of a light.

This is basically because the Imperial Army until 1944 always saw the Chinese nationalists, Chinese communists and Soviets as their main enemy. They only accepted reality that the West was the main threat reluctantly. So if you asked a Japanese everyman about the war, they'd talk wayy more about China then about the war with the Western powers.

That and they got creamed by the west in the end. So its easier to talk about a foe you beat.

What I mean, at least from what I've heard, is that the movies that do deal with American battles just talk about "the enemy", or other vague terms. God forbid you imply that America and Japan weren't as buddy buddy as they are now.

That's kind of true. Japan didn't really have some vague term they described 'the enemy' as. If anything, those were communists. Although I do agree that they really wouldn't have been anything but loathing of the Americans, this is the same as they were basically to every nationality at the time. They didn't particularly hate the Americans more then say the Dutch in Indonesia.

Geisha were not prostitutes!

They were professional entertainers. They played music, recited poetry and made pleasant conversation. Geisha were women who knew how to make a man feel at east and have fun. They were used as a social commonpoint where business partners, friends and new acquaintances could hang out.

It's basically like going to a restaurant or bar and having paid entertainers to help everyone have fun. There were plenty of brothels if you wanted a fuckdoll, but Geisha were not prostitutes!

The propaganda seems to focus more on the military being good than the enemy being evil, really. There's not too many major enemies they can talk about that aren't the United States during WWII that wouldn't be met with more animosity in modern times, so they have to make the enemy in question seem as generic as possible. Isn't that what GATE's about or something?

>feel at east
is this a geographic joke?

Yeah Gate does some weird things. It has battles in which hundreds of thousands are reported dead, but then the MC tears up over a village and gets really protective of it.

Japanese attitudes to war in general are just fucked desu

They had had soldiers trained to 9/11 people 60 years before 9/11

I guess that's what happens when you and your main enemies happen to partners with America.

Pearl Harbor's just out of the question, it's too specific of a location, and America's too touchy about it.

Honestly, I don't see why a military base getting attacked is somehow more monumental than practically everything regarding Japan and China in textbooks

I think Americans get touchy about it because that's when they were dragged into the war. Japan, Germany, Britain, the U.S.S.R, France, China etc had been at war for years at this point. So to non-Americans it seems weird that they are so upset about a single military base getting torched, but its more emotional for them.

It seems like europe on things
but I ain't china make you laugh

Yeah. Still, I'd like more acknowledgement about aspects like Stalingrad and how America had already been supporting the Allies in not-so-subtle ways in textbooks.

I guess Japan and American don't want to talk about WWII in general.

>American don't want to talk about WWII in general.
Americans fucking LOVE that shit, its essentially there rise to power story.

Everyone else lost bitterly, they are the only people who gained from it

American's largely don't give a shit about Pearl Harbor anymore. The only time people bring up PH is to shit on Japan.

Remember when social media was going to bring us all together?

Scratch that, they don't want to talk about the parts they weren't part of. They just talk a whole lot about Nazis since Germany hates Nazis too, so it's okay for them to show, despite their battles mostly being against Japan in the Pacific.

We felt betrayed. From what i was taught at school, we had a diplomat from japan in the U.S, and we were about to sign a deal for peace or at least further negotiation. Diplomat had no idea about attack so was negotiating like he really wanted the deal. For us it felt like the attack was so out of left field which is why it really pissed us off.

It brought the young folk together, but it drove the old white people away.

Which is weird, since most of the old white people lived during the Cold War, when Unit 731 was pardoned for the sake of the mysterious results it provided. You sure as hell don't see that in the cinemas.

>Cute girls doing cute geisha things

Hence why they can't make an anime of Pearl Harbor, Americans will suddenly remember it and get really mad until it's gone.

>cute
>geisha

Gross. Geisha have to be elegant and beautiful.

Shame they killed more nationalists than commies. China would be great if the other side won. But thats WW2 as a whole.

America will probably be seen as the worlds worst superpower.
>Rise to become superpower while eveywhere else is in ruins
>global media lets you push whatever propaganda you want
>use your platform to push self loathing, hedonism and anti American views, to the point where schoolchildren are told how the constitution isnt good because it doesnt recognize diversity. Make people like Kim Kardashian the cultural icons.
Atleast other powers went down in war, but to kill yourself as the soul power, thats insanely retarded.

Mods please delete this off-topic thread
Don't you have a refugee camp to be burning?

Wonder what the Cold War would've been like without Mao. Maybe we could've avoided Vietnam and Afghanistan.

fuck off

they can be both you plebeian

But all that make up on a cute girl looks silly, like she's trying to be like her mommy or something.

This desu. Not sure where everyone else in the thread is getting their information (probably their ass).

Sometimes less is more.

Men, typically. Similar to british playwriters of the same time period, women couldn't be trusted to not hog all the attention and do as they were told, so men were hired to be women in their place.

How was that a weaaboo movie? There were no western self inserts.

There's a trap manga plot for this, I bet.

Fuck off.

Rec thread?

...

Here in Europe we learn not to trust Americans but unfortunately mass culture is heavily influenced by them.

Not that I really dislike America, I just wish people could think with their head.

>geisha weren't primarily prostitutes
>no one ever has sex in the champagne room
Wew lad

Yeah

I'm loving how these fuckwits are insinuating the hiroshima, nagasaki, the imposed terms and military presence, the post-war depression, and every earthquake and tsunami since... are karmic retailation for 2.5k American _soldiers_ dying? Good thing the nips have such crap english.

>when Unit 731 was pardoned for the sake of the mysterious results it provided

>inb4 Sup Forums please go

Unit 731 getting pardoned and largely forgotten really redpilled me on how Jewed our government funded public school system is. We spent years hearing the same shit about the holocaust and not once did I hear a word of Unit 731. Any nigger on the street corner can tell you about the "hollah-cost".

Maybe because six milions is quite a big number?

Still, I agree with you and school is probably the reason why most people have such a shallow eye on events

>six milions

What I recall years ago hearing from my mother, who I'm assuming inherited her opinion from her parents, was vehemence at the sneakiness of the attack.

Pretty much, I honestly can't recall people bringing it up that much.

That is probably because Hitler and the Nazis are a more wide ranging topic.

Something along these lines. The Holocaust was undeniably the largest groupable calamity of WWII, but it's irritating how the media emphasizes eg. the Blitz while staying quiet on eg. the Allies' own strategically dubious bombing raids.

>redpilled
Yes, Sup Forums, fuck off.

Before this thread devolves into Sup Forums, I'll point out that historical geisha were generally prostitutes. By the height of the geisha cult in the second half of the 19th century, oiran was a disused term, and the geisha/oiran dichotomy was purely euphemistic. Geisha were valued for their virginity the same way Aya Hirano was. When GIs in Korea came to Japan, they slept with women calling themselves geisha.
In modern Japan, "geisha" are niche entertainers based on a flawed sense of historical pride. They're an oddity, something you hire because karaoke got old.
I actually recommend any weebs who visit Japan hire a geisha, because they embody exactly the kind of revisionist puritanical nonsense that you project onto kawaii nippon.

>six milions
See, the thing here is that the number of people who died in the camps is closer to eleven million. Those other millions are often overlooked because they weren't Jews.

>The Holocaust was undeniably the largest groupable calamity of WWII

Stalin was reported to have killed 10s of millions but we never hear about that do we?

People bring up Stalin's brutality all the fucking time. Unless you just mean that it doesn't get a yearly Oscar-nominated movie or something, but that's different.

Actually that took up a large section of my high school history syllabus (western eurofag here) and it is entirely unconnected with the war, it's more a chapter in the founding of the Stalinist regime. Stick to the comparable examples, such as Unit 731.

>Geisha were valued for their virginity the same way Aya Hirano was.
I'm actually not sure what this means. Hirano's value plummeted immediately once her slutdom became known.

That's not a WWII war crime

We don't? I feel like it gets brought up every time his name is mentioned.

That's great, I didn't get to hear anything like that until I started taking university classes.

In US public schools American History consists of muh slavery and civil rights, while world history consists of muh 6 gorillion, remember hitler was a bad goy!
