Religion is a sham, but if it's the end of the world then perhaps it will grant people some small comfort. In that case, it served its purpose. I believe in a God, gods or god-like group of people that guide history and ensure divine providence. I just believe that the way things actually work are kept hidden from us because the masses can't handle the truth, and (((their))) control depends in some part on our faith and belief.
I honestly believe our eventual end will be the same one that Mars was met with: a massive, comet-like planet will emerge from within an exceptionally large sunspot. It will appear as a star, it will be so bright. Our scientists will scramble for explanations, because this will defy every mainstream belief for how the Sun works. And it will draw closer, and when the plasma sheath between this newborn planet and ours interact, an electric discharge will wipe the surface of our planet clean. There will be tornadoes of fire and arcs of lightning falling from the sky and traveling parallel to the surface of our planet, creating dunes of glass like we see on Mars. It will be a swift end, the one we deserve. An economic collapse or WW3 before our planet's end would be an unnecessary level of suffering before the planet's end. I would hope that (((they))) would have timed history and political events to coincide with the end of the world a little better.
